The Formidine Rift - Part 2

For quite some time I'm reconsidering our focus on the R-R line and it's significancy, the galaxy arms etc. I think that with this statement "CMDRs may wish to consider the, ahem, core of the problem." Drew tried to turn our focus on the core worlds. Most of us were too eager to solve the mystery and rushed headless into the void (including me). IMO this "Whether it is found or not depends entirely on who goes looking." implies, that the person need to know some information, that could be obtained only in the core worlds or via cracking the Galnet articles about senator Kahina. Remember, that the clues from the book are only complementary. We took the R-R line and other things from the book as solid facts, maybe they are not so solid.

I'd go back into the Bubble, to search for the main clues, but my RL is quite hectic and does not allow me to invest so much time into the game, so I will remain in the void and try my luck. :)

The thing is....we just don't know how the games works. I could go to all the systems required and miss what's there (if anything). I could put it down to a bug or something. 99.99% of games we get in 1day-1week. We know how the mobs spawn.....we know how thay act...or only other players give us variety nowadays.....then there was elite.....that keeps you guessing and ripping every sentence any official makes to shreds for clues..:) love it

Looking at the u.a.s...hidden mechanics is possible. If it wasn't for the big guy saying "have you listened to them?" And the fact cannon had a few sound engineers on the job thay may still be stuck throwing a u.a. about.
To my that sets the standard of mistery. Complex.

I agree, and I think there are valid reasons to doubt the RR line: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=239212&page=136&p=3767837#post3767837

Farm barnacles for jumponium before you go again. You can contribute to the MA CG while you do it then too.

Merope 5C barnacles yield Yttrium, Arsenic and Germanium
Pleiades sector JC-U B3-2 1 barnacles yield chromium, niobium and vanadium
Pleiades sector JC-U B3-2 2 barnacles yield vanadium, Germanium and cadmium
Pleione 11A barnacles yield Yttrium Arsenic and Germanium
Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-16 C4 barnacles yield chromium, nickel and niobium
---
I then go to Heilelang 3 and scour the surface rocks for polonium. It also yields niobium, germanium and vanadium there. Great planet that isn't low gravity so they don't fly off all over the place. Find a flat area and search around for metallic meteorites for best results (two lines on the lower part of the radar). the rocks that are a single line on the bottom of the radar can give some rare minerals too. I tend to land at 8.59, 15.24 and then drive back and to towards 8.59, 15.26 which was suggested by another commander a while back on reddit (username non_idea). Nice flat area where you seem to find a few groups of three metallic meteorites fairly frequently.
Merope 1A is good for Zinc and cadmium (Zinc, nickel, chromium and vanadium are needed for basic AFM refills)
---
Basic AFM refill = 2 nickel, 2 zinc, 2 chromium and 3 vanadium
Basic SRV refuel = 1 sulphur and 1 phosphorous
Basic SRV repair = 2 iron, 1 nickel
Jumponium 25% boost = 2 vanadium and 1 germanium
Jumponium 50% boost = 1 vanadium, 1 germanium, 2 cadmium and 1 niobium
Jumponium 100% boost = 3 niobium, 1 arsenic, 1 yttrium and 1 polomium

thanks to this guide i now have everything i need except polonium. i am on heilelang 3 at the mentioned coordinates but during one tank filling(!) i found 3 meteorites with 1 niobium. does anybody know any other way to get polonium?

One more thing about the possibilities of fast travel.
It's odd that the only other galaxies that move when we pan the milkyway about is the large and small cloud....just saying...possible 8-9th explanation:D

I've been retracing the paths of Kahina as well as every character and place mentioned in the expanded lore. Some of places don't exist, but so far I've been looking for news and signal sources and stuff at every station in Sol, Achenar, Reorte, Riedquat, Leetsi, Lave, Tianve, the stations and Lagrange points on Tionisla, and trundled around LTT 8740. So far nothing, but a funeral convoy was in the same place as the Tionisla graveyard, which is a nice nod to the books. I also 'discovered' that Isinor, a religious cult place that that a main character went to, is permit locked. But I can't get the permit, presumably do to bugs. After that I kinda lost my motivation.

I'll keep looking, I just haven't gotten around to reading three of the books. I'm open to suggestions, but I don't have the Alioth permit yet.

