The FFED3D Thread

Actually forget that. It was ok except in combat when it took ages to turn the ship. Nice and accurate once you got there, though :)

Guess it's a case of experimenting with values until you find a setup you like.

Search FFE3D Pack with all ships

Can someone tell me where I can download the most comprehensive FFE3D pack with all ships and stations?

Thanks Daniel

FFE3D Mouse double click

Hi all

I’ve been using the GLFFE version of FFE for a short while and have loved being able to replay this wonderful game, today I thought I’d try out the new 3d version to see what it’s like

Well the install went in fine and the game ran like a dream, however I’ve noticed an annoying little bug, when I’m in a station and I single mouse click on any option it seems to double click.

So for example if I click on new ships in the shipyard it double clicks and I instantly buy a new ship, which is a little bit of a problem.

I’ve had a hunt around and done the other mouse fix of disabling visual themes in FFE 3D properties and I’ve also played around with mtimer and sensitivity settings in ffewin.cfg but that didn’t make any difference. I’ve also reduced my mouse’s click speed in windows control panel and as a last resort I tried a new mouse to see if that was an issue again with no success

So i wondered if anyone here has had the same problem and if they had a fix

My setup is; pc running vista, I can’t find any version of FFE3D so can’t give that I’m afraid however the exe is dated 16/11/2008 (which seems to be very old)

Cheers

Mike

Hi Tauboy,

Welcome to the forum ;)

With FFE3D being a "3rd Party udated version" it does have a few bugs your mouse problem probably being one of them, I'd just enjoy the great graphics the guys have done, I know I do :)

oh don't get me wrong I'm loving the whole look and feel of the game, I was just checking if the mouse problem was one that had cropped up before and had a fix, if it doesn't then it's not a problem.

now to return to my evening trying to get enough cash together to get a nice ship

hi all

just to let you know I tracked down the problem and it was down to the DATA directory I copied in from my cd rom of the game

once I deleted that directory the double click problem was gone

strange but true

They look fantastic! I'm beginning to wish I'd learned to build computer models :(
Btw, did you notice that the Harris fighter is a lot like an x wing?
What program do you use to remodel ships?

Nice new Falcon model available in FFE D3D

This is the beta version, but it's pretty good anyway.

Download the file from here (20.zip) and copy the extracted folder to your MODELS folder

Oh Steve? Where do I get that dashboard?

check the elite-games download pages
coolhands panel is in the default "mods" folder ("old" download page).

"old" download page, 26/03/2010

- FFE D3D.zip, main installation including .exe and setup folders.

- MODS.zip, MODS folder for GME (games mod enabler).

- Models & Textures.zip, default set of models and textures.

- Music.zip
, FFE's music as mp3 for FFED3D (default).

- Original Soundtrack.zip, FFE's original score as midi files.

- Starter / Launcher, not really needed startup progs. which allow to set a screen res. and similar things.

- JSGME, games mod enabler, get current version here,

- BUFFET 2.1, THE trainer/cheat program for JJFFE,GLFFE & FFED3D.

"new" download page, 19/02/2011

- various new models and textures to place in MODS.

elite-games.ru forum "for english speaking users"

browse the forum, you might find some that isn't available on the download pages.

NOTE:

if you have problems showing the panel icons, try to use a different screen resolution.

1680x1050 - fullscreen - aspectfix off, should work if you got a wide screen (letterbox) with a supportet res. of 1680x1050. use for fullscreen only modes that are supported by your monitor. use aspectfix if you have a 4:3 monitor.

1280x1024 - windowed - aspectfix on, should work for a window (i experienced lower then 1024 vertical isn't possible, but that might change with the GFX card and is only valuable for TFT or LED screens, tubes should handle any resolution. the width of a windowed screen doesn't seem to matter, you can exceed to whatever your screen has as width. you can turn aspectfix off in windowed mode to, but you won't have a fitting aspect maybe. 1650x1024 - aspectfix off works fine, original 320x200 (down to 1024x1024 aspectfix on or off).

open "ffewin.cfg" with notepad and you will find the relevant entries (jjffe.cfg has no influence on FFED3D).

i will slowly setup a complete FFED3D, but it takes a little time i have to check some issues first while i'm installing it, might be i come off with some fixes.

