Joystick constantly rolling craft to the right

I have a Speedlink Black Widow and in the Control Panel, it shows the stick as rock steady, but in game it's constantly rolling the craft to the right and I have to use correctional directions to straighten it out. What's likely to be causing this? I tried disconnecting my Xbox 360 pad in case that's somehow conflicting, but it made no difference at all. I Googled the problem prior to coming here but didn't come up with any threads and I've checked in the ingame control section but can't find any calibration options.

At first I thought it might be rotational correction, but turning that on or off made no difference.

Thanks in advance for any help and Merry Christmas!

You can adjust the axis deadzone in the control settings. I had to do the same with my X55. Just move the slider up a tiny notch. That should sort it out.

It's nothing like a flight sim. The forces on your craft are based on thrust alone. There's no "lift" gained from forward motion, the craft doesn't stall. Even gravity doesn't work - you just slow down when you're near a massive body. You can't (for example) slingshot around a star. Newcomers might be overcome by its complexity, but it's nowhere near as complicated as a flight sim.

Alright, call it a float sim.

Joystick help please

Hey, so I just got ED and a thrustmaster hotas X and currently, the lateral thrusters on the back of the throttle do nothing so I can't thrust left or right and I don't know how to thrust up or down either. The game tells me to "use unbound to leave the station". I believe that currently, Q and E thrust me left and right and R and F thrust me up and down. Any help? Thanks!

Huge deadzone in my CH Joystick.

So I have the CH fighterstick, though I have deadzones down to zero in my options, my left to right axis/roll, has the central 50% completely dead, whereas the pitch back and forward has no deadzone at all.

Anybody else have this, especially you guys with CH sticks?
I am using Windows 7 if that is relevant.
Thinking about it, I dont think I had this problem until I installed the CH Control manager.

Did you check the drivers?

No, how do I do that?
I presume you are talking about drivers for the CH products.
I hate trying to find and install new drivers as they always seem to come bundled with malware.
Can you point me in the right direction please?

They don't actually need drivers but I'd suggest checking the stick through their config program CH control manager

If you do have a fault their support staff are excellent. My throttle wasn't working quite as well as it should and they shipped me a new part in a couple of days so I could repair it.

I have the CH Control Manager,
Whilst it configures the stick as in centralising and range, I cannot find anything concerning dead zones though.
I have e-mailed CH so will be nice to find out what they have to offer, at the moment it is rather difficult to not vear from side to side.
(somebody please remind me how to spell vear)

Off the top of my head i think its in the secondary tab in the calibration section.

Edit: Out of interest does the joystick respond correctly in the calibration tool or does it have the issue there too?

Have you checked you control bindings in game
There are deadzone settings there, also check you have the stick bound to 'axis' not left/right etc

Both the Flightstick and the throttle are perfect in control manager, no dead zone, the secondary tab says Axis settings, not sure how that works but every dead zone box had a zero in it.

Thats it, it was bound to Roll Left and Roll right rather than roll axis, though I wonder why the pre-flight never warned me of that?
Perfect now, (though what do I use roll left and right for?)

It's for keyboard controls
The pre flight only looks for an input not type of input

Stumbled across the solution by accident. I had pitch up/down and roll left/right both set to individual axis in the control settings. I had no idea that doing this means that you are set to digital. So ignore my statements on gradiation of control that I said I had, that must have been an impression that I gave myself via throttle!

The fix was to blank each axis that I defined and simply choose the "Pitch axis" choice for configuring instead of "Pitch up" and "Pitch down" individually. I can't help but think that "Pitch up" all the other individual axis controls need to be labelled as digital though, as this is very misleading?

I only spotted this by reading a thread on someone else who was wondering if they had appalling flight skills and the fix was hinted at.

I've just swapped my joystick out for a new one (off Santa for Christmas!) and fell into the same trap. Just as well I found this post.

Solved my problem.

Control recommendations - joystick alternative sought!

Hi

I picked up a copy of ED this week, alongside a logitech extreme 3D pro joystick. All going great for a couple of days, then my hand started to hurt. A lot. Turns out the joystick has started to damage tendons in my wrist...! This is annoying.

Have had a rest and all now better, but need to find a new control mechanism! I found having easy access to the manouvering thrusters (up / down / left right) really handy for docking. So, does anyone have any recommendations? Am thinking of:

a) a really light joystcisk (i.e. require v little force - the logitech is quite "heavy" compared to the ones i used 20 odd years ago)
b) PS3 or Xbox 360 controller - which is best? this eliminates use of the keyboard for anything quick - are there enough controls?
c) Mouse / KB - how is best to configure this? using a mouse to "roll" seems quite un-natural - is there a way to just use the mouse to move to ship about "normally"?

Thanks for any suggestions - want to start playing again!
