It will if you download the control software, but if you do that you will need to start a profile, goto advanced view, delete all the shiftstate modes and then set the pinkie to unprogrammed. You can now use the ministick on the throttle as well when you do this.

Joy 6 on my X52 is not working in game, the driver control panel is recognizing it and showing it is working but in game it wont let use it, which means I have to reach to shift for the focus change. tried remapping but it is not recognized at all, this was working in the combat tutorial but now not in game =(, anyone with suggestions?

Try the beginning of this very informative thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=26644

It's a step by step guide (with pics) to getting everything to work. I think you may need to set the pinky (and a few others) to unprogrammed. Follow that and you should be OK.

Edit: oops Yabba pointed out the unprogrammed bit before me.

I've got an Saitek X52 which is great. Hardly have to touch keyboard or mouse at all. The catch is it's a tad pricey. That aside it looks like the Thrustmaster HOTAS X is the budget 'stick of choice. If you really want to throw money around then maybe an X55 or something from CH?

Playing with keyboard/mouse is quite easy (and can be quite precise), but I wouldn't want to try dogfighting using them!

I mapped keys and fiddled with keyboard and mouse for almost a full 30 minutes back in Beta 1.0, then dusted off (literally) an old Thrustmaster Fox 2 Pro or something-or-other I had sitting around from my Jumpgate days. 7-button stick with throttle on the base, not a HOTAS 2-piece. Zero trouble mapping, works great. Never looked back. You should be able to find an equivalent product out there for a reasonable price... good for immersion as well as better flight control.

This modern product looks very similar: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826280014
Priced at US$32 as a benchmark. Budget, definitely, but likely to be entirely adequate.

Noob here! Just got ED today. I have a Thrustmaster Hotas. I've never used a PC joystick before.

I've downloaded some .binds files from here put them in the ED/options/bindings folder. But when I go to the game and options/controls they do not show up in there.

Are they for old versions of ED? Or have I put them in the wrong place? Can anyone point me in the direction of a binds file that will work with the 1.0 version?

Running windows 8 if that makes any difference?

Help thanks!

Just found this error log in my folder:

There where errors when loading preset file: TFlight_HOTAS_X_TrackIR.binds
Failed to find semantic: UI_Back

So I assume I am using an incorrect/old binds file anyone point me in the direction of one that will work please?

That one I presume only works if you are using a head tracker as well.

I'm using the setup for the T-Flight that's featured on page 178 of Forger's Unofficial User Guide (which is unbelievably brilliant). Link to thread - >>https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=34437<<

It's one that uses button 3 as a shift to double the number of functions mapped and is quite logically laid out.

Thrustmaster T1600M and Voice Attack for all sorts of commands like Request Docking (saves numerous key/button pushes and even starts playing my docking music), works very well for me.

Thank you!

I've created a GitHub repository containing my updated joystick maps and config files if people are interested. There's installation instructions and a fairly comprehensive breakdown of the setup. It's for a Fighterstick and Pro Throttle, although it would be easy enough to update to add Pedals.

Can I just say that I love what you have done here? Totally awesome, it makes all the difference to actually be able to play the game.

Big hat tip, thank you! :)

Did you plug it in before or after starting the game? It used to not recognise any controller you added after start (you are now meant to be able to add controllers after the game starts but this might not be all)

You might be able to find a default HOTAS set up in the list even if it's not your exact model.
There are only two options on the drop down its keyboard and mouse and the advanced version.

I've been in flight sims for the past 20 years. I used several Thrustmaster HOTAS from F16 FLCS to the Cougar. Having stopped modern jets I am now in WW1 and WW2 planes (besides FSX). For the recent years I have used the Logitech Extreme 3D pro but after some time it starts wobbling in the center position (used two already). I have now switched to a Thrusmaster T16000 M which I find a lot more precise. Using the same hall effect sensors than the Warthog, it has no potentiometers which solves the wear problem of the Logitech.

One more vote for the Thrustmaster T-Flight X. For the money it is exceptional value and works perfectly with ED. save the money you would otherwise spend on an expensive HOTAS and put it towards a TrackIR setup instead.

I use a CH Fighterstick and ProThrottle. Has a great number of options in its software. As opposed to many who use the Saitek my CH setup has never had to be remapped since I started early B2. Not sure why that is unless Saitek uses something other then DX mode. Once I mapped all the buttons and axis in game the only thing I had to do once was remap the FSD options when FD changed them...again. Best bet is to get what ever fits your budget. Not sure if the Saitek throttles have a little mini thumb stick, but it comes in real handy.

Absolutely, its a must have device.
After he gets a hotas. With the hotas he can use the POV hat to look around while he gathers the funds for a OR instead of the TIR. Just wish FD would implement a Padlock for your target, would help those without a OR/TIR have some kind of awareness.

If you want an unreasonably priced joystick, go for a Warthog HOTAS. You'll literally never touch the keyboard again. Come on, it's Christmas - you must be able to persuade some mug.. sorry, some loved one to buy you one!
