I have the X52 Pro and it works great so far.

I'm not especially thrilled with the half inch or so of play in the stick however, and may return it for a different unit. It doesn't appear to be affecting accuracy or performance, but it definitely has a bit of a sloppy feel with that much free movement.

Load up the spring, there are a few posts on doing this, I did, just not the same way. Stiffened it up nicely. :)

Like this one, I went a diff way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TewzmOoysDw

I had to decide between the three as well. I allready ordered the X52 Pro from the elite store but kept reading.
I ended up caceling my order and buying the x-55.

Here is why: The x-52 needs to be modded to be as precise (x-52 does have quite the deadzone)as the x-55 (this can be argued - i never had a x-52 - it is very good probably). The stiffness of the stick can be adjusted with 4 different springs and the throttle of the x-55 is smooth from 0 to 100 while the x-52 needs to be opened up and modded to achive this.

The warthog was my favorite at first but the lack of a Z axis on the stick was a no go.
I did have a close look at the CH fighterstick too but since i play with the oculus rift i really need all thos crazy buttons.

I do think that you can't really go wrong with any of the above listed products though.

If you are like me and have knee problems (major knee surgery) then the x55 is a must. The Warthog doesn't have twist and I can't use pedals currently.

I had x-55 but i changed to x-65f due to more precise force sensing.I was lucky to get brand new for just 200€ so i didn't hasitate. Elite doesn't really require so much precission in aiming like other sims (Rise of flight,DCS,...)

First I tried the CH Pro Stick and Throttle. Very accurate, but too plastically and lightweight. Also the throttle didnt have enough buttons. Tried the Thrustmaster Warthog system and was like WoW! Returned the CH gear for the Warthog.

Yes it's expensive, but if you high a flight/space sim you are serious about, it's worth every penny.

Not enough buttons are you kidding Oo it has more buttons than any other HOTAS out there.
Regarding the plastic it's true. The CH products are purely made out of plastic BUT it's strong industrial/military grade plastic. CH products is not a manufacturer of toys like saitek or thrustmaster (TM does have quality products but I mean that's what they do - peripherals for gaming). CH products builds equipment for industrial and military use. They basically will never break, it's the best plastic you can get basically^^

I have had a CH stick for some years.
So for this game I also bought the CH throttle, mainly for additional buttons, I read that the CH products are supposed to work well together but am disappointing when I used them both for the first time today to discover the new throttle has a massive dead zone between forward and reverse so have to revert to using the wheel on the Fighter stick.
Is there something I am supposed to do, or maybe the throttle doesn't like being used for forward and reverse though I had no dead zone on the wheel.

I also suspect that the stick doesn't feel as quick as it was now I am using the throttle as well?

That cant be the throttle - check bindings - especially the quantizing function (cant remember what its called).

joystick problem? - supercruise throttle issue

I use a Thrustmaster Flightstick and assigned the thrust controls to the throttle wheel. It works perfectly in normal flight mode or when docking.
But when in supercruise I cannot longer control speed via the throttle wheel but have to press W or S to speed up/slow down.

What am I doing wrong here? :S

If I could whip something together for 100€ total, I would be very pleased.

How are your "making" (electronics & otherwise) and programming skills?

I'm in the same dilemma, I don't want to buy a CH throttle - I've been inspired by this custom MWO build to build my own throttle unit, using a Teensy, a mini-joystick off a gamepad for "thumbstick", a potentiometer (or possibly hall effect sensor) for throttle itself, and a bunch of "hat" switches. Not sure if I'll do the handle out of wood or have it 3d printed.

Still acquiring the parts though - eBay sellers in China have quite variable shipping times

Agreed. Check the throttle and stick response in the CH controller calibration and other relevant sections; mine (throttle) is so sensitive, I may have to introduce some deadband (using it as fwd/rev, lots of hunting on the landing pad). I've had zero issues with the combination since I purchased them about three months ago, other than this recent (might have been due to the ship balancing; didn't used to occur).

Many have CH units from the gameport era with few issues. Some have stated the added reality of the weight and trigger pressures of the Warthog setup (to emulate the real controls) are perhaps a mismatch for a pure Newtonian simulator (such as Elite : Dangerous). Others complain of the spring stiffness/stiction on the Warthog. It really does come down to personal choices, as with so many other things in life.

Got my Defender Cobra M5 through the other day. =D

Most Excellent. Let us know your thoughts; I thought long and hard about obtaining that unit, or its larger sibling.

This one has had an X55 sitting brand new and boxed in the spare lounge for over a month because this one told its wife she could give it to this one for Christmas. The quality of the box is excellent. Great build, clear printing and nice restrained colours and presentation.

Only 7 more days and this one has kept true to the arrangement.

Are you using the wheel for forward and reverse ?, ie zero throttle is mid position, not sure if thet would cause it.
.
I only use the Forward throttle option and then a key with a Voice Attack command to reverse thrust the throttle then has full range in reverse.
.
For remembering Binds I made myself a Joystick Template years ago when I first got the T1600M, I print a blank and note down what I want on each Button/Axis/Trigger.
Assign the relevant command in game and test it out, change as required then type in command on new template and print it off, this acts as a guide if required.
.
To be honest I only use a few buttons on the stick now as I use Voice Attack for most of the system commands and panel controls, including Macro Commands for Request Docking etc.

I'd strongly suggest also investigating Roccat's Powergrid (if you have an android device to hand).

Once configured to how you like - it's very (very) immersive - at least it is for me.

Well worth the 0 price tag.

Yes, zero throttle is in the middle.
I will try your suggestion with voice attack. Thanks!

Which of the most popular joysticks include the twist feature? If there is a link to a thread that includes this key detail that would be super!

Maybe try throttle as Forward only, see if that removes your issue with no control in supercruise.
.
I think somebody else had a similar issue ages back in Beta, unable to remember what caused it though.
.
Hope you get it fixed.
.
Just found a thread from Gamma with same issue, the guy reassigned his throttle axis from within the Game pause Menu rather then Main Menu setup and it then worked fine.
