I play solo so I only have NPC's to deal with.

In my T6 and my T7 it depends on the level of the pilot and what they are flying. Anything up to a novice in something like a Cobra and I'll fight, same goes with any NPC up to dangerous in a Viper or Eagle or other small ships. A good pilot or a really powerful ship like a Vulture and I'll run. Although, in my T7, I have taken out one unshielded novice Python for a 47K bounty and had another unshielded novice Python FSD out with 20% hull.

However, T7 shields are crap, it really needs a bigger shield because the standard one is one size too small for the mass but fitting a larger one means losing 16 cargo. No real biggie but I don't get interdicted that much to bother about it really.

Given what I said earlier, it's a reasonable conclusion that your experience may be directly related to your selection of victims, where only five percent of your selected victims feel they have a chance of winning in a fight. If you want to have a higher percentage of people fighting back, limit your attacks to tougher, more combat oriented victims.

Fair enough, but since I'm in a clipper it's hard to find a ship that is both a trade ship and tougher than me for a fight. The python is really the only combat capable ship I can both mass lock and out matches me. Even then, most of the pythons I see are not trade ships.

Pre 1.1 when missiles and torpedo's worked against shields, I would be happy to fight in a T9, Now I just boost, dump chaff and charge the FSD.

In my Conda I never get interdicted by cmdr's. Against NPC's, it's funny watching ships fire on my Conda, it doesn't even have shields, the ship just shrugs it off and jumps. Tiny repair bill when I dock.

What happened to "Parley"?

What i do? Depends on how i am approached... A friendly pirate gets containers, one with inappropriate behavior gets ordnance. Oh... And those who think a logoff might save them get a report.

If it's an NPC and I'm in a combat ship, kill it and be on my way.
If it's a player and I'm in a combat ship, stay for a while and run if needed.
If I'm trading run every time. To fill my T7 takes at least 1 million credits. So if you shoot me I lose 2 million credits.

Yep, that.
Tried pirating a few times now, always got disappointed.
Either they 'disappear' *cough* or they run, run, run (and die) instead of dropping some of their dozens of tons of cargo.

> People are stupid <

"Hey, you there, gimme your golden watch or die!"
"No, armed robber at gun-point range who can end my existence in a split second, I rather try and run away because I don't care about dying thanks to Braben's Vision™ where dying has zero consequences and my newly arranged care-bear-all-inclusive-insurance pays for my life, ship and golden watch, ha!"

Duh. -.-

PvP piracy is basically non-existent anymore due to solo-care-bear-try-hard-must-farm-money-traders and some occasional encounters that usually go like mentioned above (which is frustrating and not worth the hassle).

Awesome game design, really.

It's not necessarily stupidity - sometimes people are just totally unprepared as I was a couple of weeks ago.

I had successfully fought off interdictions or avoided getting too close in SC since launch - in open including often being around the "home" systems (Lave etc.).

And I hadn't any player combat since alpha - when I had quite a lot.

So when I wasn't paying attention in my Anaconda I got jumped by a slightly notorious pirate (he puts videos up of people that he believes "Loggoffski" - needless to say I'm not there coz I didn't).

It went something like this;

Interdiction - "where did that come from???" err, try and fight it - failed

Me - "How much does he want?" - expecting comms..

Pirate (in Asp) - starts firing - no comms initially

Me - Plan B - umm go for the brave Sir Robin or fight? Ahh - what weaps group am I in???

Me - "sod it, leggit" fire-up SC - hit some shield boosters (forgot about chaff) and ran away in a straight'ish line (yes I know..)

Pirate - makes demand for cargo

Me- "sod that, I'm nearly away" frantically trying to line up to jump (so I ignore comms)

At this point it starts going sideways very fast so I jab out "OK" on comms

Pirate stops firing

I dump a load of cargo - don't mark it as stolen.

Pirate sends a surprised sounding "Thanks very much!"

This is when I realise my thrusters are out - check for AFM unit - oops! No option but self destruct - 6 mill plus down the pan..

And it turns out I'd taken my shield cell bank off as well as the AFM unit.

So - didn't expect to get interdicted - didn't have a plan for when it happened - indecision over whether to fight or flight - didn't have a clue how my weapons were setup - didn't have the defensive measures I thought I had - forgot I'd taken out the AFM unit.

Apart from that it was a great performance on my part..

I know much better now - in fact the very same guy interdicted me a few days later twice in succession - got it right that time - escaped with minor damage.

So I was woefully unprepared - but not really stupid in the context of my previous experience. If I hadn't had one eye on Lave Radio chat on another PC I'd probably have avoided it.

If the pirate had made a demand first I'd have taken that option..

Still - learned a good lesson and now I know what I'm doing.

Well, you've chosen one of the most capable combat ships around, so you shouldn't be surprisrd if 95% of people you interdict attempt to avoid the fight in whatever ways possible. If you want a higher degree of retaliation from your victims, don't present such a threat.

I tried fighting back a few times, but the fight takes too long and I have business to attend to.
I eventually run away since I can't outdps the pirate and it becomes pretty clear that my shields will continue to go down.

I don't run away because I'm a pansie or I don't like violence. I run away because of the time and money invested in the ship and cargo.
And the "experience" the pirate is giving me, that "content" is not worth risking my assets.

When I'll get a nicely fitted combat ship, I'll gather a few friends and go on a pirate hunt. Its a promise :)

Usually, I straightforwardly fight to the death on principle.

But sometimes, if I'm feeling unusually poetic, I meekly drop a few canisters of cargo, open fire while the pirate's concentrating on trying to scoop, and then scoop it back up myself if it's still around after the fight... :p

Ha well I'm a pirate so if I can get more cargo through intimidation than fighting, that's fine by me. Besides, I can always fight a bounty hunter when I feel like it.

Even if I did downgrade my ship, the number of combat-oriented trade ships are few and far between. I see way more no weapon asps, than I do heavily armed ones. Most of the asps I think are combat traders just turn out to not have any cargo.

In my T6 and then my T7 I ran. Bought a Python a couple of days ago.

Only been interdicted once since then, he did not last long!

Mine must be the exception... A grade shields, beams and MC's, chaff, armour etc. Haven't bothered with shield cells or shield/hull boosters though. I don't strictly just trade though... about 1/3 my income is hunting.

Interdicting Someone You're Allied With

If I see a ship that is WANTED, but that is also from a faction I'm allied with, will I lose rep with that faction if I kill him?
