The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Alongside DancingLemur, I think we have a shot at narrowing the search area by quite a lot. Will post tomorrow night, it's getting late. It seems, in that regard, that we have 'mapped' and 'dark systems' wrong, or that they eventually are not connected. Blah.

Also she "the old lady" made it as far as the Rift, yet she tells them they have to cross. 0.o

Be careful with combining the two accounts from the old woman - they are many years apart.

In the hospital she says she 'made it as far as', whilst in the holofac, recorded a couple of decades earlier at least, we get more precise information.

I'll admit, any theory is a long shot, even insane with what information we have, but as someone who enjoys exploring, a career that to be quite frank is dull and needs more work, I'll take anything that gives me some excitement or interest in discovering something.

And if that involves following crazy clues, by a crazy woman, who is clearly a few sandwiches short of a picnic, I'll take it!

Do I expect to find the Thargoid Fleet..... No..... but just to find the one planet with Alien Life on would make it worth while :)

In thinking about several things, like, what would look like something called "formidine rift", and where I would go if I wanted to hide me / hide something. Starting from the idea that the RR line only serves to point the entry of the Rift or the safest way to the Rift, and, that we know that its current position is considered "broadly correct", I added on the Erimus map what I believe to be the Rift. This area is darker, it is rather deterrent for explorers to the extent that it seems empty. However the area is accessible and relatively dense in some places. This area inspires fear and I think it takes motivation to go there.
I hesitate to make a detour there, but as this idea is based on pure supposition and that nothing concrete indicates that direction, I'd be almost happy if someone told me that I am wrong. It would avoid me a detour of 16000ly.

I've been wondering if the search is too far clockwise for a while, but currently talk of missions that have never been seen and concentrating on the core of the matter have me doing missions.... but the itch is still there.

There's a lot more of that outer arm than it looks like from the map

Comrades and friends.

I think it is time to head back to the core systems. Now.

I'm headed that way again too, taking in the occasional black hole and neutron field on the way back.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Children of Raxxla is one of the player factions that is up for the new power slot - and that handing in exploration data might be on of the CG events.

I will be back, oh rift, you mindlessly boggling expanse, you :p

I was just thinking about missions today - has anyone seen the Obfuscated in the Outer Rim missions lately? Or the SAP-8 or other missions that mention the involvement of the Dark Wheel? I have not seen them for ages (but mind you I have been playing very little the last few months). I wonder if with the server or other update they have modified these to be less common and/or tied to rep with one or more minor factions?

And from Galnet, Lady Kahina does not want to be late. So every day at six (am/pm), there will be some event happening. :D

I believe she didn't want to be late due to wanting to be in Cambridge for the vernal equinox. Precisely why, I haven't managed to fathom yet. I think all the brash behaviour at Mars High was to take away attention from the real purpose of the trip. I could be wrong though of course :)

Yep they only appear at founders world now apparently.

Interesting - do you know since when? And do you need a certain rep level with Pilot's Federation or Dark Wheel to be able to access them?

I've been thinking about this yesterday and today as well. I currently have a working theory along those lines, but do not want to reveal what it is until I conduct some experiments... I'll let folks know if anything comes of it. It might take a couple of weeks, or maybe longer even.

Which makes them Rank related, Which as Drew said Rank was not a part of getting the objective, so we can exclude them.
For this particular mystery perhaps. There are others out there too... which may or may not be related to whatever it is we are looking for. ;-)

Hence my questions, curious to know if Elite/Founder status is all you need to access these missions, or if there is some other rank or faction requirement to do so, and when they were centralized at Founder's world.

At the risk of being run out of this thread on a rail I am going to bring this up once more... but before I start know I have good reason.

Drew says "There might be hints on social media/forum/reddit etc"

This gave me a flashback to the only tinfoil theory that had a social media connection.

"Section PR5 row 2, seats 5&6 - Dead center ice perfect viewing height"

In short there is an "Eye" message that has appeared to several commanders including myself that contains a message that is also when googled found to have been made on the L.A. Kings subreddit.

Here is the log that started showing up randomly on certain commanders ships. -

Here is the post made on the /r/losangeleskings subreddit -

https://www.reddit.com/r/losangelesk...r_in_a/cwmb7pf

This connection has been dismissed but I feel Drew making a post specifically telling us there may be hints on social media and even calls out "Reddit" as a possible location is him responding to this connection having been brought into the light and then we dismissed it and he is saying "not so fast".

Maybe Kahina went to earth to look up old seating charts for historical sports stadiums. Maybe the person who wrote the hint was a big fan of classic Hockey and knew when he saw the "Rift" it was like those old holovids simulations of the L.A. Kings games he would attend. Remember Deep Space 9?? If Sisko needed to convey a hidden message about location and perspective I would not put it past him to hide it in a baseball seating analogy that only his son would put together. Drew is an author after all... twists, misdirection, and hints only Batman would put together would be the goal of any writer trying to hide a treasure map in his work.

This Reddit post about hockey tickets is in-game and we have still not received a reply from anyone at FDev stating what this message is in relation to or if there is some algorithm pulling random internet posts and turning them into Elite messages.

Ready for a touch of insanity? There is a PR5 postal code in the UK, not terribly far from Cambridge. I mean, it's still kinda far, but not as far as I expected.

http://www.streetfinder.co.uk/postcode/PR5.htm

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambridge#/media/File:Cambridge_UK_locator_map.svg

I have no idea whether there is a connection, but that PR5 code strikes me as being a little too close to the familiar to be a coincidence. Are there any other countries that use PR5 as a postal code?

Haven't been able to log much recently, but was happy to see that BlindPew has uploaded a vid on the Rift :D If you don't know of his channel on YT, check it out HERE

His exploration series inspired my appetite for exploration :)

Wait, isn't that exactly the sort of thing that someone trying to keep the secret would suggest if we were getting to close?
