Horizons The Imperial Cutter

Ok got my Cutter yesterday (Sunday 15-10-2017) and I have to say I appeared to have wasted my time in 1/ ranking up to Duke. 2/ Spending 0.75 Billion CR in fitting out and Engineering it.

Plus Points of the Cutter.

It's Nice looking
It's Fast
Big Cargo Bay or Lots of passengers (what takes your fancy)
Great Jump Range.

Bad Points.

Very like a whale to move around.
Gun Mounts and options not good.
It stands up in a Fight I.e. if it is a single big ship, yea take it out with the plasma Gun.
She is not good enogh to deal with those damm Vultures. Oh so use the fighter. So me or my Pilot do just that. But cutter needs some weapons on the class 2 points to deal with the smaller ships sniping at it.

So I use the Corvette Cargo runs and Killing Nasties.
The Cutter as my passenger tansport and Liner. Which Other ships do better anyway. So conclusion is not to bother with Cutter. Stick with Corvette and use the Big Liner instead.

Sorry Guys But Have I got it wrong! or is that fair ?

I have had the Cutter for a couple of months now and I have to say that I don't really care for it. But, I am not a huge fan of the large ships anyway. I don't yet have the rank for the Corvette, but I own an Anaconda. I didn't like it either at first, but after flying it for about a month, it kinda grew on me. I am a good pilot, but not a very good combat pilot, so I would never consider taking the Cutter into a fight. It basically flies like the space cow, which is ponderously slow in a turn. The poor handling of the Conda and the Cutter really gets to me after a while, and I find myself back in a small or medium ship. With the new ships coming out, if I need extra credits for one, the Cutter is the only ship I own that I wouldn't mind selling.

The Conda is a great ship and is good all rounder once you are used to the way it flies. The Vette is like a Python only bigger. I like to think of it as a Big Boys Toy. I am glad I got the Cutter just to say I did it. But as to using it. I think not.

With a 792 ton capacity the Cutter is the cargo king (720 tons with a 6A shield).
It's also got a better jump range than the #covfefe and to top it off a better boost/cruise speed. Thruster speed affects earnings of cargo runs quite a lot.

Yea can not disagree. But I am a bit of a protection Nut so loosing the 8A shield for me is not an option. But even then with the vett I can make over 100 mil cr in a morning so trading is not the goal anymore. Maybe I have the game with the cutter Wrong.

Even without engineers you can get that 6A shield up to 1,138 MJ thanks to the eight utility slots. It's an unstoppable ship. Basic trading does seem like it's a lost (uh?) trade in our galaxy, with the ever increasing inflation to missions. But the cargo capacity per hour is still very useful for things like power play or community goals.
It's obviously true the Vette is a much better combat ship, as long as what you're shooting at isn't trying to run away. :D

Good Point Sir. My Corvette has a top speed of 320 which is OK. But if they Wanna run I have to jump into fighter play chase and give the vette chance to catch up. That usually works.

But I had not thought Powerplay. Emmm Good point thanks for the tip.
Must Go play Cheers for now.

You are a Genius. Maybe that is why you 3x Elite.

There are a couple of other plusses I'd add:

You can't be mass-locked by anything other than another Cutter
Fitted with a class-8 shield, it has 1.5x the shield strength of the Anaconda, and over 4x the shield strength of the Beluga, making for safe travels with equal or greater passenger capacity

You don't fly an A380 in combat do you?

Same applies to the Cutter. It's a elegant transport vessel for diplomatic reason. It's primary purpose isn't a combat ship, but rather a jack of all trades.

It has comfort and an attention to detail. In Elite it's the best cargo ship (Which is a disgrace, it should be an absolute ultra VIP transport ship paying crazy sums of money)

It's a great tank in combat if you get it setup right... but think more turrets than fixed, and suck up to Asling to ger her shields.
My fully armed and battle-ready Cutter has over 2k shields, military armor, 256t of cargo and still jumps 25Ly.

HAHA, just posted about the same thing!

Yeah she is a pig to turn, but I love it's cargo and speed...I am sorry but I love this ship. :)

gun mounts are actually pretty good, If you keep turrets on the shoulders and use gimballed size 3's you will have no problem. I have 2 main loadouts. either 1 size 4 PA in chin with assorted gimballed and turrets, or my current favourite, twin size 2 railguns with assorted weapons. very keen for Ihammers!

If handling is what you favour, try the corvette. I swear it handles better than some small ships. ;)

RAILGUNS in Elite D. are not what they should be. A railgun is a Sinper Weapon (as I am led to believe) But in Elite when Hit Fire Button it takes a few secs to go off. IT SHOULD BE PRE-CHARGED. Hit Fire BOOF of it goes.

Have to agree this is in fact what I now use her for. Also Someone mentioned about MASS LOCKED I did not know that. Intresting.

Actually these replies have really helped to focus Ideas Thanks again.

You're now flying the fattest combat ship in the game: you'll need to git gud, son.

You'll never overcome the iCutter's lumbering movements without some invested FA Off skills.

Trick is to keep the movements slow while you're starting out and focus on gimballed weapons until you can swing her around while keeping her steady.

We also have speed limits rather than g limits, explosions shouldn't work in space, the FSD would very likely kill us...but those would make for a rubbish game. Games are gamey for gamey reasons: the railgun would be even more OP without the charge-up.

In a way I have to agree. But from a weapon standpont it was wrong. Also is only a Game.[yesnod]

Ok you win that round. When I played an X-series Game that was what I loaded most of the time.[yesnod]

If it motivates you in any way, I spent some time with two railguns on my iCutter. Needs a little...je ne sais quoi to get reliable with them, but if you decide to invest time into the iCutter, you'll find that despite its dirty inertia issues the speed allows for some surprisingly effective lateral strafing. And strafing has been a strong component of sniping since the dawn of weapons in games...

After having had a Cutter for a long time, I decided to sell it.

- I don't do trading runs - can't imagine a more boring pastime. So no need for all that cargo space.

- Even with RNGineered FSD, after properly shielding and arming the jump range still isn't as good as my Conda.

- The Cutter spent most of its time in the garage, whilst I was out enjoying stuff in the Conda.

- many other reasons I can't be bothered typing.

In short, The Conda is all the ship I'll need in a big ship - I'm waiting on seeing what this upcoming Type-10 and the other new ships will be like.

As for Cutters - I might get another one sometime in the future. For now though, I can definitely live without it.
