Thanks

I can't thank you enough for this guide. I have about 10 hours in ED and am still flying around in a Sidewinder doing small missions (although a lot of that is the simple joy I get just from flying around and docking and not worrying about accumulating wealth yet). I've done the tutorials, read a few help threads, and watched a bunch of Youtube videos, but this post is without a doubt the best guide for anyone getting started in this game. Everything is in one post, well written and organized. I registered for the forums just to say thank you.

Such a great starter guide! I knew a lot, but i did NOT know all this! I'm gonna try your key bindings when I get home tomorrow. Looking forward to it ;D

"Elite Dangerous has a fair old learning curve,"

Would sound better and actually make more sense if you said
"Elite Dangerous has a fairly steep learning curve,"

Quite simply put, this guide has been an absolute god send. I have learnt so much just from reading it's words of wisdom and have made my way in the universe well. Mistakes have been made, it's true, but on the whole this has allowed me to progress well. I now have two ships (fully decked out Lakon type 6 for trading (mainly rares it's true) and a kitted out Viper for Bounty hunting etc and around 6 mill crs in the bank.

In addition, I love the Hitchhikers references and due to this, I listened to the whole series again whilst playing.

Hey, you sass that hoopy Technophebe? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is! :D:cool:

A little piece of advice that might be worth adding to the trading section:

Whenever you arrive at a station with a hold full of goods always check the bulletin board, as it is possible that there will be a mission asking for those goods. Accept the mission and immediately fulfil it for a good profit.

Just read this thread. Nice beginner guide. I learned a few things from it too. Thanks a bunch.

Im currently doing some bounty hunting in an upgraded SideWinder and doing great. I cannot stress enough how important it is to get Gimbaled weapons. And a better Power Distrubutor. With two gimbaled weapons and a new Power Distributor the SideWinder can do allot of damage.

First kill after getting Gimbal Pulse Lasers was a Cobra Expert that gave 18k CR in bounty. Nice hunting :)

Wow! This is an amazing getting started guide. It surely cleared up many confusing aspects about the game for me ... especially why the police would attack me after helping them get a wanted criminal. I found (and still find) this particular quirk of the game to be the most annoying and frustrating. I chase the bounty only to become the prime target and have to run away after nearly every bounty fight in non-anarchy systems. Also, it seems if the police attack you (and hit you) they DO NOT become wanted (this happens to me a lot) - they can attack at will and we cannot even respond or defend ourselves even if we're clean.

A lot of other good info here ... many thanks.

+1 Rep, some great info in there. Some things now are much clearer. I like the max pips to SYS/ENG/WEP work around, I intend to implement something along those lines with Power Grid.
