I've just got Elite yesterday and was wondering how best to set it up with the G13, so this is a great starting point. I don't have a joystick though, so trying to decide weather 360 pad or mouse will be best. Anyway, thanks for sharing! :)

I'm a lefty, so its a Thrustmaster T16000m for me.

Intersting on the RC Tx tho, I've got a FrSky Taranis I could have a go with, but I suspect the lack of buttons might limit it.

I'm a lefty too, previously had a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold, but I was sold by trying out a friend's X52 Pro. I figure, real planes (and cars, and everything else) don't come in left- and right-handed variants based on your handedness (only based on what country you're in ;)), so I should be able to get used to a stick in my right hand and a throttle in my left.

It turned out to be much easier than I expected, and I actually find it much easier to move from throttle to mouse and back if I ever use the mouse to navigate menus or similar than to move from stick to mouse and back.

Poll is over but I'm part of the "Others" With a 12 years old Microsoft Sidewinder 2 FFB.

Can someone explain me why Saitek are so expensive and not reliable? I was attracted by this stick, but at that price without FFB...mmm...plus build quality...mmmm. I will keep the SW2

I have a MS Sidewinder 3D Pro Plus (about 16-18 years old), and all this talk of the new Saitek joysticks makes me very itchy to try an x55. But then I read about all the problems people are having and... errr... no, I think I'll just stay with my ancient and reliable Sidewinder.

I'm rocking my 15 year old Saitek X36 flightstick and throttle.... Works fine! (and was in an attic for over a decade too ;) )

Best joystick throttle combo

Im looking for a throttle and stick willing to pay up to $250 but dont know which one to get heard the x55 is good but dont know if there are others out there that are better want a throttle and stick.

Thanks,
Squeekydoor

I own one :D People are complaining about the x55. Maybe some of them are here and can give you some hints.

Also it seems the x52 range is the unofficial ED HOTAS setup. DB and Co. play with it everytime. Have you noticed that the in-game HOTAS is designed after the x52 pro? :)

Maybe they should bundle the stick with the game? :)

If you want consumer goods built down to a price buy Saitek. If you want precision devices made by an industrial controller company buy CH.

They work great, are rugged, reliable and and can be configured however you want. The analog joystick/thumbstick on the throttle is worth the price alone when mapped to the vert/lat thrusters.

I must concur. :) My CH Pro Throttle finally arrived last week - and it's been worth the wait. It was pretty expensive, but I've had a CH product in the past, and the products they make seem very reliable and sturdy. It just feels totally solid when you're using it.

I already owned a T.16000M stick, which I think is excellent value for the money. It has a 'twist-axis' so I'm using that for yaw myself. The CH Pro Throttle indeed has an awesome thumb-joystick which I'm using for thrusting sideways and vertical as well. So you'll have everything covered with this combination - no direct need for pedals (even though that would be even more fun...)

I have no experience with other sticks and throttles - I just started out with the T.16000M and then added the nicest throttle I could find (after doing some review digging in articles and on YouTube). You might wish to check this throttle comparison review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceOdOytgT64

A bit off-topic, but adding VoiceAttack to the mix is something you could consider as well. I find it to be really fun and immersive, being able to talk to your ship's computer and having your own custom commands automatically performed. Really makes flying 'easier' too, because you could have the stick and throttle focus on 'pure flight and combat' things, performing secondary functions with your voice.

I think all of this might will easily fit that $250 budget, too. :)

I use the X-55 and one of the cool things I heard about it for future development is that it will be possible to trade out the stick for other designs, that is if there is enough consumer demand for it. This was mentioned in an interview with Saitek representatives.

The standard stick is inspired by a real fighter plane (a "Rhino" I think) but because the stick is easily removable, it opens up the option for more "space age" designed sticks, possibly even a retro X-52 design that could be purchased at a reasonable price and attached to your existing X-55 HOTAS setup.

That sounds ' awesome to me!

I agree with CH Pro Throttle (it's just awesome!) and the Thrustmaster T.16000 although this stick has really awful base buttons. (But not needed, IMHO).

I would so love the CH Pro Fighterstick to go with the Throttle but I simply can't be without the Twist feature. To be honest, I would be entirely lost without having the twist feature on the stick. Just based on the quality of the Throttle and just from looking at the buttons the CH stick has, if the CH Pro Fighterstick *HAD* a twist it would probably be "the best" joystick, hands down (even without HALL sensors).

It's a total shame CH Pro sticks don't have a twist.
