The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Excellent work Qohen, really appreciate it. Wish I could invest more time and help with the effort, but RL has left me with approx. 3 hours per day mostly. Also I have found another challenge for Commander Turkwinif, the Owl Nebula. :)

Hello.
I Have also sort of joined the search. I am currently in the rift, entering Eafotls sector. I have not studied the clues particularly well, and have no idea were to search or what to look for. I will snail my way through the rift, and wander more or less aimlessly around, nearer or into the Outer arm.

I'd strongly recommend looking at the first post in this thread in detail, Acheron has done a nice job collating things. In particular check the next to last link on that page which points to Dommarraa's google doc page (also linked in his signature) where he's collected most of the maps, way points and information on how to approach the Rift in a methodical fashion.

Thanks. I Will do so :) I am also trying to read through more of the thread. There are many good points made as far as I have come. I am impressed by the work some of you have put down towards this mystery [smile]

I explored the Ishtar idea some time ago. The interesting thing about it is that Ishtar has to discard 7 items of clothing.

The two first are the tiara and a jewel/necklace, which are abandonned by Kahina in her ship. The five next are :

  • bracelets
  • shoes
  • face veil
  • outer robe
  • dress

I have been trying to find a way to link those to locations / waypoints, but no luck.

I always wondered about the tiara thing. In the book at the end of the last chapter (before the epilogue, so still AD 3300? in any case before the GalNet events) she already gives it up. She hands it to Luko when she decides she wants to be Salome, saying she won't need it. So what happened in between that moment and her trip to Sol as Imperial senator? What made her change her mind to be Kahina again? And where did she get a new tiara? :D

Yep I suggested this here a while back (my quote above and link below).. The point has been discussed on and off since then, but no conclusion as far as I'm aware.

Great thanks! Good to have that link back.

A passage across the Poseidal Wall

Greetings, Commanders,

I just wanted to bring your attention to a recent route that has been plotted through the Formidine Rift (see attachment). I hope this might be of use to some who want to explore the area.

Cheers, CMDR Heisenberg6626

Hi, Commanders,
I wanted too ask if the Formidine Rift is confirmd too be where you all are searching? Can the entrance too the rift not be at the Skull and Crossbones nebula? Is this already explored?

Don't know if that's really all the way through the Formidine but I think i'll see if I can get to your end point from Virph sector on the New Outer Arm which is only 6000 lyr's from there which is nearly next door in these parts.

Some of these points are detailed in the book. Note that the timeline of the book and the Galnet posts overlap. I've done my best to document this in my rift journal.

Re: the 'two tiaras' - my take on it is Kahina had an Imperial tiara, as she was the daughter of a senator, and then got a new one when she became senator herself. Alternatively, it's possible that Luko is the one who left it in the seven veils.

Just looking at the Galaxy map, I think Peterfr has something here. I'm not saying we're looking in the wrong places as the R-R line is almost all we have to go on - but the Rift as marked is "Broadly Correct" Doesn't it make more sense for something called a "Rift" to be a noticeable break or gap IN a galactic arm instead of the gap between arms that occurs between all the arms all around the galaxy?

So we're looking at the far edge of the rift where the R-R line has sent us, but the actual "Rift" phenomena stretches all the way to beyond the Skull and Crossbones nebula?

Its player submitted content. It's great to highlight CMDRs turkwinif achievement. Don't think there is more to it Rift wise.

This is true but do not ignore it, on the UA thread we had a lil chat with MB about player submitted articles ( a few months ago ) for the gal net and one of the stipulations was that they would NOT contradict what FD have planned, so the fact that this has made it to gal net means something.

The items were:
  1. Crown
  2. Ear rings
  3. Necklace
  4. Breast adornment (probably feathers)
  5. Girdle with birth stones (ease birth type stones not modern astrology birth stones)
  6. bracelets for hands and feet
  7. loin cloth
This is interesting. I know Muetdhiver mentioned this order before.

I had the reverse order in my previous research, with the crown being the last thing to relinquish. If the crown or tiara was the first to go, then that would suggest to me that Salomé is at the beginning of her journey and has only passed through the first gate (unless the Dark Wheel medallion counts for the third item.)

I subscribed a few vids before this one ;) Also i see that in the 3(?) weeks i am drifting the rift i did better keeping my hull intact :p

Yeah ... The hull is a bit worn down. Totally misjudged my speed coming down for landing using FA off in the next video. So, yeah. I'll probably be "buckeyballing" it back to a station and then back out to the Rift tomorrow. I'm definitely limping!

I'm not sure what to make of it. The overlap in time frames with the events in the book and those in GalNet for sure is interesting. I have a feeling there's more to be gained from puzzling together the time frames and locations of the events, also those described in the book btw, than heading out and brute-force scanning all systems in the supposed Rift. I don't have the stamina to travel to Formidine Rift (if it's even there) and start jumping around, but I was having fun looking for other clues.

I had some spare time and re-read the book this weekend paying a bit more attention to the events and the characters and any little thing that might be relevant. But pfff ... there are so many little peculiar things and inconsistencies that could all be real hints, simply oversights, plain mistakes, or -apparently- even nods to the Oolite community, that I lost the motivation to follow through on any of them. And Drew has fallen silent now as well, it seems. Too much of a wild goose chase.

Having been the one who wrote the article ... I'd say don't look for clues in it. I deliberately kept the article as generic as possible because that's the best strategy for getting them to actually publish.

The number one reason I submitted was to shine a light on Turkwinif's achievement.

... The number two reason was to see if "Formidine Rift" was something we in the galaxy are supposed to know about. Kahina had to break into a database to get info on the Rift. This confirms that the concept of the Rift is well known throughout the galaxy. It's just the location and whatever the old lady saw that are classified.
