Don't worry, you still have Greg as High Lord of Render, and I'll still lurk here to argue with people in the 32-vs-64 threads, which is mainly what I've been doing recently anyway. Plus now I can come into the heated political topics without being seen as a company rep!
On topic, and without revealing anything that I don't think has already been said elsewhere at some point, I believe the GUI team have a "right way to do it" fix that just couldn't have been done in time for release, which would just get things the right colour to begin with, rather than having to clumsily tweak the result. They're a busy bunch though, hopefully one day they'll be free enough that they do it.

Kerenn > Well the question has already been pretty much answered : the team knows about the community's desire to have a color option, it's somewhere on the to-do list, it won't be in 1.3 since it hasn't been anounced. That's all we're going to get until FD chooses to make an official statement once they're ready to include it in an update.

HUD Colours
Like a few/many know you can change the hud colour in Elite: Dangerous.
After tweaking for half a hour i came up with something but I could only find this old thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=73419 so hopefully it's alright to make a new one
I wanted a nice blue schemes with some contrast because most of the blue schemes seems to lost contrast or turn friendly into red dots.
Got it so far that most things are blue, that friendly are green, neutral are light blue, enemies are dark blue and almost everything else is broken white and the highlights are close to the yellow/orange that is used in game.
My only hate are the colours in the space station menu
