The First Great Expedition is all about exploration - that's our passion and our main activity.
We are a group of like-minded pilots who share the joy of exploration for its own sake, and as a means to achieve Elite standing with the Pilots Federation. Our goal is to travel to every part of the galaxy that we can, to see everything that is to be seen, and to document our travels both as independent explorers and as a group. We also engage in many other activities individually or together - trading, bounty hunting, mining, etc. - either to finance our explorations, or to support our minor faction.
Organization:
The Expedition is co-ordinated by a Staff Group that sets broad agendas and objectives, but there is no hierarchy of "command". We have no office holders, ranks, or expectations. Participation in any group activity is always voluntary.
Play Mode:
Official Expedition activities are conducted in open play mode, as we want to experience the full range of dangers and challenges that the galaxy offers. Individual members and groups of members may prefer to play in solo or private group mode when not at official meetups, but the choice is theirs. Any member who undertakes the hazardous career of explorer may consider themselves a member of our Exploration Fleet.
Minor Faction:
We are affiliated with the minor faction the Institute of Galactic Research and Exploration and some members have chosen to devote much of their time to supporting the development of this faction through trading, mining and other non-exploration activities. These members make up our Logistics Fleet. For those members who favour combat related activities we have established a Security Fleet.
Diplomatic Relations:
The First Great Expedition is independent, unaligned and neutral. We seek to maintain friendly relations with other groups and factions and we will enter into agreements where these have clear benefits for explorers and maintaining the peace. If you have a group in-game and wish to establish a formal agreement you are welcome to contact us.
History and Activities:
The FGE formed during the game's Alpha Test phase, and we've held many formal and informal events in game since the beta phase including group voyages to nebulae in the vicinity of human inhabited space. We are currently engaged in a major expedition along the Sagittarius-Carina arm, and some of our members are undertaking the Distant Worlds Expedition.
Membership:
Our membership ranges from beginners just starting out on their adventures through to seasoned veterans who were part of the game's alpha test. We welcome players on any platform, and members of other groups may also join us.
Players who do not wish to take part in exploration or support the minor faction are also very welcome to join as observers and take part in the community of our forums and Facebook group, or just read the postings to keep up with what is happening.

We have a TS3 server and as our membership is world-wide there's usually a chance of meeting up with someone for a chat.
MEMBER NEWS: DISTANT WORLDS EXPEDITION
The FGE is a group supporter of the Distant Worlds Expedition. Members not participating in the Sagittarius-Carina Expedition (see below) may be interested in this audacious undertaking to reach Beagle Point via the centre of the galaxy.

MEMBER NEWS: SAGITTARIUS-CARINA MAJOR EXPEDITION
On Saturday 1st August 3301 the First Great Expedition launched a major exploration voyage.
Using the Lagoon Nebula as a starting point, the expedition began progressing along the full length of Sagittarius-Carina Arm to Beagle Point on the far side of the galaxy, a total distance of 100,000LYs.
At the time Horizons was introduced most participants had reached Eta Carina, but then chose to return to civilization to equip SRVs.
However the Expedition is still active and many members are now on their way back to Eta Carina to regroup for the next stages. The expedition is reported through posts on our website.

MEMBER NEWS: MINOR FACTION ONLINE
The First Great Expedition's minor faction (The Institute of Galactic Exploration and Research) has been in the game for some months now and is slowly expanding into surrounding systems, thanks to the activity of our Logistics Fleet members.
