Go into the Controls section in the Main Menu and enable mouse with headlook

"Mouse Headlook" is on, but the 'headlook' mode still obeys my flight controls ... or, in other words, it's impossible to control my direction of flight when having headlook on....

EDIT: oh! I had to detach the "look up/down" and "look left/right" controls...

EDIT 2: so now, having those (in edit 1 above) detached, the headlook is fully detached from flight controls...

Glad you got it!

My first answer was off the cuff since I was on a series of jumps and couldn't really look at the options. Now I'm docked and looking at them.

I have keys bound for the different directions but I did those before I realized that I could just do it all with the mouse. Even now I just found the toggle to have headlook off by default. It was annoying me that I had to disable headlook when the game first came up or I would be looking around instead of getting to Starport Services.

Broondog = dumbass sometimes!

Edit.....I wont mention how long I played before I realized that I could look some other direction besides forward!

Doh!

Just bought an EDTracker to add to the fun:D

Makes a huge difference in combat. And docking.

Now I just need to find a way to attach it to my bonce when I'm not wearing my headset.

I've had an X-52 for a few weeks now. I've been making minor tweaks to the set-up, but I think I've got it pretty much where I want it now. It's certainly made the game more fun (even if I did have to learn to use the stick right-handed!)

Anyone using a flight yoke for the bigger ships - seems more appropriate than a stick?
Got a Saitek yoke boxed away that I might get out and put to use with my T9.

X52 or X55???

Hello good people of the forums! I approached thee today regarding a question i have and although yours truly know'eth it has been answered time and time again i require newer info.

Therefore, my good people of the forums i beseeched thee, should i get the X55 or X52 and why and bla bla and etc etc....

DISCUSS!... please?

P.S : I forgot to mention a few things like i'm new to the forums, i'm new to the game and I have gone through alot of past info on the joysticks such as the X55 where u either a really good one or get a broken one and whereas the X52 is good but "Im never going back to the X52 now that i have the X55" kinda thing happens

Plez halp this lowly heathen for he is confuzzled

I had the X55, buttons failed left, right and center.. took it back and grabbed an X52 and we lived happily ever after *insert sarcasm here*. Buttons failing and a god awful squeaking when you move the joystick around. The base looks like its covered in plastic dust where it's wearing away somewhere or other...incidentally it's less than 3 months old. In a word, crapola.. avoid and don't waste your money on Saitek. Go CH products :)

I recently purchased the X55 and love it. Good balance of quality/features/price, I think. I've never used the X52 so can't really compare between the two. Visually (from images on the web), I preferred the X55. I like all the toggle buttons and the general look of the throttle and stick.

There are some issues with drivers at the moment, which quite possibly covers both X52 and X55. Windows 10 is being addressed in beta drivers I believe. There are issues with the X55 at least when using certain USB3 controllers. You might want to keep an eye on this thread.

None, CH products. It will last you longer than the game

Hmm i see... I'm currently looking into CH products and so far the fighterstick and pro throttle looks compelling. Which one would you guys recommend though? Forgive my insolence as i am still new to the flight joystick industry

This shouldnt be a problem for me as i'm not using windows 10. Still using windows 7 and not planning to upgrade anytime soon :p

Hmm.. i see. I'm currently looking through the CH products and the pro throttle + fighterstick looks promising. Would u recommend these for a first timer? Forgive me for my insolence as i am still but a fluffy teddy bear to this industry

I have both, but prefer the X52.. just feels better..

I have had the X52 for years without one single problem. Just occasionally spray the main spring on the X52 with some WD40 and wipe off the excess, and you will have a smooth gliding noiseless action. Keep it clean and generally look after it and I think you will have no problems with it.

you might want to re-grease the throttle action with a bit of vaseline, but this is REALLY rare. Ive only ever done this once..

The X55 feels better for flightsims in my opinion.

All saitek products are just designed to fail with that illogical centering system. And i'll even go into the boat loads of bugs and glitchs that you may encounter.

1. MFD failure, screen starts flashing/flickering
2. At times buttons just stop to work, for my x52 pro, the throttle pov hat lateral left button stopped working, then a couple of hours later it works again.
3. Mouse stick extremely impresice and a pain to use, sometimes throws your cursor or makes you look to the left all of a sudden if you bind it that way.
4. MFD text disapears, the mode number goes away, text lools garballed.

No joke at one time my MFD displayed the word "niger"; not the country but the derogatory variant.

5. Some times the throttle randomly loses its zero position, i have my throttle set to full range with a backwards gear shift button, so press the button then throttle forwards to go backwards or just go forwards. When this happens, you might not realise so when you get interdicted you won't be able to understand why you can't submit to the interdiction or sometimes you crash into stars because you can't slow down.

Honestly saitek just don't give a damn. They released a driver update for windows 10 and practically abbandoned win7 after years fof win 7 customers.

Dang that sounds harsh :/ Well i guess ill be getting the CH firestick and CH pro throttle then but i think ill wait awhile and hear other peoples opinions. Thanks for the info though! :D

The recent builds on Saitek products have inconsistent quality in production. Some folks get decent sets...others get ones that break immediately and fall into a return replace cycle until they get one that works.

Personally, I don't feel like dealing with the possibility of poor build issues.

Right now, I'm running a Logitech Extreme 3D pro...fine stick, not the most accurate but it gets the job done, reliably. And it only cost me 30 US dollars, which I thought was great for something to get me back in the groove of using a joystick (haven't had one since my trusty Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro, back in the 90s).

I think what I'm going to do is go for a mix and match. First, I'll get the Thrustmaster T1600M for a few reasons. It uses the Hall Effect which is purported to have great precision and responsiveness, something I'm craving as I use fixed weapons more. It is ambidextrous, so I might just end up going dual stick with it. Also, it has stellar reviews. Second, I want to get the CH Throttle for its modest size, plethora of button options and unparalleled quality.

I would get the CH stick, but I personally prefer twist yaw over pedals (voracious leg shaker, RLS or whatever). All in all I'm looking at about 170 US dollars for this setup, which puts it on par with the X52 Pro (10 more dollars on Amazon) but I feel it delivers better precision, quality and durability.

EDIT: And I just found this thread through Google...even more convinced of its greatness than before! [h=1]CH Pro Throttle & Thrustmaster T.16000m - Binds & Banter![/h]

Before you buy CH, which is certainly better quality, remember that the stick has no twist. You'll have to buy pedals for yaw. I think Saitek make them.....

Yeah i heard about that, but i saw one control scheme where you use one of the 4 way hats on the joystick to move left, right,up and down
