Just posting here to say how confused I am about this colors change :S
Maybe I just got used to them, but previous colors kind of made sense.

Maybe it's the 50+ years of cold war conditioning (though I'm only 32) but, with the Federation being inspired by the US, seeing it listed in Red just seems dead wrong.

Heh, +1 indeed.

Also the 'Ships Parked' icon is now an angry red, rather than a nice pale blue.

Maybe they wanted to make it more noticeable, I dunno.... I'd say making it RED is too much.

IIRC in FE2 and FFE the military types you spoke to were in Blue uniform for the Feds and Red for Imperial. This change doesn't make sense.

Either that or my memories of the old games is inverted lol

For me red has always equalled imperialistic ideals, blue for the democratic types, ie. a federation or republic. The perfect example is Star Trek. Klingons, red= seen as bad guys but have ideals like honour, duty, and strength. Federation blue= presented as good guys, democratic, peaceful, and with personal freedom ideals. I don't see the Empire in ED as bad (since I'm a citizen of them and agree with their beliefs on most things) but its nice to see them as they have been since launch and portrayed as empires in our society have been. Its just easier to associate a quick colour for them in my brain. I look at the map now and I'm completely thrown off and confused. I would assume for Frontier it wouldn't be difficult to put in the ability for us to change the colours ourselves to match what we want on the map. Its not like it really matters to anyone else but ourselves, its a personal preference. Its not like were going to tell a friend to head to the nearest blue or red star system on your map, it doesn't make sense if we are speaking about allegiance because stars actually can be blue or red and that just causes confusion since we would just tell them the name of the system instead. I hope that makes sense to everyone on my meaning.

P.S. I didnt even notice that the stations colours matched the faction. I thought they were just all random. They don't have to match the map for that to matter anyways.

It reminds me of how in mass effect 3 they changed the alliance ships to be blue instead of red... why do we need to change the colors? I do agree with them , mostly tho. I belive the best cours of action would be to add the option to pick colours per faction?

It was very disorientating; I thought the whole political landscape had shifted while I was away. That being said, I'm more annoyed about the fact that they managed to break the galaxy map *and* the system map.

The system map shows the *previous* system, the first time I load it. Every. Single. Jump. And now, when you select the system map from your cockpit, it seems to freeze your head so you can't even see the loading screen.

Meanwhile, I keep getting that "can't select systems because the little pop up box disappears" issue in the galaxy map.

Uuuurgh.

How to change color of ship panels?

On youtube I see some people having blue ship LED's and stuff, is it just the ship he is using or is there an option somewhere? I'm stuck with orange.

I'm having that same issue as well. Hopefully they fix it soon. Its quite annoying.

Galaxy map faction colour(please change feds)

The colour that represents the Federation is, as most of us know, red. I can only assume that the reason the Federation was switched to red from blue and the Empire to blue from red, is because most of the player base seems to be Empire supporters. Only an assumption(based on forumers).

This is not an evil Empire or evil Federation debate thread, just a small roleplay aid request.

Whenever I'm wandering through the galaxy map I get the worst vibe from federation space, after all, the colour red is associated with anger or violence by most people.
Red is also usually the colour we associate with empires throughout human history. Which by the most part, have left bitter tastes in our mouths.
In my opinion, blue was perfect for the feds. Don't know why, it just seemed to fit the bill. Maybe Star Trek:rolleyes:

A more peaceful colour for them would be much appreciated.
What do you cmmdrs think? voice opinion below. Thx for reading.

Red is actually the people's colour. Roman "Republic" is red. Emperor is actually purple.

Also communist states, the "people", also use red.

Indeed, the station colours can be seen here
I remember voting in the poll asking for the change to match the Station Livery....

Anyway
You may say red is associated with anger and violent but it is also associated with Love depending on who you ask, red roses, the reds and pinks of valentines day etc.
I forget which ancient culture, Greek? Egyptian? Ascribed red being life, I know I use the pahrase ruddy meaning when someone's face having a healthy red colour after a run
Red Caps were also associated with the French Revolution for Liberté, égalité, fraternité

Never noticed the red trimmings on stations before, no doubt I will now though.

Federation, peaceful? You missed that Galnet story about them murdering refugees then, and bombing innocent farmers. Feds are evil man :)

Thank you for turning it into that kind of thread. The federation aren't evil, the people in power have no idea what happens on the "ground", they make calls that endanger the lives of innocent people while they have their morning coffee and hot showers. This holds true in our reality as well. Life is a book of an individuals' stories and perceptions. Something you learn after you serve.
