The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

As far as I know, the mapping project isn't taking nav hazards any more, due to the large number that would have to be added, and the changes that were made to make it less dangerous on warp-in. If you find stars that are actually physically in contact, report that, as those should be rare-to-impossible.

Possible Addition

Praea Euq PP-D d13-4

Neutron Star with very close companion Red Dwarf; orbited very closely by an Orange Dwarf and then distantly by a third Red Dwarf.

Definitely a bit of a navigation hazard!!

The system has a total of 14 Planets, mostly HMCs.

It's also quite high up above the galactic plane

It was first discovered by Comdr True Phoenix.

Name: Hell Port
Game map search ref: Seagull Sector DL-Y d3
Description: Hell Port is an asteroid base, with the name probably inspired not just by the nearby nebula, but also the lava world below, which is being torn apart by tidal forces. The station is wholly controlled by an anarchist faction called the Black Flag Gang, and there are none who oppose them. Yet these pirates managed to construct and operate a fully-equipped asteroid base that even has a shipyard, making Hell Port the most distant shipyard from the galactic core. Pilots who would be consider purchasing a ship here are advised not to ask where the ship came from.
As the station is roughly 10k ls away from the arrival star, and there is no law enforcement in the system, Commanders who wish to dock at Hell Port should be prepared for pirates attempting to interdict them on approach to the planet.

As it turns out, I was the one who first discovered this system, way back when I was first looking for an Earth-like world in the nebula's sector. I didn't find any, although by today, three have been found. However, it was a nice surprise to come back here over a year later, and see my name on the system's main star.

Hello Commanders!
First time posting here. I saw there was no pic and info on the EDSM database for this station, so here it goes (hope i'm doing it right)

The hottest landable I've seen, orbiting a B III Giant at a distance of only 29 ls - the surface temperature is a whopping 3919K! At this temperature any normal world-forming minerals or elements should be liquid at the very least, and most should be gaseous. And yet, there's a landable surface! Clearly the surface must be made of something like Scrith (the impossible material used to make the ringworld in Larry Niven's Ringworld series) - that must be what the other 9.8% of its composition is...

In light of recent events:
In my opinion EDDISCOVERY and EDSM are the single most important resource for exploration. Resulting from the lack of resources FDEV puts toward enhancing exploration in-game, these tools are vital for developing a deeper appreciation of the expanse of the Milky Way galaxy, and allows players to develop narratives and histories within the galaxy as a whole. Without these tools exploration in elite would be not much more than honk, scan, jump, repeat - with EDDISCOVERY and EDSM, however, exploration is as rich as the Milky Way itself. If these tools were permanently gone, it is conceivable that I might leave my cockpit for good.

Could you please give me the sector coordinates?
How far from the bubble is it?

Thank you.

POI: Candy Floss Nebula
POI Type: Nebula (Supernova remnant)
Location: Dryooe Flyou XE-Q E5-2992 Nebula

This unusual pink/purple supernova remnant contains a black hole orbited by several gas giants with moons. There are F V, K V, and M V stars in the system too that are orbiting the barycentre rather than the black hole itself and provide illumination for the planets and moons.

Game notes: Since the stars orbit the barycentre (are shown vertically on the system map) and are not in the black hole's system (to the right of the black hole on the system map), they actually do provide illumination for the planets and moons around the black hole - so unlike many other BH systems, the planets are not in darkness.

Just as a general note, if a small nebula contains a black hole or neutron star then it should be more properly called a Supernova Remnant.

A Planetary Nebula is specifically a shell of gas/dust that has a white dwarf at its centre, caused when a red giant puffs out its outer layers to reveal the WD core. I don't know if these even exist in Elite Dangerous though - has anyone seen a nebula centred on a WD?

This is technically accurate. I've never seen a WD nebula (some giants can be as well, as they tend to eject shells in bursts, I think I've seen some hand crafted ones out near Orion).

As far as what stellar forge is putting out procedurally -- it's 90% Neutrons and 10% Black Holes. It also means that pretty much all Planetary Nebs by Mapping efforts are Remnants. It would probably be easier just to lump remnants and PNs together into the same catagory. Much like larger scale molly clouds both emissive, reflective and diffuse are pigeon holed as nebulae.

It's pretty par for the course stuff, after all "Planetary Nebula" is a *bad* name for these objects that Herschel lumped us all with.
