i wanted to go for x52pro, however there are tons of complaints about the build quality and it basically breaking within first few months..so do any of you guys who bought it have had problems with it's durability yet?

Bought mine before Xmas(X52pro) tested/played Alpha alot first few months and on and off lately, no problems so far and seems very durable, a highly recommend and ideal for ED.

Can't speak for the others mentioned but for playing on a sofa I'd imaginr the Thrustmaster T Flight HOTAS would be good as with both halves joined together you'd have a fairly wide stable base.

Got one myself the other day and theres enough buttons on there that I rarely need to touch the keyboard in this game, though with the 2 halves separated a keyboard fits nicely in the middle.

Hello pilots, and welcome.

As the title suggest, I'm thinking to buy a Joystick ( but nothing extremely expensive ). So far I'm looking at products such as the "Saitek Cyborg F.L.Y 5" and the "Thrustmaster T Flight HOTAS", but I'm open minded about alternative solutions.
So, please guys, share with me all of your knowledge and personal experience about this matter! :)

EDIT: I play on the sofa. xD

I have the T. flight Stick (not Hotas) and in combination with the keyboard I can play very well wih all the bells and whistles.

What is missing is look around control because I use the PoV hat for targeting.

But I ordered a PS3 Eye for use as a face tracker with FaceTrackNoIR. And a oculus rift DK2.

Wil look into an X55 but the T.Stick is really all I need and play much better than an xbox 360 controller.

I have the fly 5 and for £44 I think its 22 buttons are just fine for the game. I would also suggest that you invest in a small piece of software called voice attack. It only costs $8 (about £4.75) and will make life a lot easier.

X52 Pro here. The game is just great with it - no need to use the keyboard at all. Not cheap, but haven't regretted it for a second.

Which Joystick?

Looking at getting a New Joystick for Elite: Dangerous. Only problem is I'm not sure which one to get. Have done some reading on these forums and have a idea but I'm also slightly confused.

requirements I'm looking at -

1) Win7 PC compatible.

2) Ease of use with Elite: Dangerous. (Otherwise known as easy and simple to set up.)

3) Reasonable price. Have a budget of $200 USD, prefer it costing less but also will to go slightly more if it's worth it.

What do people suggest?

Guys, do u think it will be possible to bind 2 keys at the same time for example CTRL+D and so on, one key allowing to use the same buttons twice?

thanks

Is anyone using the little mini analogue joystick on the CH Pro Throttle for thrusters? I have tried bit it seems far too sensitive and throws the ship all over the place when trying to dock. I also needed quite a bit of deadband or I was seeing drift. At the moment I have reverted to using one of the digital hats for thrusters, but I am sure I read somewhere that someone had nice fine control using the mini stick. I am not using the CH software, I just use the default and configure mappings in ED.

Soon.

QFT.

Mike, The only solution I see in this regard is massive use of shift states.
The common thing that most flight sticks and console controllers share is that they have a POV hat (D-PAD on a console controller).
It can also usually be assumed that buttons 1-4 will be the "primary" fire buttons on the right hand. This holds true for XBOX controllers and most flight sticks.

While writing my own interim shift-state solution (EDTweak), I have been working on how to compress most of the game's functionality onto a POV hat plus various shift states - you might want to check out my musings here.

Until ED properly supports shift states, it would be pretty pointless finalizing any control presets. In the meantime, I suggest we concentrate on building a library of EDTweak configs for various joysticks - to give us an idea of what you guys will need to write for the finished product.

I've wanted to have shift states via control keys for ages now but it's just one of those little things that always seems to get pushed back.

It all depends on your budget...
As people have already said the Saitek X55 is a lovely new joystick coming in at just under $200.
Down from that there's the X52 Pro at $160
Down again we come to the normal X52 at $120
Then you drop down to my joystick (which I love, though I would like another hat switch) the Thrustmaster HOTAS X at $45
Or down again to the Thrustmaster Stick X at $30
And finally (for my list) to the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick at $22

Personally I think it's worth getting some form of HOTAS (Hands on Throttle and Stick) since that feels more natural and gives one (well me anyway) more intuitive control.

If money was no object I would probably go with the X55. However it's also pretty much brand new. People say it 'feels well built' but I guess we don't know how it will last the test of time.

The X52 line of joysticks are also really good, though I've heard of them breaking more often than I'd feel fully comfortable with.

The Thrustmaster HOTAS is really solid, and has stood the test of time. It could use some more buttons / hat switches and so on, though I personally don't massively miss them. It also costs less than $50 which is a bonus :)

Eid

Where do you have the lateral and vertical thrusters configured? I am trying to decide on a HOTAS setup and after being killed more times than I care to discuss this weekend, I see that lat/vert thrusts is very important in a space sim.
