I've not tried the x52, but yeah I will agree that the Logitech is a little wooly, and the yaw doesn't zero properly so I have to have a fair deadzone set or I'll go round in circles a lot! ... it's a cheap and cheerful stick, but fairly reliable (unlike what I've heard of the cyborg sticks)
.
I'm definitely planning on upgrading at some point soon, but first I need to find £300 or so!

so it looks like its best to just go for the middle one being the t-flight hotas x ?

I got the t flight hotas and am very happy with it. Good bindings are important and there is a good thread with someone who created a great custom binds for it you can download. Can't find the link right now. Anything better is a lot more money so if you want to budget a bit it's the best you can get

You may see the Speedlink Black-widow out there in the budget ranges I got one a couple years back for this game , dont feel tempted to save a few pounds thinking to buy it . (I bought it when i backed in dec 2012 keen i was but stoopid), sat in a box until nov 22nd It has a weird feel in battles and it wanders to the left in calibration like it was sat on top of a washing machine on low spin this translates into a constant want to rotate to the left in flight even after adjusting the dead-zones through the ED settings options for X and Y axis, as well as some of the others .might be just this stick or it may be just this stick does not like this particular game (cant return it, though its had very little use and very few battles ) looks at desk weeps quietly.

ah i was just looking at that one ill leave that alone, sofar ive been looking round and found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZuWi3nyYF8 seems while its "cheaply made" it seems to be a good one for people like me!

Just watched that review in the link. looks kinda budget nice and feature acceptable for this game, noticed the first comment on the video mentions others with the same experience as I with the Black-widow, definitely an avoid for Elite, weeps become audible sobs

hello, i know this topics posted all the time (i did use the search bar) but it seems the ones that are reccomended are over £70 or so and im on a budget so my question is, is there any good budget joysticks under £50 that are good enough to play for a beginner because ive tried and tried to use mouse and keyboard and it just doesnt feel right and its hard to fly right.

i found this but i want to know if this is the best i can get for under £50 or if there is something cheaper that is better ?
Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Joystick £39 (cant link as im new but its on amazon)

thank you :)

that's the one I have. It's great.
I think Isinona uses the same one as well.

He does stuff like this with it. All in Flight Assist Off mode. Which is nuts.

Can I weigh in woth a Mad catz Fly 5?

It's my first joystick since playing the original flight simulator back in the 20th century but I'm finding it great to use. I chose this over the Thrustmaster Hotas because it has half the footprint on my desk.

I just plugged my Speedlink Black Widow in. It has native support in ED and was auto-configured for me. No issues at all and the flight was very smooth with it.

I had a T-flight years ago and the pots went bad on it within 3 months so it could not fly smoothly. I had a lot of crash-landings in IL-2 until I switched joysticks and discovered it was the Thrustmaster causing the issues.

I'm going to stick with the Widow for a while and see how I adapt to not using my Saitek pedals :D

I got a Logic3 Flightsick and Throttle (about the same cost as the Thrustmaster) and whilst there are definitely some issues with it it is still a servicable HOTAS set up

The issues are around the drivers which dont seem to instal very well, I do not have access to two of the modes and randomly need to reinstall the driver. That said when it works its fine but only as a begginners setup, I will be looking to move up to a better bit of kit when money allows

i use the Thrustmaster T16000M, and have a CH throttle, work very well, the Thrustmaster T16000M for the cost is excellent

I know it's not a joystick, but you could consider an Xbox 360 controller. It took a bit of getting used to but it's reasonable. £30-ish on Amazon.

Was just going to suggest the XBox controller as well. I use the XOne controller (bit more expensive than the 360) and it works very well for this game. I have all my buttons mapped out and I don't need to use the keyboard or mouse. Well, except in the recent patch since they broke gamepad input in a couple areas in the user interface. It's very comfortable and I can play while relaxing on my sofa, or while using the Oculus Rift. If this game supports controller vibration in the future, it will only augment the experience even more (though most joysticks nowadays support this as well). The nice thing about a gamepad too is you can use it for other games, so you get more value for your dollar. But it all comes down to what you want. There's more immersion to be had with a HOTAS.

I'm using the Logitech Attack 3, it's perfectly fine for a starter joystick and £12 from CEX:

I find it quite weighty. I got a chance to play ED at EGX and found the joysticks they were using to be really light and insubstantial.

There's also the Logitech Extreme 3D for £15:

You can probably get them cheaper on eBay, but you at least know the max to pay for them.

HOTAS may not be the best way to fly in ED. Twin joysticks + pedals gives full 6dof, as this video shows:

No probs at all with a speed master black widow. Game recognises it. Just over £20!

Was actually bought for FS X.

Nice fine control on stick, throttle and yaw rocker. Heavy enough not to move about. A few more buttons and another HAT would have been nice but again, £20!

Thrustmaster 16000m with a configuration script to allow auto thrust and shifted keys. Its a real accurate stick at a great price.
