Did you happen by the Statue of Liberty nebula as well? As I said it's very small (even on the galactic map) and I'm wondering if it might have been missed thus far?

Yeah, I passed through it but can't recall scanning anything as it was a very diffuse and small nebula in gamma and not very interesting at all. All the nebula since then have been layered with more dust and texture and look far better so I'm pretty sure others will have been out there now and explored it. Still, if its not far from you it could be worth a look?

I passed through the Statue of Liberty Nebula recently

Just a nuance, but on Map 2 it shows the Perseus Arm as the Outer Arm. Unless I am greatly mistaken (always a possibility) these are two distinct arms. In ED the Outer Arm is pretty thin, but it is distinct out beyond the Perseus Arm.

Thanks, you're right :)

I'll fix that map once I get chance.

By the way, a tiny detail ... could you change the yellow text to a darker colour in the first post? I literally can't read it on my screen, it's too similar to the background ... and this is a thread I really want to be able to read easily! :(

Changed the POI headings to dark orange... let me know if that's any better.

Ok, here's my entry for NGC 7822, "the O-Star nebula". It's located about 2700 Ly from inhabited space and features about 40 systems named S171 XX. More info in the spoilers below.

Each one has a main O-Star and usually has other stars and/or black hole companions. The maximum being 3 black holes in S171 09 and 17 stars in S171 43. Lots of metal-rich planets too :)

It looks great close up (see screenshot) and intrigued me from far away because is looks like a big star with a halo that slowly resolves to a nebula crossed by a band of bright blue stars as you approach.

And a typical star system of that region

S171 30.png so many stars.png (check out the radar, so many stars !)

Well worth a visit IMHO :)

Cheers Nid, that's definitely one of the more impressive clusters in the game, but NGC 7822 is a real life place, and one that was inputted by FD. The POIs we're looking to change are the procedurally generated ones with the procedural names.

Also that cluster is already included within the Sadr Region entry. There's a lot of stuff in those sectors (too much to label separately), so they're currently all referenced under SADR. If the maps get too saturated with data I'll re-create them at different scales to fit more entries on.

Here's some info on NGC 7822 if you're interested in that cluster...

Maps updated.

I've had to remove the individual screenshots associated to each entry in post #1 as apparently a single post cannot have more than 36 images on it. So instead I've added a reference for each entry stating in which thread post (or youtube video) the images & videos associated with them can be found.

FAO : Traveler
The following entries are very close together on the map, too close for me to label separately, so they all come under the map reference point #11 (on the Galactic Core Map-11).
MYRIESLY MS-T E3-3831 Nebula --> Myriesly Northern Lazur Stellar Remnant
MYRIESLY YE-R E4-3646 Nebula --> Myriesly Drop Of Blood Nebula
MYRIESLY WJ-R E4-5254 Nebula --> Myriesly Blink Of An Eye Stellar Remnant
MYRIESLY CL-P E5-4186 Nebula --> Myriesly Emerald Look Stellar Remnant
MYRIESLY HR-N E6-4354 Nebula --> MYRIESLY HR-N E6-4354 Nebula (reference to "Amethyst Cloud" in description)

J02321675+6133149 --> Persean 2MASS Bright Cluster
I checked this entry on real star maps and the cluster already has a real life name, its called the IC 1805 Open Cluster, so I've added it to the map under that name (real life names override community submitted names).

*me smiling ;)

Added Neuth as index #13.

I think that cluster you're heading to could be the NGC 3293 Open Cluster. I passed through there during Gamma on the way to Eta Carina, but most of the stuff I surveyed on that trip was wiped at xmas due to a corrupted save so if no one else has been there you could tag the lot and claim the bonus payments :D

Let me know if its something different though :)

I just got there and it's actually the Jewel Box (some real pics here): http://www.universetoday.com/43626/telescopes-open-up-jewely-box/

Thing is, on the galaxy map, the Jewel Box covers a MUCH larger area, and this cluster is a smaller and more visible sub-set within it, so maybe it could get its own designation, like the Queen's Necklace or something (inside the jewel box ;) ). I say that because you'll notice one orange star standing out among the blue - that's a massive red giant, so it's like ruby on the necklace's centerpiece. ;)

I wasn't the first here - Princess Luna beat me to it, but was in a rush and only scanned few of the stars along the way (that's her mark on the giant). I scanned far more... hopefully I'll get back in time for the claims to count.

In an unrelated note, I call this one "Meat and two Veg" ;)

No, I'm not seriously suggesting naming it that... I was just easily amused when I saw this ;) Such a child, I know...

another Blood like planetary Nebula "HYPIO BLOU CW-V E2-1126"
more intresting at close distance, here is something strange drawing...

I found this extremely perky star system

Unfortunately I didn't note down the location. But there are probably lots like it.

LOL ;)

I've been exploring the intermediate 1st quadrant regions and will have some map updates of what's out there uploaded in a few days :)

Edit: Updated data

Edit: Added data for the Formidine Rift (and beyond).

Updated several maps with the following entries:

Sagittarius A*
The Kes-75 Magnetar
NGC 6820 Nebula
Vulpecula Badlands
Regor Sector
The Roncevaux Crossing
Hyponia
The Perseus Gap
The Iowhaidst Badlands

I've also began adding external links to wikipedia and scientific journals for certain points of interest.
