Hi all,
My first plea for help please on the forum.... I have just started playing and slowly getting to grips, however I seem to have a problem with the joystick / mice control although I may have caused it myself.
I have a Cyborg X (F.L.Y 5) joystick and am using that. The first thing I had to do was remap some of the functions to the joystick buttons and although that seems to have worked I think I have created a few problems, without going overboard the main problem driving me crazy is the following.
When I dock at a space station I have to navigate to the systems / launch etc. using the top hat buttons and trigger or WSAD & space. I can change to the pads with 1,2,4 etc. and then use the top hat and triggers again (or wsad) but cannot navigate around the screen navigation etc. with the mouse - joystick only. Once I get into the commodity / bulletin board sections etc. the mouse works but as soon as I select one of the other panels again mouse stops and back to joystick.
I am guessing I have messed this up, can anyone point me in the direction of the settings I need to change to get this working please ? I don't want to use the mouse to fly, but do want to use it for menus etc...
I was going to try resetting all the controls back to defaults and starting again but I cannot find an option to do that either......
Many Thanks for your help.
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan;
I am not going to solve your problem directly because that is too complicated. I have the Saitek X65f which is in the same family as the Cyborg, uses the same software etc.
What I want to do is explain a concept that may help you solve your own problem. In most games you bind a button to a single function. Trigger Switch fires the Lasers. In Elite, Buttons are Context sensitive. The contexts are General Controls, User Interface (UI), and the Galaxy Map. So in ED you can bind the Trigger to fire your lasers. But you can also bind the trigger in the UI section to be the Select Key and you can bind it in the Galaxy Map to be the Exit Key, or whatever you want. The point is that when you are in the Cockpit and you press the Trigger, it fires the lasers. If you switch to the side panels, or the starport services menus, then the Trigger eguals the select or Enter key, and when you are in the Galaxy Map and you press the Trigger, it means Exit, in this example.
So bindings can be contextual in Elite meaning the same button can be bound more than once.
I have the Pinkie button deploy my hardpoints when I am in the cockpit. In any of the menus, it serves as the Enter/Select key, and in the Galaxy Map it is bound to the exit key.
One more thing, if you try to bind a button more than once WITHIN THE SAME CONTEXT, the binding will erase the duplicate. As long as it is in a different context, you can bind the same button and both binding will remain.
