The Formidine Rift - Part 2

If I understand correctly the task Salomé issued will help us to identify at least one dimension of the rift. None can tell the future but it might help to narrow down the search area.
FD will want to see the story developing and I think Salomé is something like a fail-safe procedure (amongst other things). Her directives would only mark a step forward in the story and also some help in the search for 'It'.
I don't think anyone would be excluded from anything.

We have received a directive from Salomé.

We have been tasked to set up a permanent CoR presence between two specific locations on the outer edges of the Perseus arm, Upper 2nd Quadrant. This is speculated to be the near edge of what has become known as the Formidine Rift.

We have been tasked to patrol this region.

You haven't answered the most important question: in what direction do you have to look? ;)

Just to clarify, the CoR patrols (from what we're lead to believe), are not a search for "it", but to simply establish a permanent and mobile presence this side of the Rift... for reasons unknown.

Is this a military presence? Most explorers out there will be unarmed, but this sounds a lot like a blockade or a net for first contact with ...something. If explorers need to arm themselves then they'll need to start heading back to the bubble sooner rather than later, and we'll probably need a roll call to estimate the amount of firepower that we can bring to muster.

The Rift is a long way from home. No repairs out there, no Navy, and support is a week away at best. Quite the dangerous assignment.

It wasn't specified, but we have directed our pilots to go fully armed and with adequate defenses.

So Drew has given CoR the inside track on this, and will be drip-feeding stuff directly to them. Excellent news?

My impression is more along the lines of: The story line is going to advance whether anybody finds anything in the Rift or not (see UA "they're coming" post I made earlier) and this is a Lore friendly-ish way to get the word out rather than the typical Galnet posting. I suspect other than increasing interest and getting more warm bodies in the area it won't have any direct impact on finding whatever is out there to be found. In fact I'm highly suspicious if you hang around in that specific area you may not find *it*. But you may find what *it* is sending.

In short I suspect it's all part of a lead up to some new 2.1 story line.

I certainly have no inside info other than constantly keeping tabs on all info sources and constantly shuffling, sorting and recasting it like so many Tarot cards to see if it makes sense. Odly enough my post on the UA thread predated this dust up by about an hour or two and found the timing intriguing (but not germane)

No. I think it is safe to say that everything Erimus has posted here is exactly what CoR has been told. No more no less. The patrols along the Rift aren't looking for the mystery. My opinion? They are being deployed to create gravitas for the situation. If this is coming from Drew then remember: He's a writer. He's building a narrative here that everyone is welcome to participate in. There is nothing to prevent Federation, Imperial or Alliance player groups from responding to CoR's deployment by deploying their own forces.

Salome retrieved the old woman's message from an Imperial database so they know something ... it would be reasonable to conclude that the influx of explorers, followed by an apparent military build-up along the region by CoR, would attract their attention and invite a response.

No one is excluded.

What if you're not interested in following a spoiled brat with a hidden agenda? ;)

As for what's in the Rift, apparently its been there since Gamma, but with possibly 10,000,000 star systems to search, there's little chance of someone stumbling across it by chance in my honest opinion. Many people have been looking for it for over a year.

This for sure I agree with. They should have stayed on top of this more, injecting hints and leads (and events and mysteries!) that would have kept us guessing instead of blindly jumping around.

No - Salomé is basically the equivalent of the Cannon's Palin. But with actual interactivity with players of all factions. And a live in-game presence.

Oversensitive at not being the only game in town much?

Happy Canoon Day BTW.

This is exactly it. We're pawns if anything, used in a greater game that's to be played out to all. We've been thrown a bone after Salomé was essentially dropped by FD last year and pretty much killed off everything the CoR was set up for. Now she's back, we have a purpose. We await the next GalNet articles like everyone else.

Why do I get the distinct impression you are trying to say "a fleet of warships" :)

If I've read newsletters right, unarmed explorers should be ok until engineers drops so best practice would to be docked for that, then fly cheap until the bugs are worked out.

Looking forward to wizards with healing beams?

(insert Catherine Tate's Gran: What a load of old -----!)

It looks very much like a military deployment, which would be likely to counter a possible incursion. I would be surprised if troops are deployed in a specific place with just suspicions, there must be a concrete reason.

No need to be like that, I think we all want to know whats going on. Originally it was going to be through galnet but since galnet is once again not going as planned it looks like the narrative may be shifting to come through CoR. Which I think is awesome as I know you all will keep us in the loop (as seen by the post earlier) ... I think its mainly some confusion in general as to how the story will unfold and where we should look for clues.

And, indeed, Happy Canonn Day!

This could be interesting, CoR & Canonn fighting over the Formidine Rift. Think I'll get more popcorn now...

Drew giving hints about Salome's Beagle Point itinerary, Salome in a flyby at Beagle Point, giving hints where to sell exploration data, Salome at Formidine Rift hasting back to celebrate at CoR base. I hope the poor pilot gets some rest at some point, ~180KLy traveled in less than 3 months that is really awesome.

Erimus armed on long range patrol assignments...oh my.

Fun times ahead, and hopefully finally something new about the Formidine Rift, 4 week patrols?, so we are waiting for 2.1/1.6.

This, +1 - I wonder who could fly like that? Must have been Hassan or Luko maybe? ;-)
