You can set up both in game. I had a discussion a few weeks ago with someone who had the Cessna pedals. I can't remember if it was on this forum or the SC forum. He seemed very happy with them and preferred them to the Combat pedals

thanks, i'll give em a go.

I have just bought myself this joystick/throttle combo, and while it seems to work ok I'd love to hear how you have configured your setup - I am sure mine is sub-optimal given the number of knobs and settings available :)

Also, I can't get the mini joystick on the Throttle to do anything in the game; if you have a suggestion, I am all ears.

Thanks!

Hi There, i have the CH Pro Throttle and use the thumbstick for head look.

What have you got it bound to in the key bindings? If you have it set to head look you need to toggle headlook mode on before this input will do anything. sometimes you have to double toggle it on too. Just a little bug in the game.

I find as a good setup, the hat on the back of the throttle i use for things like landing gear toggle, cargo scoop toggle. The top 4-way hat on the front i use for lateral and horizontal thrusters and the bottom hat i use for hyperdrive and frameshift drive.

The three buttons on the back of the throttle i use for Afterburner/boost (index finger) Flight control off (middle) and switching to reverse (pinky).

When in UI Panels the index finger button is "select" and i use the top four way hat for navigating the menu up/down/left/right etc. And i usee the left/right on the middle 8 way hat for changing to next/previous UI tab.

Any buttons left i assign to things like turning ship lights on/off and changing the radar range.

Hope that helps.

TBH I was strongly considering the CH combo as well but reading the reviews on amazon it seems like the CH products and customer service is not as great as they used to be.
I am not saying Saitek is any better, thankfully I did not have to contact them yet.

We'll see how the X-55 works out in the long run, but I am ready to RMA it as soon as I find any issues with it.

I am using a CH Pro Throttle and am very impressed with it. Feels very Solid and less "rattle-y" and plastic than my old gear. I bought it on the basis of functionality. It seemed to me to have the best setup of buttons/hats.

I haven't had to deal with support so can't comment on that. Paid NZ$160 for the CH PRO throttle. Worth every Penny.

anyone, know why i cannot look up down left or right? i keep going to the custom controls and setting keys for these actions but they never work.
Am i doing something wrong?

are you toggling "head look on" first?

Before "look left" will work you have to hit the "toggle head mode" button on.

Very annoying feature. And to make matters worse it will forget that you've toggled it on everytime you go into or out of hyperspace/FSD or use a UI panel, so you will be constantly toggling headlook back on.

Please fix devs :)

At the moment, the joystick I will use is...well, whatever stick I can get my hands on really. Most good sticks seem to be sold out everywhere

Have you considered CH Products? not as "mainstream" as Saitek i'd say so might be more available. I had no trouble getting my CH Pro Throttle.

joystick and hotas

does any body have a set up for a joystick throttle and rudder peddles for a Logitech g940 as i can not seem to get the setting to work for me very well any help would be welcome

whats the best joystick?

hey, was wondering which joystick to get.

not one with throttle, as the ones without seems cheaper and one hand on keyboard is fine i think. would be cool with a good cheap one with throttle tho!

things to consider:

Price, not too pricy, can afford a x52
goodnes, want it to be good :)

thats it haha, come with what you think i should buy, why their good, bad etc.

I use the Mad Catz Fly 5 from Cyborg. It's a lot cheaper than a HOTAS stick but still comes with a throttle and is adjustable to your own hand size.....looks really funky as well....serves me well for ED.

My Elite Dangerous Dual Joystick Couch and Table Setup

Been using a Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS X and it's a fine stick.

Managed to get a 2nd hand X52 Pro from ebay for £50 which is also nice :)

so between cats fly 5 and thrustmaster, which is the best? and are they good enough or better than just joysticks in that price range?

Well, in regard to using no throttle, ED offers alot of possibilities to set I think quite two hand full of speed settings for key presses, e.g. 25%, 50%, 75%, 0%, etc. if I remember correctly (don't have the config available atm).

On the other hand instead of wasting 10 keyshortcuts to 'finetune' your speed accordingly (you don't want to fly full Speed into the Station and possibly need to brake if some other player comes along) I would prefer a throttle.

Just as a thought if you still want to go without a hotas.

The T-Flight HOTAS X is excellent value for money. If feels good and has just enough buttons.

Anyone know if you can use these on Mac OS? I know you need Windows for the current Beta, but don't want to buy a HOTAS that won't work with the Mac release. Anyone know? Thanks!

I have the fly 5 as well and I think its perfectly adequate for the game. It has 22 buttons (if you press the shift button at the bottom) and if you combine it with Voice attack which is something I think everyone should buy since its only $8 then thats all you need. No need to spend an obscene about of money on the X52Pro or X55 even if they do appear to be the most popular sticks for the game.

This will be just opinions of an individual user and only a true `which is best` can come from people who have used more than one hotas etc.

I have an X52 and think its really good, but whether its the best i could not say as i have not tried any others.....

Don't know about best but the Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS X is doing very nicely.
Don't be too quick to dismiss separate throttle, I find it very useful.

Man, how many time's do i have to tell you young blood's. The bestest and most wicked joystick that ever shot down them wicked pirate's and did it with a fluid, fluent joy was...wait for it......................................................................................................................The Microsoft Force Feedback 2 Sidewinder, hell, in the original ELITE game they had a ship called the Sidewinder, do you dig ? Yeah i know that you dig...hehe...:)
