Why does the Reorte Z Co-ordinate and the Riedquat X Co-ordinate add up to exactly 144? It troubles me that its so precise considering its to such accurate decimal places.

Reorte
X:75.75
Y:48.75
Z:75.15625

Riedquat
X:68.84375
Y:48.75
Z:69.75

Although its late and I'm tired

Hmm..
.
Might this imply that the old systems were put into positions that show a geometric shape when you draw a line from one to the other?
.
Draw a line from Reorte to Riedquat and keep going?

Maybe take the difference between them, then subtract the difference between Reorte X and Riedquat Z. Look up what happened in that year
It's late here too ;)

I went through all the Galnet articles about lady Kahina. This one has interesting title and caught my eye - 27 MAR 3301 – Alliance Shines Light on Prism Senator - hm, shines light, maybe guiding light for us. Alioth is the capital system of Alliance. From all the systems mentioned in Galnet articles about Kahina only this one has ingame reference about it's ancient name - Epsilon Ursae Majoris - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epsilon_Ursae_Majoris. About Ursa Major - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursa_Major#Mythology. Number seven is in the wiki's texts mentioned too many times. IMO maybe it's not a coincidence with the name "Seven Veils" (seven stars? ursa majoris?). Have a look commanders it's almost midnight, so I'm done for this session. Maybe some clue will be revealed. Fly safe, o7.

One more bit from wiki (can't sleep :D) - "... , so it is used as a celestial reference point for navigation." Another coincidence? Who knows?
Drew, for sure. :D

Can we actually earn the permit to Alioth? It was my next stop after Isinor, but that got eaten by bugs, I figured Alioth would be the same.

I've been on the road for a few weeks, just got back tonight. I'd come to the conclusion about a month ago that the RR line wasn't right. I'd tracked down the OOlite 'friendliest place this side of Reidquat' reference and in fact Drew himself posted this years ago when he started the book:
http://bb.aegidian.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13886

Now that I'm back I'm going to follow up on a Reorte-Diso line. In the old maps Diso was essentially 'this side of Reidquat', i.e. between Reidquat and Reorte and is here as well. One thing to note, DISO in slang terms stands for "Desperately In Search Of'.

Just a question for a noob that forgot most of his Scout Skills... (BP must be crying from the heavens...)

The Syroifoe Oasis is considered on the other side of the Rift, right?

"Friendliest system this side to Riedquat".

I'd like to address this for a moment. Its a joke. Saying friendliest *anything* this side of Riedquat not a compliment. As Hassan says in the book Riedquat is "a hell-hole. An anarchy system for centuries. Totally lawless. No sane trader would go near it."

I think the simplest explanation is that Hassan merely spoke the often repeated phrase "Friendliest system this side of Riedquat" when he saw it on the Holofac when Salome pulled it up on the holofac. I don't think we are looking for a separate system that we need in order to calculate the "true" line to the Rift. Reorte to Riedquat is still right way to go.

As far as Drew saying that Erimus' map is "broadly" correct in identifying the Rift, I think what Drew means is "Yes, the Rift is located inside the marked area but the area marked encompasses a volume of space that is larger than the Rift itself. Its kind of like a map of continental Europe where the entire land mass is labeled as "Germany." Yes, Germany is included in the map but a more accurate map would pin-point he location.

I took 'friendliest place on this side' to mean Heheng, a democracy on the same side of Riedquat as Achenar, which is where they were collecting the data, right? A Reorte-Heheng line passes right through the Heart nebula and to the very end of the 'stump' of the arm.

That's an interesting thread right there. Some quotes:
As a starter for ten, one thing that will be in there is a line of dialogue including the "...friendliest place this side of Riedquat."
...
'She' will have a cameo. ;) ... We'd always pegged Oolite at around 3142, so this is 158 years later. Young Rebecca will be a very old lady...
...
It was fun trying to find ways to sneak Oolite references past the sensors/censors. I got away with most of them.

Guess that settles that then. Regarding the Riedquat issue, it does matter though, quite a bit. Did Drew use the mention of Riedquat just as an excuse to insert the 'friendliest system this side of Riedquat' quote, or is it actually meaningful with respect to the Formidine Rift and do we need to rethink where we are looking? Would be nice to get some answers.

Which is where who were collecting the data? You mean Hassan and Salome? Where did you get that info? :S

Further up this thread we got some clarification on this, and Drew's comment to that effect may be posted on the OP here as well. Basically he said that Salome' was on Achenar when the events of the epilogue went down.

Sounds interesting but why would you draw a line from Achenar to Reorte? Where does it say to do that?
.
It looks like the "friendliest place this side of reidquat" is a nod to the Oolite forums though..

I wouldn't read too much in Alliance Shines Light on Prism Senator. That's probably more of a tabloid-like play on words. "Light on a Prism" get it? Get it? :p

And I really think that the 7 veils refer to the seven layers a star sheds when becoming a neutron star. Especially given Drews interest in astronomy, that description would be too much of a coincidence in my book.

I am returning Home to refit "Tinkerbell" (my ship) after my second try at crossing the Rift along the area of the RR.
Currently Tink has a 34/37 jump, am going to have a think about attempting it in a 40 jump ship.
Attempted from both Sol side of Rift and Outer Arm side. (using the Formidine bridge to cross)

Has anyone crossed the rift along the RR at all (without Jumponium).
And if so do you have logs ?

Angle of refraction using sol, achenar, prism as the triangle and Alioth as the light source ?

or the Core is to enterBH sag *A and we are warped towards the formidine Rift. just tinfoil hat thinking

I have a full catalog of the NGC 7822 black holes too. I will run some comparisons on those tomorrow morning.

Thinking of it, maybe we can travel from black hole to black hole---we just haven't chosen a black hole on the other side wide enough to let our ship out!

Ps...can you give solar radius as well? I need that to work the size out.

Cheers bud.