first fix is to "soft" remove the overlayed textures of the planets because i don't like them to much. because it looks like a map from far, but as soon as you're close it changes to the fractal surface of the planet. i don't like that and i prefere the original fractal terrain.

sadly they messed up the atmospheres in FFED3D, so i can't bring the gas giants and other thick covered planets back to original look. as it is, all atmosphere covered planets lost their atmosphere layer, except for earthlike planets.

really i have no idea why this has be done? only to show a "pretty" texture on the planet, but i can't dive into a gas giants artmosphere no more and that's a big loss!

btw, jupiter didn't looks bad in the original color/texture, so why change at all?

also i have been trying to get the Argents Quest back in the intro (missing in one scene), but that won't work, it looks like the model for this scene is scaled and the "solid" DX models arn't scalable in this way, so in fact the model is there, but so tiny that you can't see. if i use the full scale factor (255) it's still as tiny as a mosquito.

in the beginning i thought a special model must be missing, but it's the same model that's been used for the whole intro (440, in fact if i use the key on the requested model it results in 440 1/2, how is such possible? anyway it's the only time model 440 is called that way, any other work.
no, if i use "440" it neither works, i tried back and fore.

really interesting...
i will give that a try immidiatly.

yes it works!

it's even enought to disable them in the options screen!

why do i never tried? i knew it wasn't allways that way.
i can't tell you how i hated that double click issue!

one method was to click on the very lower right corner of the button...

modeling for FFED3D

modeling for FFED3D, and other games

this will be a general thread about modeling for games, since a lot is reproducable for other games and handling of the software is anyway the same.

i will describe here mainly the use of BLENDER 2.49, if you use a different version, don't worry i guess most is the same.

if you're smart enough you can port the advices also to any other CAD software.

certain things, which are the basics of modeling and use of models in games won't change anyway

what we need

software that is neede for a sleek modeler

Blender 2.49 or newer release
it could be any other 3d modeling program, but this works best for me and costs nothing, except some time to download and to set the program up to your wishes.
ther exists a complete setup version of Blender2.49. it's called 2.49Kai (links to LetItBit, because i havn't found the build no more on the web) it's build and setup so you can immidiatly start with blender (after installation of Python, but read the DOC files that comes with blender) wich i recommend.
since i didn't find that build in the web i uploadet it to LetItBit, i hope you don't mind, of course you can download a newer build. but first i don't like to change because i'm relatively common with 2.49, second i guess it's no big difference to newer builds and for "simple" models used in games it's enough anyway.

for the related DirectX import-export plugins,
i will link them up here,

1st, you don't have to search
2nd, i changed the export script a bit so it's more failsafe to export for FFED3D.

import and a export script for DirectX meshes (.x)

imports only mesh data, no animations.
export animations is ok, the export script is altered to be more compliant to the X names conventions, also it opens with the most used settings for FFED3D.

import and export of Wavefront models (.obj) (same file as above)

both are more or less the scripts that are included in the above recommended download. i only edited the export script to have the most used settings for i use for Pioneer, at hand.

other 3d modeling software:

- Wings3d, known for MS-Flightsim, but comes handy as a allrounder i guess. it's a simple quick to understand program.

- Rheingold 3D, 3DWin5,
Rheingold requires a small fee ~50€, 3DWin comes as shareware and is a fully useable solid filetype converter.

for the modeling nubes,

- Z-Modeler v1.07 is free to use and a very good program if you never handled a model before. you can't do much (at least enough to model some cars on it) with it, no animations and filetypes are limited to older racing games mostly. but the way it's build and it's pureness, makes it a good choice to do your first steps.

there are for shure more, but after all i found none as good as blender, even not 3dsMAX, i used it last year a bit longer as allowed, but i prefere blender.
why should i pay so much or risk a fine because of piracy?

of course a paint program must be at hand, but take one of your choice.
GIMP perhaps, i use Picture Publisher 8 it's rather old but reliable and free.

FFED3D specials

since we use direct X models for FFED3D a converter comes handy.
there are many that can convert several filetypes.

first we need a solid Direct-X viewer and converter that let's us convert between the text and binary filetypes of DX.
this will be MView, a older DirectX release and not longer included to the DX developers releases. there is a viwer implemented to the actual DX dev. release, but you can only view and check some shader settings.

i guess with this softs we can start
