The Formidine Rift - Part 2

there are non binding sites and communitys building up around the rift, sirius inc is one, but many of the rifters seem to be resistant to pooling info and resources into one community or two communities cannon being another, EDF comes to mind, having reached out to EDF though their only focus seems to be stealing members from other groups so ive ruled out co operation with them, and the cannon is an elephant in the room that has become a little caught up in being big.

Anyway a gripe around non aligned commanders making things a little more complex by fragmentation and the serach goes on

I'm quite happy to share. But I'm not going to fill in an *application form* or provide a *motivational statement* about "why I want to join group X".

I understand that sites need people to open accounts to let people post in forums but there's no reason not to allow read-only access to non-members or put 'sooper sekrit' labels on wikis etc.

I saw all of this on the first group site I looked at this morning and it put me right off. Why do I have to be " aligned" to contribute?

So FD has not used Palin to feed information to the Cannonn about the UAs? That was my point of equivalency.

Not really. All useful hits have come from MB on the threadnought. The Palin story has been very little about the science part and more about the 'Dark Forces'.
Canonn membership means nothing in the game or on the forum, but FD has allowed Dr Arcanonn to be a spokesman for the players, when new discoveries are made.
Mostly because LZ bothers to submit articles to Galnet.

No answer to that.
The player could decide in "Frontier: First Encounter" to save them or not.
Indeed. It's not at all helpful, but kinda taken it that even when you choose to help that they're still knocked out of galactic play by the plague. Maybe they're in Regor

Is this related to the stuff about exploration becoming more dangerous in 2.1?

I am now at a bit of a quandary about whether I should return and get armed up before going out again. I am nowhere near the core, but would be happy to consider joining you guys/gals out there. My Asp is configured for exploration so is a little light on defences and no guns at all. I am wondering if it might be prudent to change to another ship such as a FDS or FAS. Thoughts ?

Kitty
Erimus said the Rift Watch is to be a long term operation; I think the build up phase has just started, so there should be no imminent danger. However it might be a good idea to build a relationship (soon) with some engineers & get a defensive capability

Would it be possible to divide the area of the presumed Rift in chunks? For example 300LY³ pieces. List and name them and then we could choose from the list and not do it twice or more. One easy method could be to put down a system name somewhere all could see and then scan all systems in 300LY bubble then move to another not occupied.

Join FleetComm and let's coordinate, I've been drawing a precise map and trying to get some actual work done. I'd be happy to have you.

I think people will share when they have something to share. At the moment there are various Rifters pursuing their own hypotheses around the old lady's "clues", &/or just surveying the 'verse in that area. I'm sure any successful find will be widely disseminated when it happens.

The Sheet could have some extra categories for the "Area" column, or you could use the "Region/Type" if you like. Dive in and comment, or just do it.

So the Cannon has had no discussions and done no "science" or investigations based on interpretations of the Palin articles? You expect me to believe that? Not enough tinfoil in the world for that one.

ps. .,.. ......,. ... that line still haunts me. I suggested earlier that it could be a map. Maybe it is, but not in galaxy view.

Three stars system with

star .,..
star ......,.
star ...

bodies, comma been binary.

I think that's what Dommarraa was trying to organise with his spreadsheet. Ok for those who want organise, but some of us are lone wolves that prefer to do things usually by ourselves. And I'm not sure that the area of the Rift is well-defined as yet

It is not non-aligned commanders fragmenting the community. It is player groups. IMO. For example, I am non-aligned, but (despite Zoltan's subtle allegations to the contrary elsewhere) always shared everything I have done related to the UA mystery on the UA thread. Up until I stopped bothering with that mystery in any case. (and even shared a couple of things after that that I accidentally stumbled across, that friendly members of the Canon posted for me).

Similarly, anything I try that is known to be connected to the Rift I have posted here (or previously many months ago to the UA thread when it was the centre of discussion).

It is when discussions take place behind player group closed doors that things become fragmented.

The communications have been:
"We would like to do X" - No - Shortly followed by Palin does X
"Would Palin like to do X please" - No
He has been a hindrance to the science, grabbing the glory at BEST. He never said anything that we had not allready discovered previously.
Nice when he went away - They started dealing with Canonn directly.

Perhaps the reason Salomé is able to move across the galaxy so quickly is that she has the 'Argent's Quest' or one of the other Turner-Argent Quest ships?

(Nod to Han-Zen for info on these on this thread)

From Fleetcoms :

drewwagar: BTW...<gives mysterious look> Everyone missed an easter egg in the last Galnet article about Salomé. It's not a clue, but I wanted to see if you were all paying attention. So far, it appears not.

Which only further reinforces my point.

I've not seen anything from Prof Palin that I found believable.
science is about having a healthy streak of scepticism; evidence rules all theories!

I'm not saying it was believable or not - it was used to have the Cannonn move the story ahead. Like Salomé.

I think the only info he provided to the community was UAs are quasi-organic and they use materials around them to regenerate?
Discussions about Palin generally revolve around how useless he is, and how little info he has released despite his claim to be the galaxy's top UA researcher ;)

Again missing my point - see above.

Clav... Look here.

I personally couldn't give a rats what group I belong to. It simply doesn't matter to me. I enjoy the forums because I speak my mind, and very much like to think of new ideas. Whether that's in the Canonn Forum, the Rift forum or wherever. Its irrelevant. Because its a game. I take what I can out of it. Real life is where the bother and hassle is.
It shouldn't be here.

I see no trouble whatsoever with anyone of these forums. People seem to be completely open. They share because it makes the game more fun.
The biggest bother I can find is people becoming impatient with FDs dribbled storyline, and confusing it with something else. It is how it is.

So what if people have "Discussions behind closed doors" ?
It doesn't affect me or anyone else. I couldn't care less. If some group finds something, then I hardly think that is any different than a lone player finding something and deciding to keep it for himself. At the end of the day it makes no difference to how things have always been.

Now. Can we have enough of that topic, and get back to tinfoiling please?

Ta. ;)

Sure - I'm not the one who keeps bringing it up, I have been responding to others. You know, in a forum discussion. Cheers.
