I used to trade in a 240ton fight fit Python, would always submit, and then fight if I felt I had a chance. I traded up to a 400ton fight fit Anaconda, have yet to be Interdicted, but will apply the same logic as with my Python, fight if i feel i have a chance, or boost.. boost.. SC.. if i feel i dont.

For me it was:
Sidey - Fight, nothing to lose.
Hauler - Run away.
Cobra - Fight.
T6 - Run away.
Asp - Fight.
T7 - Run away.
Clipper - Fight.
Phython - Fight.
T9 - Craaaaawwwll away, very slowly.

Should have enough for an Anaconda in a few days so back to fighting to save my cargo.

The Anaconda is so cool to fly Dude, and so worth the lengthy grind! For me, it was like taking my 2 favourite ships, the Type 9 and the Python, cross breeding them, and rearing the offspring on Ambrosia! (not the earthly rice pudding or custard variety)

Yep, that.
Tried pirating a few times now, always got disappointed.
Either they 'disappear' *cough* or they run, run, run (and die) instead of dropping some of their dozens of tons of cargo.
Increasing speed to avoid being pirated is a real life recommendation :

Pirating is a harsh style of life and most pirates never succeed, why do you think most pirates are poor peoples which have nothing to loose ?

Me in type9 open play no weapons..
Against NPC s I run
Against the humble role playing pirate I drop cargo
Against the no so nice terrorist I die

Totally depends on what you're in vs what your interdictor is in.

As a general rule with what I've flown so far:

Hauler, T6 & T7 = Run (submit to interdiction then 4 pips to engines and boost - I always fly these ships with A class distributors for this reason)
Sidey, Cobra & Asp = fight if I think I can win - strongly dependent on what the interdictor is flying
Vulture & Viper = Fight

Depends if I think I can win the fight or not, of course. Why would I fight if I think I will lose? And would would I run if I think I could win?

There's no fixed rule, the answer depends on the circumstances.

This

But also to add can depend on "real life" as well

When I start playing I will fight - when I'm on my "last trip before i log off" even in my super duper combat ship against a non shielded sidie with a 150k bounty I'll probably run. Im more scared of the wife than I am the sidewinder!

Run every time. It's how I decided to play the game, Except for sometimes a mining laser I fly unarmed. I would like to see something , like the space-going equivalent of a nitro-booster, that people who do not want to take part in combat can equip to the unused hard points to give them a better chance of escaping. Very expensive, one shot per hard point but gives a massive duration boost.

Depends on my ship and what's on my tail. If it's a ship I think I can take, or one that I can maybe take but it's worth enough for me to try, I fight. Otherwise I'm negotiating for a little cargo or outta there.

If they are too greedy in negotiations that tilts me more towards "fight" than it probably should if I were being strictly objective :)

Well I'm not a trader but in my experience as a pirate, 65% of all traders run, 30% just log off, and 5% fight back.

That's only including the people who resist, not the ones who drop cargo without a fight or have no cargo at all.

If you are a trader and get interdicted do you fight or run. I run a type 7 transport and I was wondering what other people do. I can easily run from the fight, but if I loaded up with weapons I could make some money on the side by killing the pirate and collecting the bounty.

First I have to say I currently do not play open anymore since wings has been introduced.
In open against pc I would be much more careful.

When I was in a T-7 I felt it was smarter to run.
Now I am in an armed to the teeth Python and I never run and have never lost a ship either.
I sacrificed cargo space for pure power and 3 C3 beams are devastating weapons.
Getting interdicted just means extra fun and extra money.

If a player, Submit, give cargo, hope they aren't psycho, go on my merry way.
If NPC, kill kill kill, go on my merry way.

Why?, Chicken? Don't understand this drop cargo and run attitude, why should they have it! run if you want to, stop and fight, protect your cargo, see how u get on, then make decision on how fight is going, run if you need too!!

Given what I said earlier, it's a reasonable conclusion that your experience may be directly related to your selection of victims, where only five percent of your selected victims feel they have a chance of winning in a fight. If you want to have a higher percentage of people fighting back, limit your attacks to tougher, more combat oriented victims.

Good luck fighting a combat-equipped ship in your cargo-equipped ship. Even the same ship will still be weaker since all trader ships drop their shields a class or two.

If it gets to the point where the fight is going poorly, then running is no longer an option.
