The game is looking a lot like my commute to work

And just what is the political symbolism of the Gadsden flag these days?

Not being from the US, I had thought it was something appropriated by Tea Party activists and the like, a bit like the Confederate flag.

It's a symbol adopted by the Alt Right nationalist libertarian mob.

It's not so much white polo shirts and red MAGA hats, more that owning six guns and marching around looking like a live action role player wanna be veteran. Rolling coal coz I'm free dum.

If Frontier put it in game they'd be asleep at the wheel. It's got some pretty toxic connotations and is much loved by some nasty extremists. Not as blatant as the hakenkreuz, but if you wave that flag you're looking for a fight.

Whenever we dock at a station we are reminded to yield to larger vessels, right? So I'm leaving a station in my Beluga, carefully lining up so I don't scratch the lovely paintjob, and a Cobra bumps my tailfin as it enters the station. I chuckle a bit, knowing my shield would prevent any damage to my ship, but then I receive a fine of 150cr for dangerous flying?! Really? He hit me, but I get the fine? .

So you are being fined although you are under the speed limit? Have you got a video? If true it needs to be bug reported.

You get cautioned for reckless flying when within the speed limit, you get fined for reckless flying when above the speed limit. That is intended design and how it works on my system. As always, a video will clear this up quickly.

Not sure if it counts but on my weekly travels near Frankfurt I often find the slowest vehicles doing 140+ ! I actually really enjoy being harassed by the npcs in ED !

Friendly reminder....NPCs never yield to YOUR larger vessel. When I fly the Beluga i get hit maybe 50% of the time. I just try to go within the speed limit (70-80) and watch for incoming ships on the radar. But even that doesn't help. NPCs will come off their pads right on top of my ship. Like they have no clue a giant space yacht is sitting right above them.

Yeah, which is why I have, on occasion, made the oblivious NPCs pay when I'm in my Cutter. As long as I'm under the speed limit, I'm legal. Some relatively big ship (e.g. AspX, Orca, T7) tries to squeeze by my cutter in the mail slot, I use my thrusters to side ram him over and over into the slot. Eventually I leave - with no real loss in shields - while I get to watch that jerk hobble to his landing pad with no shields and 85% or less hull!:D

I once got stuck in the mail slot with a Beluga (I'm going out, he's coming in). I just kept going back and forth with the thrusters until I eventually wedged by and got clear. Never went over the speed limit, so no fine. He landed with damage and I left with 2.8 rings of shields.

It is annoying to listen to the traffic controllers complain. But since they aren't actually doing any guidance, I blow them off.

P.S. I've been known to go to Anarchy systems with tourist beacons, and "blow off steam" by blowing up one Beluga after another (all NPCs). So therapeutic...

Exactly.

You don't have to drop to 100 m/s right after dropping in, but you should definitely be below 100 m/s by the time you close within 1 km or so of the slot. That's where most of the collisions happen. I usually aim to be traveling around 90 m/s by then, so I have some wiggle room if I need to correct my position with lateral thrust. Since I've started doing this, I've had no issues with reckless flying fines.

(That being said, the (complete lack of...) flight control procedures are absolutely INSANE. It's amazing we don't see a lot more collisions than we do.)

I got a fine the other night, trying to leave the station, but the slot was completely blocked by a stuck sideways NPC Beluga !! was just about able to scrap part in my FDL but got a fine. Still I guess the poor NPC had a worse time, a minute later the station got fed up with him blow him up. Still it is a pain that I got a fine.

So there I was, all snug in my Warvette, getting ready to head out and win someone's private war for them (nice selection of massacre missions, don't worry, I didn't screw up anybody's BGS, more on this later). Lined up with the mail slot, pushed ahead to 75, was about half way through the slot when a low-hanging (below the mailslot) NPC Beluga popped up and came right down the center of the mailslot, like it owned the way.

I wasn't about to back down and the beluga wasn't about to move, so we were, literally, at an impasse. Actually wedged quite nicely. I pushed my throttle and even threw in some forward thrusters to muster as much pushing power as I could. A wiggle, a jiggle, and I managed to get its tail caught in the toast rack.

Unfortunately, I was also running out of time, with only a minute remaining to clear the way, I did the only thing I could. A quick dimensional shift, via the Exit to Main Menu option. When I shifted back into this dimension I was free and clear of the station, and on my way. I can only wonder at the fate of that beluga, which I have nicknamed "The Hanging Chad", though I imagine it involved the use of station pacification emplacements.

I sincerely want a decal pack for my ships with a Gadsden flag (Don't Tread on Me rattlesnake on the yellow background) because the injustice of this makes me go all Libertarian. OK, maybe I am over-dramatizing a bit. ;) But I really would like a Gadsden decal for my ships.

Even when you fly in the largest vessel available they will still tell you to yield to larger ships.

I once destroyed an unknown small ship without even noticing.
I only noticed that I got a bounty. Perhaps I smashed a Sidewinder with a nacelle.
So, if these small ships don't yield for my Cutter, they are out of luck, because I can't possibly break quickly in that monster.

I spend most of my time in heavy ships, the smaller ships do yield (if you are going below the speed limit) From observations, speeding until within 3km then decelerating to 90m/s is optimal for the Cutter/T-10, you don't want to be going too slow through the slot. Smaller ships yield, I have seen it on countless occasions.

In my opinion there are two bugs in the code, NPC's will not give sufficient clearance when approaching from the rear of the ship, in some cases they will attempt an overtake, hitting the ship in the process. Police scans are still broken, there is no need for them to boost towards a giant ship at close range, they should be closing to the resolve distance and scanning, no drama.

You only have to spend a few days at a CG in open to see how most cmdrs fly through the slot, hardly any are going through the slot at 90m/s

Anyway, not an issue if you set scanners to minimum range and monitor traffic.

I've noticed far more yielding when I'm coming in and they're heading out than the other way around. Really the only issue I have in my Cutter (and occasionally Corvette) any more is when T9's and Belugas are coming in. Usually, I'll yield to them and be fine.

As far as checking the scanner goes, even that has it's limits - like when your launching from the bays right next to the exit. By the time you get high enough off the pad for it to switch to the Scanner, you see the Beluga coming right for you! lol

I've had the most problems recently with little ships coming from behind, just as you mentioned - sidewinders, Cobras, etc. flying in, under, and (if we're lucky) past me. The most annoying experience recently was when an Orca kept ramming my Corvette's backside all the way through the mail slot. I only know what it was and that it was definitely doing that because I was in a wing at the time, and one of my friends saw the whole thing. They were like "Is that ship crazy?"

It would be nice if the game could give you actual traffic control - tell you when you're clear and when you need to hold. However, I can't imagine that amount of work that to would take to code correctly. And the debugging... ugh.

Yep, this is something that really needs to be looked into, especially at CG's in OPEN. You are essentially flying blind when launching from a pad, I don't see why we need the landing holographic when launching, I'd much prefer the sensor display when I am on the pad and departing. I always do a visual check in VR, fortunately I can see out the top of Lakons but view is still limited, in my Cobra I have no idea if a CMDR in a Corvette is launching behind me preparing to full throttle out of the slot.

I would like to see a representation of the dock with all ships on the holo display from the time I enter the mail slot until I get the landing pad display. It should also show me where my pad is. I can never find those first pads right by the mail slot.

Doing the same thing (show the entire bay in miniature from the moment the ship is released) so that we can see what is behind us would go a long way to helping.

The radar display doesn’t cut it. There is no reference frame for the station itself.

P.s. I have been fined for another ship hitting me when I was under the speed limit.

Don't you only get fines if you swap paint while you're speeding?
