But do you have the Razer software installed?
Thats what got me.. it works fine until you install the razer stuff then my joystick stopped working with ED.

Yes, Synapse 2.0 is installed and does not seem to interfere with Logitech Profiler and CM Control Center. I'm not sure where your problem is, maybe you want to uninstall the whole circus and get everything back in order?

Hi all,

Just joined forum & bought/installed game yesterday. Have just bought the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X from amazon after seeing some really good reviews. Have one question though... Having never used a "joystick" for a game before (always used gamepad or mouse/keyboard) any tips on what's best setup for button config?

Thanks in advance.

i do believe Elite has a preset for it but take a look here

Joystick Recommendation : Thrustmaster T-16000m VS T-Flight Hotas X VS Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

Hi Everyone,
I just bought this game yesterday after trying it at my friend's house for ~30min with his Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S ... After going home and playing the game for a while I really find the controls with they keyboard and mouse to be not as fun... Maybe I just need to get used to it, but I really dont see myself enjoying dogfights as much, i just cant stand the mouse control and the thrust is also a lot less intuitive than using a dedicated hotas...

So, i started researching joysticks, my budget is fairly limited though, about 80$CAD max so I definitively cannot afford a X-55, but based on everything i've been reading it comes down to these 3 options:
Thrustmaster T-16000m
Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X
Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

I tend to lean more towards the Hotas X because it seems rather affordable considering it comes with the independant thrust hotas, but it doesnt seem to have enough buttons... Also the actual joystick is supposedly inferior / less accurate than the logitech and the T160000m which is supposed to be the best joystick out of these 3? ...

I think what I want to do most in this game is pvp / dogfights, so whichever joystick I use should be well suited for this task...
Also, I dont really care if the joystick doesnt last 10 years, even if it's 1 or 2 years it's ok especially since I dont even know if I'll enjoy Elite Dangerous for a long time (I tend to quickly lose interest in games, unless they are really good).

Thanks for the help!

I own a T-16000m. It is a very accurate joystick and build is pretty good. It is the most accurate joystick available in the price range, but for ED I wouldn't say that you really need that much accuracy. Also, the stick has a very good pressure feel to it.

The buttons on the base are poorly build and require variable effort to press. The buttons on the top of the stick are very good, though I 'd prefer to have more. I'd also prefer to have an analogue hat for thrusters. I think I'd have to step up to X52 to get it, but I'm not that comfy with Saitek's build quality.

Plenty of buttons gives me access to most functions and I barely have to reach for the keyboard. I use also SHIFT combinations to give multiple functions to same buttons. The base buttons on the left are for primary/combat stuff and on the right for secondary (landing gear, scoop etc)

I had to exchange the stick once after playing Planetside for about 6 months. The throttle pot gave out and started "trembling" too much.

I have the 3d pro, which is a decent joystick for the price. Although I've only had it about 6 months, and it's already got a little slop in the stick, plus it occasionally gets stuck and will drift or roll slightly once you take your off it.
So I've gone ahead and ordered the hotas-x as a replacement.

I recommend the Hotas X - I bought one a couple of weeks ago and am loving it. Not had any issues with accuracy or sensitivity.
Where did you order your from? Seems everywhere has them backordered, or they're price gouging because the supply is so low.
They keep pushing back the backorder dates too. Currently, shipments expected in early feb. :(

I've had a HOTAS X for a few days now and despite a few teething problems I have found it's definitely enhanced my experience of playing Elite Dangerous. It's in pretty high demand right now so watch the price (pretty sure Amazon imported a batch from a supplier in Germany to answer the demand but since receiving mine they seem to have bumped the price £20 or so), but all told it's worth getting once you've found a set-up you're comfortable with.

I have both the t-flight and the x52 pro.

The x52 pro is slightly better and the t-flight is completely unprogrammable for any keyboard shortcuts, but for the money the t-flight is awesome. If I weren't using an oculus and could easily use my keyboard I'd still be using that over the x52 pro.

You might have got a duff one then. Mines is 6 years old and apart from needing the buttom plate buttons cleaned and repositioned its in perfect nick. I did do a mod to it a wee while go to sort out the twist yaw as it was off center. But that was childs play, and for 6 year old stick its pretty bloody good. FYI I have had expensive sticks in the past from other manufacturers but most have failed soon after purchase or become irreparably off center.

I would definitely buy another 3d Pro if this one were to fail and needed a budget replacement.

Are you sure? If the T-Flight Hotas X is unpgrammable, wouldnt that be a major major flaw for a game like ED? How is it that people still recommend this product then?

I have a t flight. It was fine until the other day one of the buttons on the thrust stopped working. I looked inside and a little piece of plastic had broken, presumably die to minimal amounts being used around a screw hole. I've found a way to 'botch' the repair.

I haven't had this stick long, and I really like it, but I suppose you get what you pay for!

Logitech 3D you need to set up minor dead zones, because it will still steer when idle.

Fire button two once got stuck, I had to slap it to get it out. And it squeaks.
