To be honest with how random and varied each interdiction is (this is not a complaint of the mechanics, merely the nature of interdictions) it is very hard to gauge anything, but it would be very helpful to know (hear from a dev) if throttle position does indeed have an effect (other than simply shutting throttle to submit). With the very fact one uses the 'shut throttle' to submit almost suggests throttle IS/COULD BE a crucial part of the interdiction mini-game to help in the evasion, but getting clarification from a dev on this would be very helpful.

I'm presuming we now know the class/rating of the interdictor has a bearing (makes sense), but no one seems to know for sure if the throttle itself does anything (let alone pips) other than submitting [???] (unless this has been said somewhere already and I've simply missed reading it)

edit: we don't want to know/advertise the secrets to evading interdictions, simply knowing the rules in the first place will enable us to learn and experiment.

I would be happy to receive some sort of comparison tool. For example two even competent Commanders flying two Pythons with a 4A should have an even chance. What if one flies with a 4D and the other with a 3A? What makes the biggest difference? And what with Python 4A against an Eagle 2B? Does throttle matters? Does latency matters? Size does matter - but that's a different subject :p ... But give us something we can chew on Devs .. Please?

Interdictions is now RNG !! How the hell can't a Fed Assult Ship or a Python make an interdiction on a Adder?? Well, undermining is a NO GO, missions that require you to perform interdictions are a NO GO!! And people say "adapt and other stuff???) Well adapting means trade and hope you don't get interdicted!! Shame!!!

Just jump into a ship that's meant for interdicting in the first place *shrug* - problem solved.

I'm quite new to the game, and really found a lot of fun in the settings in 1.3... The only thing I could've used, were more players in instances...isn't it possible to make an instance containing everoyne in a system instead of one for almost every player out there?

The game has unfortunately turned into: Elite:Interdiction..... That what I spend most of the time with now, gettng back into "the game" after being ripped out by something I've completely lost interrest in finding out how works....

I wanted to try a lot of new stuff, but the game has simply become way to tedious/timeconsuming, I can't interdict, having to spend half an hour to get just one right, and the rest of the time getting hull ripped open and waiting to get back in the game cause my interdiction failed, to try a new one.

The wait where you sit alone and let the FSD cool down to get into it again, is actually the worst.

I don't care, bring in the ability to hire wingmen, so you'll have a igthing chance as a hauler, and make the interdictions against BOTs easier, so I don't wanna blow my head of and kill whomever invented this piece of c...

Elite:Interdiction - very good :)

Its interesting that no patch to fix this interdiction mess has come out yet, so that can only mean FDev are taking their time and working very hard to fix the problem - right....right....

To me its one thing to consider IF they will tweek it in 1.4.1 and respond to player feedback.

Its another and is more troubling than the tyranny of 1.4, the fact that someone green lighted this in the first place!

Will this same thing happen to horizons? ...If not, is that same tyranny in it now? If not now, in the updates to follow downstream?

Like really.

Is that you being funny?? Tell me then, what ships in ED are meant to be just for interdictions? I sure as hell would like to know!! Your reply was a nice contribution to the discussion that the grownups are trying to have!! But hey, it takes all kinds!!!

Cheers

During the beta test for 1.4 it was reported that interdictions were too difficult. The ChangeLog for 1.4 says: "- Decreased the time the highest end AIs spend "on" the interdiction vector to make them a little easier". But apparently they didn't decrease that 'time spent "on" the interdiction vector' enough. It'll be fixed "soon" I expect.
.
Yesterday I went out in a small ship (Viper) and later in a bigger ship (FAS), both with a 2D FSDI, to see how big an influence ship mass and pilot rank have on interdictions. My results were mixed. Lower ranked, heavier ships were somewhat easier most of the times. But in both the Viper and the FAS I lost interdictions to lower ranked NPCs in heavier ships. The blue bar sometimes would not even stop falling during periods I managed to keep the marker steady on the target. One case was especially remarkable: I interdicted an Orca ranked master while flying the Viper (I'm ranked dangerous) expecting it to be easy, but instead the Orca won. First it manoeuvred heavily giving me a hard time getting the marker on it, but then it stopped manoeuvring completely and despite I kept the marker dead centre on the Orca the red bar filled in 5 seconds and it was gone. My preliminary conclusion is that there is more to interdictions than just rank and ship mass. More experimentation needed.

I didn't experience the interdiction/evasion bug/improvement in beta 1.4 which strongly suggests how it is now is bugged. And if not, it makes me wonder what was the bloody point of beta at all?

I've been playing ED since original beta, and this has stopped me playing, and whilst the change/bug has its supporters, even the most facile flick through the forums says there are many for whom this is ruining the game.

For me it seems obvious that interdiction/evasion needs dialling back.

That we've yet to see any patch from FDev is causing me concern as I wonder if this is a direct effect of having the XBOX now live. If XBOX imposes a delay in FDevs ability to patch, then beta becomes hugely more important.

Honestly, all in all, very disappointed.

This is actually worse from my point ot view, if reported in beta and effectively ignored, then I repeat, what was the point of beta?

Very poor.

It wasn't ignored as shown by the remark in the ChangeLog, but their adjustment didn't improve the situation enough. If memory serves me right I think during beta interdictions were tweaked at least once before beta ended. Can't remember if it was reported OK then.

Very Dissapointed.

I'm very disappointed in Frontier in what they done on Interdiction settings now in 1.4. I'm 62 years old and do not have the best eyesight anymore and Elite has been my favored game since commodore 64 days. I love the powerplay idea and have been trying to make merits by intericting ships. now for me it is almost impossible for me to do this. This was an major part of my love for this game but now its gone. I went out and bought an Alienware Area 51 System and X52 joystick with voiceattack installed just because of this game. I have allways been interested in space. I remember setting in front of the tv and watching the moon landing and wanted to work for NASA. I know ED is probably the only way that I can experience what it is really like to explore and that is why I love the game. Now half of my game enjoyment is gone. I guess when my merits are gone I'm dome with powerplay.

I'll team up with you and interdict for you.

Great to hear someone of your life experience and wisdom playing games/this game, I'm 43 and considered myself an old timer, no where near of course ;-), but if the change in the interdiction mechanics really are that bad I'm positive Frontier will make changes, they are usually very receptive to feedback. Either that or we simply need to re-learn our techniques to get good at interdictions as they are now. I was hopeless at interdictions when they first appeared in-game, so give it time to see if one of these things happen.
