Yup, for me it would be perfect if the throttle or stick had another 4-directional...nub like the one on the left of the stick, but it still works out well thanks to the "landing mode" of ED. And the cable is definitely not too short, I can fit a full-fledged desktop keyboard in there.

True, though it's my first hotas ever so I haven't any comparison. I was surprised that I got used to it that fast though.

Apologies for the double post but the forum won't let me edit my last comment with an update.

Anyway, just wanted to add that I picked up a Thrustmaster HOTAS X from Amazon.de. Had to pay £40 for it (inc p&P) but at least it is in stock and the price still beats a lot of the rip-off merchants who are exploiting the UK stock shortage. As a noob, I really didn't want to start playing without a HOTAS and then have to 're-learn' how to fly and I can't wait nay longer to get started! Should be here in 2-3 days :)

Gamepad or Joystick?

hi,
I'm thinking of getting a joystick for this game. any recommendations for what model and manufacturer would be the most effective. I currently use a 360gp and my keyboard. cost is not an issue:)

I started with the Logitech extreme 3D pro. Old stick but worked very well. Now on the t.flight Hotas X which is way better (in my view).
There are much more expensive sticks out there but if you can afford it I would certainly go for stick and throttle set-up, not a gamepad. Each to their own of course....

T-flight is a great stick for the money, loads use it to play ED.

I bought a Thrustmaster HOTAS X, the cheapest HOTAS i found, just to test if HOTAS was for me. And indeed it was!
Last week I picked up Saitek X52 Pro, and I am very happy with it! The game is so much more fun now.

I did have some driver issues, and I was afraid I had to return it. BSOD and freezing... After some googling I found the culprit. I have a MSI Gaming mobo with Intel processor, and the Intel USB 3.0 drivers conflicted with the Saitek drivers. Uninstalled the Intel drivers. Problem solved! I don't need 3.0...

For me, yaw on pedals is natural (because it's on every flight sim I've ever played) But unlearning the twist stick will be difficult. I would get the Pro Pedals first. Makes for an easier and more gradual transition from yaw on the twist stick to yaw on the pedals. And you can hold on to your 3D Pro until you absolutely have to replace it.

I am in a very similar boat as Kaare. I started with a Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X and had a blast for months with it. I decided to upgrade to a Saitek X52-Pro and had nothing but problems for two days as I struggled to install the drivers for it. Turns out that the X52 hates USB 3.0 and even though I have USB 2.0 headers in my mobo (ASUS Z97-A), the drivers refuse to install. Just plugging the X52 into a USB port on the computer causes lockups that I had to System Restore to resolve. It was ugly. I ended up buying a cheap 4-port USB 2.0 PCI card and installing it into a spare PCI slot in my rig and the first time I installed the drivers, boom, everything lit up and started working as expected. Whew! The X52-Pro is really sweet though with the extra buttons though I'm still trying to work out my button config.

Looking for a budget joystick setup (under £75)

So I'm looking for a new joystick setup since my saitek cyborg died (was a pile of spunk), I'd preferably not use saitek equipment again, my budget is about £75 (~110$) and I'll be mainly be playing elite dangerous, any suggestions welcome :)

all you need to do to fix usb driver conflicts is: unplug all usb devices, reboot and plug them back in one at a time. due to usb devices using same drivers they need to be aligned correctly. also do not remove and insert repeatedly this will also cause conflicts

I have the logitech extreme 3D flightstick. I love it.. it only costs about $30-$35 USD and it does have a throttle. It has a throttle , a trigger, a secondary weapon thumb button, 4 thumb buttons on top of the joystick, a POV hat, and 6 buttons on the base. Works great... when I bought it I was sceptical because of the amount of money people were spending on fancy HOTAS controllers... but it works really great for the money!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm mainly looking for a HOTAS setup, but I think I might go for the T1600M and get a separate throttle later when I can afford it
