The second Methane atmosphere planet visited in as many days.
The signature colour of the gas in the atmosphere, the typical rise in temperature and...
Familiar plant life. We are forming a theory that this type of plant only occurs on planets with a Methane atmosphere. The colour variation appears to be tied to the star type. We will continue to survey and report back if further observations confirm!
Our day did not go so well. A mis-calculation caused us to draw too close to an Type A star on our journey. The Star of the East has been damaged. Sadly - this was not to be the end of our misfortunes.
Our next stop was a planet with an Argon rich Carbon Dioxide atmosphere with it's signature blue. The addition of Sulphur Dioxide adds quite a mix and it indicative of the type of activity on this planet.
The vents were quiet, so we waited around.
After analysing the local Lava Vents - quiet for the moment - we can report a new observation:
Such vents registered a 40k increase of temperatures above the vent, and are in fact dangerous to health. We think that this variation compared to previous observations are based on the mean temperature. This planet had a higher temperature range to past system where we saw no increase at all in the vent's quiet stage.
We backed off to what we have previously considered a safe distance and waited for the vents to become active. Getting on with other paperwork distracted us. What a mistake! The temperature warning was received too late. We have lost the SRV, the genomics data and I barely escaped with my life.
Fellow Explorers - Vents are dangerous!
We visited a moon in the same system with a similar makeup. There was only bacterial life here.
The planet it orbits reminded us of Mars
So - what to do. The ship damaged, an SRV lost. Yes we have an AFM fitted but the hull is breached also. With a heavy heart we decided to head to port. Not back to the bubble though.
Millions lost in genomics. A 150kCr repair and restock bill was offset by 10MCr in Exploration Data that remained on board the Star of the East when the SRV was destroyed.
We have learned our lesson. Tomorrow is a new day!
