Having said that - if it's a new PC, I'd first spend time running updates, installing an antivirus, updating sound and graphic and chipset drivers before starting to game on the thing :)

Alternatively, spend time installing updates, then removing Norton / McAfee, and all other assorted crapware that inevitably comes on a new PC that serves only to slow it down. It's a gaming PC after all. ;)

Then once you have a clean system, install what you need... including an anti-virus.

And Gameshark / Madkatz are a joke. I ordered an X52 Pro while the website was showing they had one in stock. After over a week of complete silence -- including attempts to email them -- I called them (which redirects to their technical support team in Europe) and it turns out that I've been put on the backorder list. They were unable to tell me when they expect stock because they're technical support and not sales, and you can't contact sales directly!

I decided against cancelling because I'm not sure they'd know how, and I *should* get first dibs on the next lot of stock. I certainly won't be ordering from them again, though. :)
And now they've cancelled my order! Amazing... :D

Overclockers are due to have some in stock any time now - could try their.

I believe Amazon are waiting for a delivery (so they tell my brother).

Does seem to be a run on the X52 pro at the moment!

Your best bet is to download and install the drivers ahead of time, you'll find them on the Saitek site. Reboot, and when the stuff arrives, plug the joystick into the throttle with the round cable, and the throttle into your PC with the USB cable.

From there, go into the Saitek control panel and disable Clutch mode (this will let you use the (i) button), set the LED's to your preferences, and save the profile. Load the profile, fire up Elite, choose the X52 Pro profile in-game in the controls section, and off you go! Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure you plug the X52 into a USB port and then run the setup as the software detects the controller during installation.

If you plug it in without installing the Saitek drivers first, you end up with a different set of drivers that have some functionality disabled - no MFD display or pinkie button.

You then have the hassle of uninstalling those and putting the correct ones in, at least in my experience.

I found this stick on EBay and it still works great. I'm going to be using the same stick for Elite D that I did for the original. :) I'll probably try a new one too but I'll have a hard time topping this.

I used to have one of those joysticks.

Anyway, anyone use rudder pedals? How do they plug into the system? Do they plug into the HOTAS or the PC directly? How's installation and performance?

Thanks.

A question about a joystick and Elite Dangerous alpha bug reporting.

I recently added the alpha to my second-round beta pledge. I have a newly purchased Logitech extreme 3-D Pro joystick.

I think I am experiencing a bug, but I wanted to ask here first. The alpha does not appear to be responding to the throttle axis correctly. It seems to behave in a full or nothing manner. I have checked its functionality with both the built in Windows calibration tool and the software that comes with the joystick. Both demonstrate that the throttle is gradual as it should be.

If this is indeed a bug I am experiencing, could somebody please point me to some information describing how to correctly report a bug for the elite dangerous alpha please.

Hi and welcome aboard. If you have Alpha, you should get access to the Alpha forum.
You'll probably need to email/PM Ashley Barley for that though - it can take a day or so.

Hi there. Ashley can definitely help you. The first thing he'll probably ask is whether (and if so how) you have your joystick configured. Also, have you checked the Alpha forum for a thread covering your stick? There are several but you may need to hunt for it a bit...

I've got some Saitek Rudder Pedals. They are USB, just plug in and they come up as a controller option axis like any other joystick. Work exactly the same as the real thing in an aircraft when I use em in MS Flight Sim, i.e. offer both rudder control and toe brakes. Take up quite a lot of room under your desk and you have to secure them to the floor to stop em moving when you apply foot pressure. Worth it if you are used to real aircraft controls, but otherwise a joystick with a twist function will do the job as well.

Thanks to Cody and Andy who replied. I sent a request for access to the alpha forum to the person you indicated. I will see what I said about that joystick there when I have access. It seems to be a common problem with this joystick, apparently. I found this after doing a little bit more digging. The throttle does function correctly though it just seems that some games interpret it as a button rather than an axis.

How do you have your throttle bound? It should be the Throttle Axis. Do you have throttle range set to full range or forward only?

Do you have any devices on the throttle axis? The current Alpha only sees one device at a time, so for instance if you have a device on the Joy Z axis all other Z axis connected to the PC will also be bound to the same axis, so if you see "Throttle Axis: Joy Z axis" any other Z axis will be bound to the throttle.

On my setup as I have two devices with the same axis I have to move them both to get the full range.

Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.

Gearing up my equipment

Hi everybody,

I am gering up my equipment with the Thrustmaster Warthog, did order it last week and should receive it this Friday. Will have to set it all up and wait for Alpha 2.0 to come out. :)

Just hope did not buy the wrong Joystick... :S

Anyways I am very thrilled/excited about Elite: Dangerous and cant wait to find some new Starsystems and hang out in Space with some of you... :)

Kind regards
Gometzler
