The FFED3D Thread

So basically freddyhard's virus checker gave a false positive result. It might be worthwhile adding an advisory readme to the archive in the future.

And Steve? I think your are right, the version on the SSC is older than the one in Targ's links, although Darkone on the SSC has said he will update it soon.

A question for Targ, do you know if the new exe TechnoMag is working on is going to be very different to the existing one?

Geraldine - I have a mind that the new exe-file will be different from сurrent and without the "hook". :)

About description, what "this file is not a virus - it's /hook/" - anyone can write it correctly in English? I'll should tow it on Russian forum - let them to write it in the theme with files.. :)

Geraldine - not for that. :)

Styggron - i don't know what is it - ETA :p
But I think - with icons will be all right.
And if not, if (or when) the build will be released, it will be a reason to hope for a quick fix. :)

Sorry about that.

ETA means estimated time of arrival.
No problem. Thank you. =)

ETA - It is difficult to say.
How quickly will build the first version. Sooner or later. And then as it goes.
Maybe we'll see some news or pictures. We would hope that soon, but ...

ETA is pronounced as individual letters

E then T then A

So Eee-tee-ay

However long it takes the efforts of the programming team is greatly appreciated. I am just jealous of people that can play FFE D3D now without having the missing icons problems. :)

Thank you. :D I mean, I do not know Estimated Time of Arrival- that is, I do not know the approximate date when the wait the new build. :)

About icons, I know the only one way - to try all possible screen resolutions (or a combination from the left and right side of resolutions). :(
Or wait the new build. :)

I tried everything to fix the icons, have a look at the topic "missing icons despite all attempts". Nothing works at all. I have to wait for a new build.

I was hoping for a rough estimate, will it be 2012 ? 2013 ? something like that but I guess the simple answer is no one knows yet.

It might be because everything's upside down in Australia. I know this to be true, because I went to Sydney on holiday in 2005 and had trouble keeping my balance (nothing to do with the copious amounts of Toohey's I'd consumed).

Haha - finally something here worth commenting on :D :D

In related news - good to see that Frontier are keeping up the "we're still working on it" story... *sigh*...

I would rather them say "We are not currently working on Elite IV" than all this "we are working on it". Assuming they are NOT working on it because most of us don't believe them anymore unfortunately.

I mean not EVEN being able to say IF they have a team on there, have regular development meetings about it just does not go down well does it.

Secrecy? Sure not a problem with that. If they are working on it, I don't see the harm of saying there are Frontier resources currently working on this and *regular* meetings on development. And by resources I don't mean one person talking with David twice a year. Again it could be linked to the "surprise" factor I spoke about in another post, only issue is that "we're working on it" has been on the cards for years and years and years which is why so many just don't believe it.

If they are not actually working on it and trying to face face by saying "we can't say anything" to keep us hanging, well that is not really respectful to the fans really. :-( If this is the case I want to hear "We are not currently working on a sequel to Elite".

I eventually managed to get FFED3D working smoothly on my ancient PC and I do have to admit I am very impressed.

Before it kept on "stuttering" (graphically) and took forever to do anything, but in the last couple of days I've been messing about with settings almost randomly and got it to work smoothly.

This modification will likely be replacing my "old" copy of JJFFE, but I do miss the old-style cross-hairs.
