I use both. Six axis joystick with hat in my left hand for all things maneuvering. Eleven button mouse in my right for headlook and weapon use. When I need that extra bit of accuracy, I turn off headlook with my KP_enter key and use the mouse for precision aiming.

No matter what, don't give up the ability headlook in combat. Visibly seeing my opponent is probably the biggest combat advantage I can possibly create for myself.

I got the same stick but I am not seeing the same problems - my only real problem is the Heatsink button needs remapping as it's too damn easy to hit it by mistake!
Have you checked the switch on the base as you may be in PS3 mode, hence the lack of analogue feel. Likewise, have you tried the throttle separate to the stick? I have no issue with them linked as I have limited desk space, but I am thinking of setting up a bracket on the edge of the desk so I can fix them up separately 'off' the desktop, making the keyboard easier to reach into the bargain.

Hey ED forums I've been playing ED since beta 2 and I've been playing it on and off ever since but recently I've gotten back into the game got myself a Type 6, Cobra and about 11,000,000 Credits but I've got a question.
I have two joysticks, I have the Thrustmaster Warthog and the Thrustmaster Hotas X. In my time in ED 90% of the time I've used my Hotas X, I feel like the Warthog is slightly overkill, especially the spring inside the Warthog, its very heavy and in ED you really dont need that kind of tension inside your joystick since you are in space, also after long gaming sessions your arm starts to ache. With the Hotas X I can move it anywhere I can even put it in my lap and just lie back in my chair and feel 10x more comfortable. Although the Warthog as many many more buttons.

So two questions really.
Which joystick do you use and post in the comments why.
Is your joystick mounted onto a frame/chair etc. E.g. Not just placed on your desk.

Thrustmaster Warthog, in an Obutto R3volution cockpit, on the specialized mounts. I've had the Warthog for about three years now, and I don't know that I could ever go back to my X-52 and all the slop in that spring. Especially since I'm also flying Rise of Flight, CLOD, and DCS with it.
I'm playing using a T-16000m and a CH Pro throttle. I've put a wooden beach chair in front of my 55" TV, and a stack of beer cases on either side of the chair as bases for the HOTAS.
This works really well. The chair is not too uncomfortable, the immersion is great, since the TV is so close and I'm sitting in the sweet spot of my surround sound.
The only downside is that I can't drink the beer.
I started with the T16000m only, as it is ambidextrous. I'm normally left-handed, but in order to use a throttle, I've trained myself to use my right hand for the joystick.
The T16000m is great for the price. Hall effect sensors for the X/Y axis, twist yaw (which I would really miss on a warthog or CH Fighterstick). The buttons could be better quality and I would really like a couple more hats. I wish Thrustmaster made a joystick for the vacant spot between the T16000m and the Warthog. Still made of plastic, with the precise hall effect sensors, twist yaw, lots of quality hats and buttons in an ergonomic layout.
The CH Throttle is just great to use. Smooth action, lots of tactile hats and buttons and an analogue thumb-joystick for thrusters. Many people owning CH products report them working as new after 15-20 years of use.

Warthog, mainly because I've had it before ED was even announced and I strongly dislike plastic, so if a metal/leather/wood peripheral is available, I'll go for that - if it isn't I'll have one custom built for me.

CH Fighterstick for me, not mounted. Why do I use it? I've always had good experienced with CH sticks, even since I got my first Flightstick Pro to play X-Wing and TIE Fighter (technically got my 2nd Flightstick Pro for those two games as well - I eventually managed to break the first one due to some, ah, spirited flying). This current stick was bought for playing Freespace 1/2, since by that time my newer computer no longer had the gameport the older sticks used, so I had to get a new one. Been using it ever since, with no complaints... or breakages.
Little bit personal for a family friendly forum.. Indeed, what should one divulge about one's joystick and one's preferred method of mounting? A broad church on these forums.....

Microsoft ffb2, because its still the best stick that was ever made, have a spare in the drawer picked up a while back in case it goes pop.

X52 (non-Pro) for me. Not mounted as such, but it's stuck to a plastic tray that I place on my lap. I find it much easier to control that way, as on the desk it would be too high for me (and take up too much space!).
X52-Pro for me, because I cannot offer the Warthog, and X52 non-Pro looks too much like a toy in my opinion.
Not mounted and I wish it were: my desk is a bit too high and I get pain in my shoulders when I play too long. It's getting somewhat serious I can tell you! So if you can get your mounted I am sure it would be better.

No dedicated gaming area, I play at the same desk where I work during the day so I just move the controllers off to the side. No dedicated stands or anything, perfectly comfortable with them on the desk. I'm normally multi-tasking anyway, and rarely sit straight enough in the chair to use the rudder pedals, so a dedicated gaming set-up wouldn't really work for me.
