Powerplay The great un-pledged...

Im going to call bull. Mostly becuase the majority of people were fine with 1.2.... And you know whats changed? Not a whole lot. You are either letting power play poison your opinion. (its optional for a reason) or you never had much fun at all.

Er...I don't know which bit you're calling bull on, but I stand by my statements - I wasn't being flippant.

- The powers came out of nowhere...there's no backstory or lore to set them up as believable, non-two-dimensional characters. Plus I'm a King of the Empire....I see all of these politicians as of a lower social status anyway! They bicker and fight for territory....This doesn't interest me. Why would I put my life on the line for these strangers ? (I'm not suggesting that everyone follow my lead - its just how I feel about them and their squabbles)

- The rewards are under-whelming....you wouldn't pursue PP to make big money, that's for sure. I've not seen any unique rewards that made me sit up and pay attention.

- I don't want to be a automatic target simply for being in the wrong sector. I go where I like, and I'm not restricted by having to wear gang-colours. This is probably the main reason why I've not gotten involved. I'll find adventure and profit regardless of who is "controlling" space.

- I'm far away from inhabited space (17k Lys) and happy to be away from all the hullabaloo of political machinations.

- Lone-wolf updates are due. Wings (v1.2) was an essential addition for many (but not for me), Powerplay (v1.3) has set up a structure for future development and storytelling, and some players are already enjoying it. However for those of us that don't PVP or Co-op, its been a long time since we had any single-player-focussed new content.

Powerplay hasn't given me anything to get involved in yet - perhaps it will as it evolves. If you're enjoying it already, good for you.

I pledged with Patreaus when PP first came out to see what it was all about. It was a little confusing initially figuring out how to go about things but once I did I quite enjoyed taking part in operations. After a while though I realised that I wasnt ready to pledge and take part in furthering the Senator's plans in the grand scheme of things..didnt have enough cash, hadnt seen enough action or explored in any great detail, and as had been underlined in this thread there is no pathos or characterful appeal in any of the powers (yet) so its all a bit too soon for me.

Also I dont have enough gaming time per day to really get into it unfortunately :(

I don't play PP (yet) because:

1. I am a dirty opportunist min-maxing solo player who does not care about ideologies. First I want to see how all the special modules work, then I will go shopping around, fast track to the weapons and defect to the next guy. Gotta be prepared for them Thargoids!
2. While I wait I can smuggle slaves in my Anaconda undisturbed in Archon Delaine territory. Enjoying the sweet blackmarket profitses without risk of being scanned by cops and interdicted by agents of other powers.

I don't care about pp.

But I did pledge, because I'm out exploring. When I get back, I'll have served my 4 weeks, and will get my prismatic shields with minimal effort. Then I'll forget pp again. I'll probably stay pledged but not do pp, up until it interferes with the rest of my game.

CMDR! Have YOU not pledged to a power... still?

Please briefly state why in this thread.

Have you changed where you base yourself now?

And, if you don't mind...

are you finding any new benefits from Power Play as one of the great un-pledged?

With thanks CMDRs.
frankly your pandering to the unimaginative you know the ones who are happy to be the grey man in the background who complain they are bored but never take part th etype that would stay in their ordinary job even if they won 90 million on the lottery form me its a couple of days minimal effort which adds another 5million to many credits every thursday and this thursday a new weapon which i sure the great unimaginative will complain about when i use it

I may be misunderstanding you (please, try at least full stops!) but are you saying that the ones who like to work a clearly defined hamster wheel, while worshipping a painting of a celebrity, have more imagination than those who don't need these artificial props?

this is a forum not an english exam so get over yourself if you need to see a full stop to take a breath that says it all about you! you know you have hit the spot when they attack your english and gramma

Unfortunately those with an imagination can imagine just how much greater and richer ED could really be if FD had more imagination and we didn't have to fill so many creative gaps all the time by using our imagination...Grey is the new black :)

Okay, I'll keep this brief. I couldn't understand at all what point you were making. This is indeed a forum, but there's no point in posting messages on it if they are unintelligible.

Totally agree, we but only need to employ our imagination and it will become clear where the punctuation is located and with it the meaning of the words it shapes.

Sorry not trying to take a shot at your English skills just an observation that, in English, punctuation can radically change the meaning of the sentence so it is kind of important if others are to understand your meaning.

That's difficult for me to understand (I appreciate English may not be your first language though so my apologies), but you seem to be saying that things are great because everything is so blank and devoid of lore, therefore encourages you to use your imagination?

By that standard let me introduce you to the best thing ever.

Even my most active imagination is having a hard time deciphering your stream of consciousness, with its lack of capitalisation, sentence structure, bad grammar, and general lack of coherence :)

As for "lack of imagination"; I've been playing this game since Premium Beta last year, I am of the generation that played the original Elite, and subsequently Frontier: Elite II. I totally missed the third Elite (Frontier: First Encounters).

There is only so far your imagination will take you, before this game's lack of general content begins to wear thin. I have now reached the point where I have ran out of the will to start this game. I started off ED as a bounty hunter, which got me funded eventually for Exploration. I have been to Sag. A* and beyond. I tried trading and hated the repetitiveness of it. I won't ever be a pirate. I've tried a little bit of smuggling. And Powerplay simply doesn't interest me.

I want to get back out there exploring, but I just can't face the general lifelessness of the galaxy any more and looking at countless Yet More Spheres - some burning, some not. I want to encounter alien life. I want to land on one of my Earth-likes I discovered and observe any native plant and animal life on them. I want to be chased away by a planet's species who have just about mastered spaceflight in their solar system but haven't discovered FTL travel yet. I want to fly into the upper atmosphere of a gas giant and glide beside shoals of floating Leviathans that might have evolved under the right conditions in those Gas Giants.

But none of the above is in the game.

Now, who's got the lack of imagination here? Me, or FDEV?

They have full stops in every language (Indo-European anyway). He was right, that didn't make sense. It might not be an English exam, but it is an English language forum, so if something is difficult to understand, he has every right to ask for clarification Mr. forum police.

Some people like PP and some don’t. Those that do however do not need to get so annoyed at those who don’t. And I am very suspicious that they want more people playing it solely because more people in the lower tiers will push more up into the top tiers, but maybe I’m just cynical.

Punctuation helps with comprehension. I'm not commenting on your vocabulary or your spelling. A three line run-on sentence is very difficult to follow without punctuation. If you want to contribute then it will help if your contribution can be understood by others.

That may, in fact, be the best thing ever. Haha.

Perhaps it's "hardcore gamer" written English - with no punctuation being the equivalent of no crosshairs nor auto-aim? Sheesh, get skillz dude ;)
