that t-flight hotas thing looks nice for the price.

i cant justify the investment or space needed for a warthog or similar priced stick, for just this game.

Yep, got a tflight, and for the money they are excellent.

I have a Speedlink Black Widow, however the throttle control with Elite seems very twitchy, at around 75% it seems to hunt backwards and forwards rapidly, meaning my ship kangaroos through space like a first day learner driver. Anyone else having this problem? I have been thinking of changing to the TFlight but wasn't sure if I would get the same problem with that.

Just got my T-Flight HOTAS yesterday, still finetuning the bindings to my liking, but I have to say, it works perfectly with the game, such an improvement over playing with kb+mouse.

Also bought VoiceAttack, still finetuning that too, it seems to have problems understanding my English (my native language is Finnish, so I guess I'll need to work on my pronunciation :) )

Don't worry about it, I'm from Lancashire in England, and it struggled with my accent too, Just do the teaching bit several times, it gets you eventually.

Mine just worked :/ check the game settings

LOL! I'm from Derbyshire.... it understands me... which took me completely by surprise :) "engage"

For what its worth, I just bought a Madcatz FLY 5. So far, its incredibly adjustable, seems to have a nice spring and natural deadzone, very much like you would expect on a very expensive version. You get an allen key and you can adjust the rake and height of the stick so it fits very comfortably. Did a bit of docking and wow what a difference, no panic, glided in, the POV hat defined as u/d/l/r thrusters was a dream. Its helped my my flight skills enormously, no dog fights yet - but hey to be honest i'm not much of a combat ace! So recommended from me, its well worth a look and i got it for £33 from Amazon.

Got my thrustmaster hotas x today, ran to the postoffice and got it, then home. and must say, DAMN, what a diffrance in flying.. :D Best buy i ever did :D Thanxs to the peps recomending this...

A very nice stick imo.. but I use the BW for the price it's brilliant... and with VoiceAttack, you don't need all those buttons :) just use voice commands

Use both keyboard and joystick?

Hi, guys!

Pre-ordered the game, loving it so far.

I do have one question, though.

Is it possible to use a keyboard and a joystick at the same time? I have a basic joystick that doesn't have too many buttons on it, and for the more useful ones, I'd like to be able to assign them to easy to reach keyboard buttons.

However, the game doesn't seem to recognize keyboard input when using a joystick.

Have I missed something, or is this just not possible at the moment?

Thanks!

How are you assigning your controls? You should create custom controls and bind both joystick and keyboard together. I am using HOTAS and rudder pedals, however, I have set them over the standard KB/M setup for test purposes and I do not have any issues changing taking the controls from HOTAS it KB/M.

I seem to have it working now. I'm not sure what happened before; I based my config on "Generic Joystick", or whatever, but decided to customize the controls. Even the customize controls screen wouldn't respond to ANY input besides from the joystick.

After closing and going back into the game, modifying my custom binding configuration again seems to have let me use keyboard controls as well.

Thank you!

Help binding keys & Joystick / Mouse control please

Hi all,

My first plea for help please on the forum.... I have just started playing and slowly getting to grips, however I seem to have a problem with the joystick / mice control although I may have caused it myself.

I have a Cyborg X (F.L.Y 5) joystick and am using that. The first thing I had to do was remap some of the functions to the joystick buttons and although that seems to have worked I think I have created a few problems, without going overboard the main problem driving me crazy is the following.

When I dock at a space station I have to navigate to the systems / launch etc. using the top hat buttons and trigger or WSAD & space. I can change to the pads with 1,2,4 etc. and then use the top hat and triggers again (or wsad) but cannot navigate around the screen navigation etc. with the mouse - joystick only. Once I get into the commodity / bulletin board sections etc. the mouse works but as soon as I select one of the other panels again mouse stops and back to joystick.

I am guessing I have messed this up, can anyone point me in the direction of the settings I need to change to get this working please ? I don't want to use the mouse to fly, but do want to use it for menus etc...

I was going to try resetting all the controls back to defaults and starting again but I cannot find an option to do that either......

Many Thanks for your help.

Jonathan

Check that the key used to switch to the panels isn't also assigned to another separate function like head look. I occasionally end up with FSD key also linked to head look, first time it happened it took me a while to figure out why the hat was not working to change power distribution settings but was moving my view, your problem sounds similar.

Hi Jonathan;

I am not going to solve your problem directly because that is too complicated. I have the Saitek X65f which is in the same family as the Cyborg, uses the same software etc.

What I want to do is explain a concept that may help you solve your own problem. In most games you bind a button to a single function. Trigger Switch fires the Lasers. In Elite, Buttons are Context sensitive. The contexts are General Controls, User Interface (UI), and the Galaxy Map. So in ED you can bind the Trigger to fire your lasers. But you can also bind the trigger in the UI section to be the Select Key and you can bind it in the Galaxy Map to be the Exit Key, or whatever you want. The point is that when you are in the Cockpit and you press the Trigger, it fires the lasers. If you switch to the side panels, or the starport services menus, then the Trigger eguals the select or Enter key, and when you are in the Galaxy Map and you press the Trigger, it means Exit, in this example.

So bindings can be contextual in Elite meaning the same button can be bound more than once.

I have the Pinkie button deploy my hardpoints when I am in the cockpit. In any of the menus, it serves as the Enter/Select key, and in the Galaxy Map it is bound to the exit key.

One more thing, if you try to bind a button more than once WITHIN THE SAME CONTEXT, the binding will erase the duplicate. As long as it is in a different context, you can bind the same button and both binding will remain.

Controller

I have the Thrustmaster T. Flight HOTAS controller. As I am new to the game, I am still trying to figure out where everything is and what it does. I will get there eventually.

I still have the HOTAS sitting on the table near me, but I'm actually flying with a Mouse and Razer Nostromo (which I'm slowly configuring to completely replace the keyboard)

I have the Pitch and Yaw on the mouse with the Nostromo giving me WSAD Thrust and Roll, along with the thrusters, Jump drive, Targeting, AllStop, NoAssist, Boost and full vidscreen controls. I need to add a few more functions, but I still have two full 'modes' left to play with so I could set up one for docking and one for combat just as easily.