I'm not exactly sure yet but for me it seems the old lady came to know whatever was in her head about 150years ago. I'm trying to read as much lore as I can and I know her age was discussed before. What bugs me is her mentioning the Galcop on the holofac, an organisation Drew himself admitted as disbanded 128years ago. Even if her mind was tempered with that instinctive fear has to come from personal experience. Her findings are I guess about 150years old which would allow the RR line to move significantly. It confirms us the approx location of the Rift, an already huge help by itself

My guess is that it's because they are so close to our galaxy?

Indeed. Still, I would expect the world in question to be one of the old worlds. I we consider that Drew said that erimus map is roughly correct, and that it must be in ~ same plane as reorte,
that leaves : Diso (lead near H&S), Leesti and Quator (not too far from H&S, but further than Diso line).

Anarchy system in the diso region (first elite) : Uszaa, Riedquat, Quator

I was thinking more that the line might not be Reorte-Riedquat (as the old woman said in the hospital), but rather Reorte-SystemX (with SystemX the 'friendliest system this side of Riedquat'), as that's what seems to be implied in the epilogue of Reclamation.
In any case, the age of the old woman is another interesting issue: she also mentions in the book that she “Even took on a Thargoid mothership once and I won ...” That might make her quite old http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Timeline

Quator was my first guess :), but in any case I would also put priority on one of the Old Worlds. There's also an interesting link between Cuthrick Delaney and Lave, and the line Reorte-Lave has some intersting properties, but probably way too much tinfoil now.

Log off, close the launcher. Log back on and hope the random number generator smiles on you.

It's about as useful as wearing lucky socks probably, but it's what I do.

Glad the guide was useful for you!

You're on a planet that has polonium in an area that will generate meteorites, now and then. It is a very rare material so you won't get it straight away but you will get it. Stick with it and you'll be fine. You've certainly saved plenty of time already so don't worry about it. There's no quicker way I'm afraid, unless you find a barnacle on a polonium bearing planet, which would be helpful for everyone! :)

With regards to the Rift
.
.

I noticed this!

http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_Main_Page

Look at the description for the Oolite discussion forum..

"The friendliest Board this side of Riedquat: a place to discuss Oolite, OXPs, game tactics etc. "
.
.
Would seem to be an "in" reference to the boards that members easily identify with rather than a clue for us. Although there may be a clue in it somewhere perhaps.. Who knows?

http://aegidian.org/bb/search.php?k...t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

The point seems to be that there is no other side to Riedquat as there is nothing there in the original Elite as it's on the edge of the map.

Ooooooh now that's interesting! Can the expression be traced to something in Elite lore? Or is this just a joke from Drew? There are other places in Reclamation where he sort of subtly refer to Oolite: “Right on,’ the woman whispered, her eyes closing. ‘Quite a saga it was. Life on the Frontier; not easy, but one hell of a ride. Elite combateers, we always … always made a difference …” I read saga, I think 'Oolite' ;)

Edit: quoted you before you added this link http://aegidian.org/bb/search.php?k...t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search. Hassan's comments are taken word for word from some of Drew's comments on that board, and indeed 'this side of' seems to be quite literally.

An explanation on the boards when Drew asked about it..

Hi hugorune, and welcome to "the friendliest board this side of Riedquat!"™

This always bothered me. Riedquat is a nasty horrible hole of a place, one of the worst anarchy systems in chart 1...

Being the most friendly place on this side of a 'wretched hive of scum and villiany' isn't much of a claim to fame!!

Welcome to the board though!

Cheers,

Drew.

From the Chart list:

Riedquat (3,181)

Although it shares the smallest 'x' ordinate with Edinso and Uszaa Riedquat is now regarded as the most 'westerly' of all the systems of chart one and therefore anything 'this side' of it, is bound to be friendlier...

Which would also explain why they commented on the sense of humour regarding the comment in the book.
.
Seems it may just be a nod to Elite's original map for Galaxy 1 and the Oolite boards.

I went through all the Galnet articles about lady Kahina. This one has interesting title and caught my eye - 27 MAR 3301 – Alliance Shines Light on Prism Senator - hm, shines light, maybe guiding light for us. Alioth is the capital system of Alliance. From all the systems mentioned in Galnet articles about Kahina only this one has ingame reference about it's ancient name - Epsilon Ursae Majoris - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epsilon_Ursae_Majoris. About Ursa Major - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursa_Major#Mythology. Number seven is in the wiki's texts mentioned too many times. IMO maybe it's not a coincidence with the name "Seven Veils" (seven stars? ursa majoris?). Have a look commanders it's almost midnight, so I'm done for this session. Maybe some clue will be revealed. Fly safe, o7.
