Ships The Keelback Club

I had to buy the chromed paint kit. I missed out on it last time but I must say it looks really nice and changes depending on location.

Hello Keelback Club, Im a new player in E:D, and here is my short story how I got here:

Grinded up with a 20t Hauler from start I bought a T6. With my fresh T6 I did a quick run on this years Xmas event (Cemiess food deliver). In around 30 mins I did tons of short jumps form system to system, refuelled two times, across half a dozen in anarchy state area, and NPC pirate attacks evaded, I travel 174 Ly to MacKenzie relay (mission obj.). Then my luck ended.

Interdicted by an well-known infamous griefer (who collects youtube footage of killing newbies) got me and executed my stationary ship in around 3 secs. I lost everything: money, ship, valuable cargo, grindtime, hope in the bright future. My fault that I have no money for insurance, so I restart with the Sidewinder.

That was the point I said for this game okthxbyeuninstall.

After I tell my unfortunate story on this forum, I met some very friendly players, who helped not to turn away forever. One of them advised to pause the game for 2 weeks and restart it with cool head. He lent me 10 void opals for restart, what I sold at Kooni Resort, Malina System. For cool head there is still a weak left, but after my first job will the repay of the loan. Its around 10M Cr, so I must do missions: Minor Faction Ranking, Courier, Carry, Supply, BlackBox and Low-Level NPC Assassination.

Because I know the T6, I choose her armoured sister the KB. After reading back sme pages here, this is my planned setup:
https://s.orbis.zone/1gcn

1, Im not sure of PointDefs usefullness, its on the top-back of the ship. I choose turreted lasers, beause of no heat, no ammo, and with slow turning they can shoot some angles what out of reach with manual targeting (Im KBAM, not easy). Also with a fresh but expensive experienced NPC pilot with Plasma repeater Condor, to finish my job after I lowered enemy shield - Condor will pursue and destroy. Maybe Class 1 missiles at lower hardpoints?

2, Shield Gen: Im totally uncertain, I need the 32t cargo hold, but switch on Class 5 or Bi-W? Collector limpet is for BlackBox, but change to more hull and use cargo scoop? Docking system is for my noobility, maybe later I will sell it. Thrusters do the optimal mass, but change for A grade with some downsizing at other parts?

3, Next step after? To strenghten my ship: Search for Felicity/Serene? Or forget it and collect more Crs to change next hangar-able ship (Crusader)? (This build costs 10M and insurance is 500K). Or I should go for 4 weeks to PackHunter.

Thanks for reading this. Im a PC player, but I will longtravel to Origami in the first week of January :) (Sorry for bad Anglish, GGL is my friend...)

The Keelback is a better SLF carrier than the Crusader which forces you to pick 2 out of 3 options - SLF hangar, shield or cargo capacity. Stick with the Keelback until you can afford the Krait Mk2 which can also carry an SLF. Farseer offers many upgrades so she's a good engineer to go to.

Missiles and lasers work well with the SLF, they allow you to attack the target at a distance while your SLF harasses it at a closer range. Switch to gimbals after you've become more comfortable with this setup because gimballed weapons hit harder than the turreted version

The Keelie is a nice ship, it's very flexible (though slow) and runs cool. Some people rigbit for silent running and use reverb cascade torpedoes to hunt players in bigger ships. That's advanced though :)

Welcome to the club Commander!

Or turn that Keelback into a smalltime Void Opal mining ship and make some serious cash while enjoying the new gameplay. You won’t have enough room left for a hangar, but you will have enough for a whole new Keelback set however you like after a single, successful mining run.

Hi there and welcome!

Your build is very similar to the one I run with, with only a few differences. https://s.orbis.zone/1gxq

I find this the setup that meets my demands the best. The keelback responds well to engineering especially the drives. The shield will never be strong on the keelback (well with guardian tech it can be) so I went with fast charging biweave with high resistance and a single shield booster to increase resistance. The 2A SCB can be used to top up and doesn't overheat the ship. The rest of the setup is designed to collect engineering materials when I happen to encounter them.

Any signups from Keelback Club members to the Distant Worlds 2 community event?

I'll be signing up soon :)

Unfortunately I started very late with engineering and currently only have level 1 with Farseer and two other engineers. Not enough to make my Keelback exploration ready alas so it's the DBX for me. At least it's a Lakon ship.

Would be more than happy to join a squadron of Keelbacks. Gearing my DBX for mechanic/fighter escort roles. Planning to join the Fleetcomm PG which is a no-PVP zone.

If anyone wants to try a keelback out, or just see what the view is like in one, access the slf training mission.

Talking of taking a keelback for a jaunt; I've gone over my exploration keelie that took me to beagle point earlier this year but which has been sadly gathering cobwebs since. Now that the guardian FSD booster is a thing, I've included a class 5 and had to do some jiggery pokery with the power consumption but the old girl has now a jump range of just over 50ly! In a keelback!

I'm on an expedition (but not DW2) and I wish I took my Keelie instead of the orca I'm in . The orca is better in every way except I don't like it. Ho hum.

Why did I think I needed to try something different? I'm now thinking is it too late to fly back to base to swap ships? Very very tempted.

Do it!!

My current PvE Combat build KB.

Jump range 28.47, pursuit boost speed 406. High Capacity Corrosive MC helping against hulls (turned on in a second fire group when enemy shield is down), with a multi-cannoned F 63 Condor. Railgun+Feedback Cascade effect for blocking shield recharges. No heat or power problems. IMHO 0B KWS is more efficient than 0A (0A costs more and eats up too much power for that bonus 1 km), and generates the same bounty. Sensors are 11 km and just 5t (useful in CZs). Beam lasers working with pip 3. (Supercruise assist is working, just coriolis disabled it). FSD Deep Charge can jump longer than Mass Manager. 4A Fuel Scoop is only mediocre in efficiency, but I need that Bi-W SH more in battles. SCB Spec+Boss helps a lot.
