Best hud colour changes that still retain clear freind or foe colours

Hello all,

I have from time to time tinkered with the HUD colouring after being sick of orange everywhere however always end up resetting it as FoF identification becomes an issue.

I like a very clear green and red. Other variations would be ok, like blue and red however.

Can anyone suggest a good set of colour parameters that changes the main hud elements from orange but retains very clear FoF id?

Thank you in advance.

Use negative numbers in your scheme and it will greatly separate out the three colors, at work so can;t demonstrate. Search the forums there are some other threads with the same info.

I kinda like my 80's miami vice Hud. Older pic below(pink=friends, cyan=enemies).

It's not for everybody but the color contrast is definitely there :p

I could never overcome the loss of certain color nuances when customizing HUD colors. Even when I was using that guy's super convenient tool, which instantly showed you the resulting colors of the settings you set on his web page.

I tried to get violet / purple to work, green, I tried to fade orange to white without loosing all the other color differentiation and it didn't work.

My conclusion is, that the color adjustment method of the HUD is simply too limited to customize it to taste, as any change to one color will unavoidably force other changes to certain other colors.

For some time, I thought if I just got the right combination of numbers, I might get an alternative to the default without drawbacks, but no cigar.

Who knows, maybe something new will pop up in your thread, that would be cool :D

That looks pretty decent, though I can't see what the other notifications look like and that message that destination lock is ready...

Can you post the numbers for that one?

Woops yes, my bad, here you go:
Code:
            <MatrixRed> 0, 0.4, 0.6 </MatrixRed>
            <MatrixGreen> 1, 0, 0 </MatrixGreen>
            <MatrixBlue> 0.5, 0, 0.5 </MatrixBlue>

Can you actually get the yellow to be white, without the rest turning to pink and blue?

I remember seeing this on the really old thread on how to change the colours. My issue is, You say enemies are cyan... but the whole hud is cyan so it lacks the clarity I am looking for, despite the fact that it looks very nice.

I just went back to the default; generally the issue is that even if you get decent colors for FOF ID, you can't see the target reticle against the sun. The default has proven to be be best for visibility in all environments.

This is mine, friendlies cyan, enemies red. I'd prefer the green to be a bit less yellowy, but it starts affecting the red enemies if you change it.

I keep switching between a soft green/clear green/deep orange combo and a dark red/clear green/clear blue combo:

Well thank you for your input, however it seems what I want is not possible with the way the XML files work.

In effect you cannot unbind the orange hud elements for the red, green and blue (enemy, friendly, shields). If you change the red values you change it across the board and I cannot come up with a colour set the works.

In order to do what I want the orange hud elements would need to pull colour values separately from the other hud elements letting you say have a green or blue hud but with enemies, friendly and shields all in there default colours.

I have the Cool Blue HUD, which looks so much more appropriately futuristic and shiny... but it's not what you're looking for, since friendlies are green, hostiles are the same blue as the HUD, and neutrals are white.

Oh, and I too wish I didn't have to reset it every update.

Check my Combat Green preset :)

I've been using mine for awhile now. It retains the original orange theme, but changes allies to light blue, objects as green, planets are purple, enemies are red. The theme is slightly darker than stock as well.
