The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Lave Revolution is official canon recognized by Frontier. It holds just as much weight as Drew Wagar's Reclamation. Several Elite Dangerous novels were penned prior to the release of the game. I think that there is a good chance that hints about the Rift or other non-rift related easter eggs are likely scattered throughout all of the books.

Canon or not, 'if' that author is claiming that the rift is between Reorte and Riedquat then he is directly contradicting the author who invented the rift in the first place. Therefore it would be nonsense.

Tinfoil time.

An interesting character in Greek mythology is Deino. Deino means 'Dread' or 'the dreadful anticipation of horror'.
Deino was one of three sisters called the Graeae, meaning 'old women", "grey ones", or "grey witches'.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graeae
http://www.pantheon.org/articles/d/deino.html

Perseus (Greek hero with his own galactic arm) tricked/forced the Graeae to reveal the information he needed to kill Medusa (a Gorgon, sister of the Graeae).

Medusa was of course a nasty moster, although she had her reasons to be angry. The Medusa myth is said to originate from Berber religion.

If yo find Medusa in the Rift, you will need: A shield (reflective), a sword, wings, an invincibility helm and a sack (to carry the head). Good hunting.:D
This tinfoil theory caught my attention...

I'm not in front of the PC now, but I think to remember having passed by a sector named Graeae beyond the rift right along the RR line. Could someone in-game check?

Might be an interesting connection...

Just a little Announcement :)

Erimus has been communicating with the folks over at DW Discord and they have been working on a Formidine Rift Communication Hub for all of us Rifters to use. This will make it easier for us to discuss and co-ordinate a large scale search :D

Possibly could be up and going by the end of the week, Erimus will provide a link once he has the greenlight and everything is good to go.

How will it help? Well, I'll let Erimus tell ya :p

Thanks, Erimus and the DW Discord admins! I think it will prove to be an invaluable asset to have.

The Formidine Rift discussion channel is now up and running on FleetComm.

Rifters who are interested can join it : Here

When in the access lobby please state that you're a "Rifter" :)
(Note that there may be a ten minute delay once you join up. After ten minutes you should be able to type in the box.)

Just a reminder that FleetComm is a Discord server (so no need to download anything :)) and is one of the primary comms networks used on the Distant Worlds Expedition.

There is a dedicated Formidine Rift Channel on there now that is already quite active, and Rifters will have access to the emergency channel, fuel rat channel, looking for wings, announcements, photo gallery, and the official Distant Worlds radio channel; WaspRadio.

Once DW draws to a close, more of the existing channels will open up to new members.

If something major isn't organized beforehand from the posters in this thread, there are tentative discussions going on in FleetComm for a large scale expedition into the Formidine Rift once the Horizons patch 2.1 has been released (June/July).

More info on the expedition will appear on the Exploration Forum after Distant Worlds (approx. 10th April).

The Alice in Wonderland link is interesting and I don't think has been fully explored. The story has known parallels to that of Cupid and Psyche in Greek Mythology. The most obvious connection to that in game being the Heart (Cupid) and Soul (Pysche) Nebulae, which have obviously been linked to the Rift already, but I don't think with this connection.

In addition to the above I was just reading through the old Galnet articles about Kahina. The article dated 2nd April 3301 states that when she returned to Imperial space after her tour of the Sol system that she rendezvoused with the Imperial Interdictor Lucius.

The story of Cupid and Psyche is originally found in Metamorphoses (also called The Golden Ass) written in the 2nd century by LUCIUS Apuleius.

That seems to be far too much of a coincidence to me.

DW has mentioned before, to read between the lines. Meaning, the hints are going to be buried in stuff like that.

Awesome :D I added a link on the first page, directed toward your post. That way people see the post info as well.

I think Ovid wrote the Metamorphoses with Cupid and Psyche.

Lucius Apuleius also a Metamorphoses and he was a Berber. That is interesting in it self.

^^^ That's the stuff I like to find too. Some (strange?) cross references. Kahina was a Berber queen.

Damn it, I've been trying to ignore some of these theories (not because they're bad but because there are so many) but that is an interesting coincidence. I hate to say it but I found another line that ties much of this to the Rosicrucian order, and once that happens the whole Illuminati-esque nature of the mystery comes full circle.

Lucius Apuleius was also a mystery initiate.

Most important of these were the Eleusinian Mysteries,

These revolve around Dementer and Persephone (Kore).

I belive that this may be what Kahina did not want to be late for on Earth.

The secret seremonies also involves dirinking Kykeon, a psychoactive barley drink.

This may be what Kahina received from the 'consert' organizers. Dirinking it before going home, induced memory loss and turned her into Salome?

I am fairly new to this so please accept me apologies if this is obvious or has been mentioned before: but a GRAEH sector does exist (and it's in the outer arm of the Rift, I think).

Could be good enough. There are alternative spellings for this old stuff.

It would have to be a sort of hybrid spelling; "GRAEA" would be the Latin word for a single 'sister'; the original Greek spelling would be, in transliteration, "GRAIA" or, in poetic language, "GRAIH" (H representing the letter Eta, standing for the long E sound). Thus, "GRAEH" would have to be a mix between Latin "GRAEA" and (poetic) Greek "GRAIH".
Does not sound very probable, I know...

Yes , graeh is in the outer arm . I am also on the way to there for some sub-systems scans.
