Logitech 3D you need to set up minor dead zones, because it will still steer when idle.

Fire button two once got stuck, I had to slap it to get it out. And it squeaks.

True on the deadzones, its a touch soft in the center and needs them for it to be effective. Otherwise stick itself feels good spring wise and range. Button 2 getting stuck? Thats a new one on me, it was 11/12 doing that on mines. You using tip of your thumb or knuckle? I use knuckle. As for the noises, mines used to squeak when it was new, but it hasn't done that in years now.

All (non-hotas) joysticks kind of suck now. I wish CH would make a proper non-hotas single stick for our market. With throttle and twist to the FlightStick. Trim it up and give a slick look. Profit.
Saitek had great stuff before MadCatz put their Q in the crapper.

I use the knuckle. What kind of girly hands could possibly press that button with the tip? :/

Just thought I would ask, since you can do it that way its just really uncomfortable for me.

For all I know you could have teeny weeny hands. Doesn't hurt to ask :p

Are you sure? If the T-Flight Hotas X is unpgrammable, wouldnt that be a major major flaw for a game like ED? How is it that people still recommend this product then?
What he means is that you can't bind a keystroke to a button (eg pressing the trigger button would count as hitting Space Bar), which does create some limitations for games that don't have proper joystick support (although there are ways around this using 3rd party programs). For a game like ED that has full joystick support, it's not an issue.

Others might have already said, but the Hotas X is highly recommended for the price.

Ordered mine a few weeks ago from Amazon, it was on back order, however it was shipped on Thursday for delivery on Tuesday :D

Have been using the Keyboard & Mouse and it's not at all bad once you make a few changes to the defaults. I think Hotas X will be a lot than Keyboard & Mouse better for dog fights.

I went from KB/mouse (Saitek), to Cyborg V1 flightstick (also Saitek), to X52 (again, Saitek!) in one day. First time I have used HOTAS. Never going back.
P.S. Did I mention I like Saitek? :D

I bought the T-flight hotas X

It feels a bit toyish in the hands and I would have prefered it to be heavier, then I was expecting that for the price, but other than that it's a kick !

It responds really well and there's no shortage of buttons. I watched a ton of video reviews of various hotas, my other choices were the X52 and the X55.
From what I gathered the X52 is the golden standard of price/quality if you can afford it, the X55 has several issues, notably durability and not enough features to argue its price difference.

And then if you want to fly in style you might want to check out the Thrustmaster Warthog

Just means you can't set a keyboard command to a button. You can do everything in game to one.

Go X52 Pro.

Yes, thats a bit of a hefty sum for a stick, but trust me, its the best option. I have mine for 7-8 years now, and you see the age on it, as i used i quite often. Yet it still works flawlessly.

Any other stick would have broken by now. Heck, during those years I replaced EVERYTHING else of my PC, including my screen, Keyboard and mouse. Nothing is as durable as that goddam unbreakable X52 Pro.

Where did you order your from? Seems everywhere has them backordered, or they're price gouging because the supply is so low.
They keep pushing back the backorder dates too. Currently, shipments expected in early feb. :(

I live in Australia and we seem to have stock around the place.

Hotas is the least accurate joystick and whilst it is nice to have the throttle and joystick for actual combat it is pretty bad, the T-16000 is the most accurate of the bunch and will last much longer due to its design. The logitech 3D pro is also a nice joystick but is not quite as good as the T-16000.

rating from best to worse:

T-16000
3D Pro
Hotas X-flight

These are facts in the way the joysticks are manufactured, however personal preference might come in to play.

My Saitek ST290 Pro is going on 10 years with nary a problem, through many years of WarBirds and alpha/beta/release of WOWp.
If it ever does start to feel bad, and it I have lost a little range on the Z-pot, I'm going to look for a used X52 from circa 2004, or another ST290 used.
The current field of <$100 joysticks is just crap right now. And I don't really want a HOTAS, I prefer a single stick (with yaw/throttle) and keyboard.

Two-stick it!

I recommend the setup I am using: two Thrustmaster TM16000s. These sticks are reversible, for left or right hand use, so you can buy two and easily set up a two-stick control scheme.

My right stick does yaw and pitch. Left stick does roll and forward/backward thrust. Right hat does up/down and left/right thrusters. I use the throttle slider (with a high deadband) to set my "cruising speed" which is max for travel or in the blue zone for combat - then I use the left stick to quickly increase or decrease speed; when I release the stick, I automatically return to my selected cruising speed.

ED will recognize the two sticks as distinct entities, and will support button combos. So I use the stick buttons on the left stick as "shift" functions for the right stick. For example, right stick trigger fires weapons (duh) but leftstick trigger + rightstick trigger charges the FSD. With this ability to define button combinations, you wind up having plenty of buttons for everything. I only ever use the keyboard to type messages or look up system names.

Go X52 Pro.

I have the X52 pro and it's already in need of deadzones, the feel and asthetics is great on this stick and throttle, but unfortunately the core design aspects that are critical to its operation are made to fail.

T-Flight Hotas if you want to go cheap but good. But, if you can spare the cash go CH Figherstick and Pro Throttle. Built like a brick house! I think I'll have mine FOREVER!

Got a T16000, love it. Very accurate joystick for the price, day and night vs the T-Flight X. I really gained a lot of precision using a T16000, probably because it got magnetic contactors. It also got a linear pull while the T-Flight X got "two stage" (you have to increase the force you put in the joystick to pull it at one point because of the rubber base.)

It's a great joystick for the price but it will wear off after ~100h, i now have trouble to find the deadzone and i had to add silicon grease to make it smooth again (but i used it a lot in war thunder, and way, way too much in Elite :D) It's still very accurate tho.

I use the old Microsoft force feedback II, it now works again.

Me too, I'm curious how these other sticks compare to it. I really like the FFB2 but it seems to be gradually falling apart now, it seems the force strength in ED is a little too low to hold it together. So when in combat or trying evade interdiction, one of my main focuses is trying to minimise wear and tear on the stick - which is a bit tragic. Not sure if buying another one on eBay is a good idea. Not sure I like the idea of springs instead of forces though.
