400cr from an interdiction? Even a lowly Sidewinder usually nets me 2,000cr+ without any bonuses from a Kill Warrant Scan? Vipers can be 50k with KWS, Asps 100k? Am I missing something? Are you talking about PowerPlay interdictions?

*Edit* OK, If you were damaged in the fight that would eat into the profits. I'd suggest running, or as you say, not getting interdicted, till you're in a ship that can handle itself. I generally deliberately submit to interdictions as I view them as the game fiving me free cash. :)

powerplay interdictions...200C if I interdict and kill, 400C if they interdict and get killed. Its ridiculous so I don t bother anymore

Pretty much the reason why I don't bother to even target them - waste of time - just charge drive and return to SC.

Interdiction

Hi All,

Is it customary for ships with Interdiction fitted, to attack and destroy, other ships that are ratted as harmless, and clean, ?

Just doesn't seem right especially if you are a beginner/newcomer to the game.

I'm afraid it is...

If it's an NPC that attacks you, at least you know there's no malice involved. Try to escape if you're not comfortable fighting, and if you fail the interdiction, try and boost away and FSD away, NPCs probably won't follow you.

If it's a player that interdicts you (again, they are within their rights as far as the game goes), then either try to get away, or stay in Solo until you feel more confident. There are also PvE groups, such as Mobius, where players cannot attack players.

Some players might find it distasteful to attack players harmless sidewinders, but there's no rules against it. It's not customary, but as with any game there's always a subset of players that will intentionally attack newbies.

As for npcs, they attack without regard for rank or ship power. Although I think they are at least somewhat leveled to you.

Anyone without the "Cmdr" tag in front of their name is an npc. So in game My name would show up as Cmdr Jordan Cobalt, but an npc version of me would show up as just Jordan Cobalt.

Edit: Duh you meant the word "npc" sorry it's pretty late here :D NPC = Non-Player-character

And this is why we can't just all have fun together. :(

*facepalm*

Good tip. You will also note that on the scanner thingy real commanders will show as hollow squares or triangles. NPCs are filled.

Loupy,

Please don't let a bad experience push you away from open.

If you wish, there are a number of CMDRs, myself included, who are more than willing to spend a little time with you in-game. I'm often patrolling one of the starter systems, looking for those who would prey and on the new.

If you're interested PM me you CMDR name, current system and play times (included timezone) and If I'm around, I can help.

The game itself is about £40 so my basic idea of maths says about 27 quid after the discount is applied. I'm certain a few weeks after release it'll be a bit cheaper.

Can you avoid interdiction?

So i havne't been interdicted by an NPC in forever. In fact, the only time they ever actually stop me is when i'm bounty hunting and i let them so i can kill them and take the bounty. But i just had the most frustrating experience in Sothis. I dont mind pirating, i think the risk makes this game fun, which is why i logged on in open to do the CG. as soon as i enter the system i get interdicted and even though i kept my ship lined up with the escape vector the entire time, i just watched the red side keep filling up. i kept my ship centered in the escape vector for 95% of the time i was being interdicted and there was absolutely no way of escaping. like i said, i like the risk, but if there is no possibility of escape then whats teh point of playing in open? so now logged off to do the CG in solo, but decided that was lame, so i just left Sothis entirely to look for something else to do. I'm mainly just frustrated because i can't find any good explanations of how interdiction works or what variables go into making it successful or not. obviously just keeping lined up isn't the only key, so does class of the interdiction module factor? if so how much and does that just mean its impossible to escape a high class interdiction module? the in game description is less than helpful

FD has tweaked the interdiction mini game to where the combat rank of the NPC plays a larger factor (better piloting) as well as beefing up the NPC module upgrades as well which includes better class and size interdictors. The red side of course indicates the progress of the person interdicting you or being interdicted, the blue side is your progress. I have found that keeping it centered is a slow steady progress of the blue side, whereas if I quickly cross the center of the vector back and forth as quickly and finely tuned as I can that the progress of the blue side is greatly improved which allows me to escape or interdict majority of the time... However, with the new FD tweak it is more difficult, and in several related threads in the past the majority believe that the interdictor has the advantage. I don't know if having a better class/size interdict or module improves your chances of escaping or not. The other factor in the interdiction process is speed... But that mainly helps get fine tuned into the center... Dunno if increasing and decreasing throttle during mini game while being interdicted would screw up their fine tune or not but it's something I'll be experimenting with. Finally, try heading towards the nearest star if you are close enough, I've been able to lose them by heading straight towards it then last minute pulling up and around while they either plunge into it or emergency drop... But you're right, it has gotten more difficult, especially in beta/gamma... There was a recent gamma update this past week that listed the interdiction process being balanced out more, I'm hoping that improves the pendulum.
