Using Microsoft Sidewinder FF 2 Joystick and Driving Force GT Steering Wheel (using the pedals), also a secondary mini keyboard beside me makes this a complete setup and very happy with it.

I ended up buying a cheapo Thrustmaster HOTAS X that is supposed to be delivered today. If that doesn't work to my satisfaction I may spring for the X-52 Pro.

I've had my HOTAS X for years and I still love it.
Favourite feature is the Yaw Paddle on the Throttle Quadrant.
I can't abide Twist Yaw and pedals won't fit my current physical set-up.

Thinking of buying another for a spare in case this one wears out.

Beats me why there aren't more sticks with that Left hand Yaw option.
It's great for combat flight sims.
I believe there was an old Saitek model which had one but it's discontinued.

Well I take the warthog. Bit expensive. Also checked out DCS interesting. Steam F2P. And lot of pay DLC. One of them F15C which give me this co-op nostalgia feeling.
Then I can test "drive" or fly ED. The way it meant to be piloted

taotoo..the Ch Fighter stick is VERY appealing also for its buttons. CH makes really quality stuff, no question. But I really, really would miss the twist on the 16000m. In fact without the twist I would likely be lost at the moment. It really helps greatly. I really wish CH would make a stick with a twist...

Have you experimented at all with the throttle's joystick thingy?

Personally I never found twist natural at all - personal thing probably.

How is it mechanically on the 16000m - does it introduce wobble and deadzone type issues at all?

Hi all

I just got my X52 pro the other day and finally got it setup for elite. I have noticed one thing that seems to be funny..

The throttle LEDs flicker, and the two rotary switches jiggle a little, I use the joystick in ED and is DCS Huey and have zoom on the rotary switch (this is how I first notice the rotary jiggle.

From doing a search users seem to suggest its cable, but I've tried the usb cable in all the ports on the PC which makes no difference.

is it faulty ? - it's brand new !

Any ideas?

Thanks

Having had issues with hand discomfort in the past with controllers and sticks, the first thing I'll try if I experience that with my new Hotas will be driving gloves (even homemade ones). Fingerless gloves with strategic padding - works for racing why not flight sticks?

Hmmm maybe I could buy a laid off flight suit from the Swedish air-force and then hook it up with face-mask, oxygen and a old motorcycle helmet :D

All for immersion

Cheers Cmdr's

Using TM Warthog + a Saitek Pro-flight rudder pedals, also have a set of cougar mfd's which I have yet to try with ED yet.

I bought an X52 Pro two months ago and it took a couple months for stock to arrive (we're in the middle of the great joystick famine of 2013-14 in the UK it seems, NOBODY has mid-high end joysticks in stock it seems). Although I noticed scan just got a bunch of CH sticks in stock.

I had similar problems to you with my X52 pro - it seems to have trouble with modern motherboards (mine is a Z97 chipset) i had to disable usb3 functionality and there is also a bug with teamspeak 3 that can cause the flicker and lock your system up. Your X52 pro is NOT broken it is simply a peripheral device designed 10 years ago and just doesn't seem to get on too well with modern systems. I recommend wither putting up with it.. or sending it back.

After waiting 2 months to get mine I took the painful decision the other day to send it back using the 14 day cool off law for distance selling. I am either going to go for the X55 which IS modern and will work properly with my mobo OR spend much less money and get a thrustmaster Hotas X. Atm there is a total lack of a mid range HOTAS in the price range filled by the X52 and X52 pro. But those sticks need replacing with modern versions soon!

@Tommyttk

Thanks for explaining about the x52 pro and my board, glad it's working. My mobo is fairly new - it's has a i7-4770k CPU (not really up on the techy stuff).

I don't use usb3, how can I disable this? would like to see if that helps, I also don't use team speak so don't think it's that.

Thanks

On my Asus z87 board I found that turning off the xHCI settings in the BIOS did the trick, downgrading all USB3 ports to USB2 and "solving" the X52 problem. But this is only a valid method if you definitely don't need USB3.

One longer term solution, if you find you do need USB3 and aren't willing to wait for (or suspect your manufacturer will never produce) compatible drivers, may be to install a cheap PCIe USB card and use that for the X52. Ideally you want one that doesn't use the same chipset as your mainboard just to be on the safe side and avoid any driver issues. Then you can re-enable xHCI for your mainboard ports and have USB3 there too.

As ever with hardware and drivers, YMMV.

Finally dug out the old Logitech Wingman Force 3D I suspected I had lying around - was very sloppy and after disassembling it and applying some creative thought in the right places, managed to get it feeling pretty good.

... and after defending keyboard and mouse quite strongly, now I want to get a HOTAS setup  Of course, what I really want to do is build my own...

Biggest annoyance with the cheap sticks is where they place the throttle - any other suggestions for when I wear this one out? Or something without a throttle?

A CH Pro throttle will work with any other joystick, so instant HOTAS.

They are *excellent* for E: D - the microstick is perfect for thrusters, and plenty of switches and buttons. Also will not fall apart after 18 months.

Updated CH Product Joystick Maps

I've created a GitHub repository containing my updated joystick maps and config files if people are interested. There's installation instructions and a fairly comprehensive breakdown of the setup. It's for a Fighterstick and Pro Throttle, although it would be easy enough to update to add Pedals.

Thrustmaster Hotas-x and Logitech G940

What have I done?!?!?!?!

I was just getting a step above mildly incompetent with my TM Hotas-X and found a G940 on Ebay and thought: "Oh yah, purdy green lighted buttons, oodles of hats, switches and various other gizmos!!" :D

To other players I must look completely wasted trying to move around with all the options I can inadvertently hit by mistake.

And what the stink is so grand about rudder pedals? Or is this one of those "re-learning" things after getting used to the twisty stick?

And trying to find a comfortable position to get all 3 components into is (seemingly) harder than accomplishing a master level yoga position,,,,

Now I know why people like to build virtual cockpits,,,,,,,,

Since everything is going to get wiped clean once the final game is released I guess I will throw myself into learning this "upgraded" control system.

In the short term, if you run into Cmdr Riktar, I assure you I have not been drinking, it just looks that way,,,,,,,,,,, :p

Saitek X55 Rhino

After going through 4 different controllers, I am in love with the X55 Rhino. After gleaning all the information on the forum it was between the X52 or the X55 And between these two the X55 won out. :)

Not sure where best to post this, there are lots of threads and several hundred pages on controllers.

Anyhow, I was wondering if there had been any discussion of the need for more specific commands, for example discrete commands for landing gear up/down rather than the current toggle.

This kinda stuff is essential for anyone wanting to properly assign functions such as landing gear/cargo scoop/lights etc. to the toggle switches on the Warthog (and X55 by the looks of it), but would also be very useful for people using voice commands.

Also, it would be great to be able to bind commands which are currently only available through the UI such as switching engines on and off.

That would definitely put me in the category of one of those people :p Considering I purchased a 3rd monitor for E: D, it may be inevitable

For the moment I'm playing around with shift buttons and the like - any suggestions for how I can manage 1x POV hat + 4x buttons + trigger? I can set up (almost) unlimited shifts via vJoy and a FreePIE script - just need to work out what I want them to all map to (reference image).

I'm using an old X-45 I bought to play Jumpgate in about 2001. It's OK, now I've ziptied the return spring but I've messed up the driver install so it is running default windows drivers and I can't use the mode/shift buttons.

The good news is the rocker rudder, I can't stand twist-yaw setups.
