The FFED3D Thread

That might depend on what branch of the Russian military he is in Styggron. Now if it happened to be the Russian Space Agency.........:)

Actually no, they would need to send him back because the ELITE clause overrides ANY previous responsibilities bar family and medical. :)

I'm getting rather bad framerates, usually when near a planet, and I shouldn't do - any suggestions apart from turn the detail down? I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have to do that.

Hello can anyone give me info on the use of the jjffe.cfg ??? It looks like a file to map a controller and use it in FFE! Is there any way to use a joystick with more the 2 axis in FFE D3D??

To be honest I get frame-rate issues a lot as well if I use any resolution above 800x600 (as in 1 frame per 5 seconds - especially during the intro...), but the age of my PC setup is likely a factor there.

Sure... I have a laptop with an Intel i7... 30-40fps up to 1920x1200

Does anyone know what file format the custom ships are?
Steve O B Have, do you know?

I ask because I have a list of XSP files of ship models that could possibly be used / converted for FFED3D http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=274276 Admittedly they are for X3TC and not FFED3D

I have no idea of how feasible that would be, so don't bite my head off if it is simply not possible.

IIRC it's a plugin for 3d max called pandasoft http://www.andytather.co.uk/Panda/directxmax_downloads.aspx

**Fix for mouse bug in FFE D3D**

1. Right click on the FFE D3D exe file and select "Properties"
2. Click the compatibility tag
3. Check the "Disable visual themes" tick box
4. Click "Apply" then "OK"

You should then get the mouse working properly in the game without all the hassle of coming in and out of Aero mode.

Ah - nice one! I was alt-tabbing out before, that seemed to fix it, but it could also cause some graphical problems on return to the game. :)

I wonder if someone can help with my problem. How can I specify where to save my saves to? and why does it freeze up if I try to delete a save game?
my specs are as follows

HIS Radeon HD 6970 ICE-Q Turbo 2GB,
Akasa PowerMax 850W Power supply,
Asus P6T Motherboard LGA1 366 Intel X58 ATX RAID SA,
Intel Core i7-920 D0 Step Processor (8M Cache),
Corsair Vengeance 12GB (3X4BG Sticks) DDR3 Memory 1600MHz,

LG GH22NP20 22x DVDRW/ RAM,
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB Hard Disk Drive 72 (Two),
Windows 7 Premium 64bit Edition. updated to SP1

I don't have access to my computer right now but IIRC you can specify the savegame path in one of the cfg files. I've got a feeling the program may insist on the actual savegame folder being named "Commandr" but I may be wrong on that one.
As for the crash on deleting savegame files, I'm afraid that's just a Known Bug in FFED3D. Sadly, as the game's not being developed any more you'll just have to put up with it and delete the savegame files manually through Windows :)

Ok, back at my computer now, so I can confirm that the savegame path is specified in ffewin.cfg (the line will read something like CmmdrPath=E:\firstenc\COMMANDR).

Assuming you've got filename extensions on, the game will save your commander as name._xx where xx ranges from 00 to 99. After 99 it goes back to 00, and will overwrite any previous name._00 savegame in that directory without prompting

Not as bad as it sounds though; if you need to revert to a commander 100 saves ago you must be doing something wrong! :D

This image may help you
At the top you see the file path
If you click on "Parent dir" it will take you up a level in the file path
If you click on the folders, it will take you down a level in that folder.

If you are observant, you'll notice I've used normal FFE, but it also works for FFED3D
