The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Don't want to add to the stuff, but having spent some time in the Rift, I noticed a couple things that make me think I may be onto something here.
RUNNING OUT OF TINFOIL ALREADY?
WHAT A SHAME!

I hate to say it, but this is one of the few times I wish I could take away one of the reps I had previously given you. For one thing, aluminum foil is so 21st Century. You can't block out modern mind-control signals with anything less strong than duranium foil. And for another, joke or not you're killing me with the suspense of wondering whether your "lead" could blow the mystery wide open.

Strictly speaking lore-wise, it would be Duralium foil. ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

*Cue everyone typing Duralium into Galmap.*

I was going to say, cue everyone googleing Duralium to find out things like is melting point and atomic number and trying to work out galactic coordinates from that. Or counting the number of letters in each word Drew used looking for layers of meaning that simply aren't there.

You've got to use 'duralium foil' not just 'duralium' or you only get one coordinate, not two. We can assume the third point shares the common plane as Reorte and Reidquat.

Drew also said 'lore-wise' which could be interpreted as 'counter-clockwise' which means a reverse application of ROT13. Convert the letters to their ASCII numerical values and, there you have it.

... Yeah. I got nothing.

"And it was all a dream..." ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

ps. Duralium was the material ships' hulls were made out of according to 'The Dark Wheel', nothing more... nothing less!

Looks like Drew also popped into the Formidine rift channel on the fleetcomm discord this morning. He said the following:

Apologies for little in the way of updates folks. I've heard nothing myself. I suspect all staff are full-time on the new beta - something similar happened last time. There are only so many people at FD. We will have to be patient.

So, as was already suspected, we may be waiting for 2.1 to shake out before we start seeing more clues via Galnet. This is good. Many of us will want to participate in the Beta. This also gives us a chance to coordinate.

A dream! Laughed so hard I'm wiping coffee off my monitor!

<rp> Unfortunately, I'm a little stranded in the rift at the moment due a major systems malfunction... now waiting for a ship's computer reboot </rp> - EE "fouled" up my home move order so I'm without broadband, and having to rely on mobile internet, until Monday. It's defiinitely inadequate for ED, believe me, I've tried :(

'Make a mistake and not even two shells of time-stressed duralium and a belly full of missiles is going to save you from the vipers.'

Good material, but not invincible.:p

Hi folks,

A bit off topic(ish), but the galactic mapping project is now at a stage where we're considering sub-dividing the known parent regions into small sub regions. A bit like how American states are sub-divided into counties.

We think it would help add distinct character to the maps if the sub-regions had a certain 'theme' to them. For example, in the case of the Formidine Rift region, Drew has sent in 4 sub-regional names and has gone for Latin variations for 'fear'... for something like the Silentium Region, we could add sub-regions with Latin names for 'silence'. and so on....

Here's an example of the Formidine Rift with Drew's suggested sub-regional names added.

If any Rifters out to the far southeast (around Vig's Beacon) could supply a route toward the southern tip of Heisnebergs Crossing, and 'northeast' from there - across to the Perseus arm, this will help define the southeast borders of the Rift. The opposite border will probably be defined as the where the Formidine Bridge crosses the Rift.

Whilst some of you are having fun out in the dark, with your maps and your scans and whatnot, there are those of us (or possibly only me), who think that the trigger for discovery lies back in the Bubble ('...depends on who goes looking'). Sadly, all my theorizing has so far come to nought, so I figured I'd put my ideas out and see if anyone can make a connection that I've missed.

So...

There appears to be a mythological thread running through the clues, with Persephone being the primary link. She has ties to Hades and the underworld - the gates of which Virgil refers to as 'formidine'. There is also a connection to Ares/Mars through his son Deimos, whose Roman equivalent is 'Formido'.
In an additional link, the contraband liquor that Kahina was given on her trip to London is 'Gerasian' - from the planet Geras, which is named after the Greek god of Old Age. Does this tie in with the old woman who gave Kahina the Formidine story in the first place?

Based on these tenuous connections, I've been ligging around the Bubble with a hold full of Gerasian Gueuze Beer, delivering it to the Sol, Persephone, Avalon and Tartarus systems.
Oh yeah, Tartarus is the part of the Greek underworld where the Titans are imprisoned - Where did Kahina have an appointment? On Titan...

Unsurprisingly, none of this appears to have achieved anything.

Anybody have any better ideas?
