I have to ask - HUD colors are such a useful and simple feature, why do we still have to edit our .inis just to do it? Shouldn't be too hard to implement an option for that.

That said I like your color scheme OP, it has good contrast.

In order to fully separate out the colors you have to use negative numbers, Sorry i am not able to fully demonstrate at the moment but I have an old snip, Using negative numbers lets you separate out the three color codes used for the UI.

i change my hud colours like the wind lol.....but always go back to the orange...but i dimm it down a bit.

basiccly have the same blue hud as you op,but mine has orange and white as the other colours.....like a reverse version of the default

I don't mind the default but I don't like the blueish tinge to the white so I make it more pure and also a tad bit more orange.

I just use the default. Prolly gonna stay that way unless if they add in an official way to do it, and let you pick certain bits to change, instead of changing everything if you just want one part to change.

here is my inverted HUD if anyone is interested

<MatrixRed> -0.41, 0.43, 1 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> 0.5, 1, 0.58 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 1, -0.16, -0.45 </MatrixBlue>

sorry i don't got any screen atm, but it should not be too hard to picture it

Colored radar icons and target holo for first time - why?

Something new just happened and I'm not sure why - in my play so far since starting this week, all the target icons show on my radar when I'm just cruising around - not in combat - was in orange, matching most the orange layout of the HUD.

The currently selected target, like say a space station, was also in hud matching colors.

But i went to a new system today, in archon delaine territory - 34 Pegasi - and when I dropped out of SC, I was surprised to see my radar was full of green target icons, some yellow target icons, and the space station in a brilliant green outline.

Also, the HUD label for range to the space station which is usually in orange, was now also in this bright green.

I am not pledged to any PP, and I only see this change in target coloring in this one system so far - of the 137 systems visited in my stats, only this 1 system shows this weird color change - and it just started today. I've visited before plenty of times yesterday and it wasn't like this.

Any idea why this is so? And what it means?

the green colours should be friendlys mate...and the green station means its also freindly towards you.......its all good.

Your reputation went up
Friendlies show up as green.
Colours range from red (hostile) to green (friendly/allied)
If the target icon is hollow then that indicates a player

The green station means you are friendly with them (or possibly allied). You say you've visited this station often so presumably you've traded there or cashed in bounties or something - the more you do in a station the friendlier they'll become.

The red/green/orange colour coding they are still using (despite accepted and known accessibility issues) is rather annoying to us colour "challenged"...

Red - enemy
Blue - friendly
Yellow, white etc.

Something new just happened and I'm not sure why - …

That brings back memories. Like you I got confused about the sudden change in sensor contacts colors after a few days of playing Elite. And imagine my surprise when somebody told me what hallow squares or triangles mean on the sensor*. It was a fun time.

*) Just in case you don't know: these are human players

Thanks for all the replies, not just this one. So much to learn in this huge game.

And you're right, my rep did go up - I didn't know I had a local rep per world/system as well as the major factions. All my major factions still say neutral, but under system factions, I now see it says this system is now friendly to me.

But bit confused, happily so, how that happened. Definitely like that it did, but it seems counter intuitive because all I've ever done in this system is break their laws :)

This is one end point of a run I do with my back and forth trades of smuggling illegal stuff into this now-friendly station, buy their legal stuff to take back to my other end of illegal goods supply.

So it seems they've rewarded me to friendly status for smuggling in illegal slaves over and over lol.

Now if you get friendly or allied with a spread of minor factions, your major faction status will improve.
Lots of allied Empire minor factions will lead to becoming friendly in the whole Empire. Then EVERY Imperial station will be green to you.
Or do the same for Federation or Alliance if that's your preference.
