The Majority of Players, Play Elite as a Single-Player Non-PvP Experience?

But it was explicitly stated this wasn't about open vs solo. It's about people who play alone even in open vs people who play in groups.

Frontier absolutely knows this from their telemetry. They know how many people are trying to join instances. Multicrew and such have been abandoned precisely because they know not many people are wanting it.
I think you are correct - however it's fair to point out that people don't use multi-crew because it's broken and sucky.... so kind of a self fulfilling prophecy

I play VR, and doing that, it somehow becomes very complicated to chat with other players. Also, I'm too old to figure out why my microphone ain't working, or how to hear other CMDRs. It's too complicated, so I mostly just shoot (back) at them 🔫:alien: ED mirrors reality in so many ways.

Mostly I'm alone in Open. I like the element of risk that a hollow square may become a triangle but tend to not seek trouble, although I quite enjoy the rush of diving through potentially hostile cmdrs at the usual hotspots.

I've seen the rebuy screen a handful of times at the hands of a cmdr but I've also sent a handful there myself but don't seek pvp. I have the finances to not notice the credits so there's been no salt to speak of but if I can't be bothered with the risk I feel no qualms about an evening in Solo.

Some of my favorite times have been with other like minded pilots though, many occasions during DW2 for instance, randomly winging up with others in a res site, but especially hooning around in a convocation of eagles with pilots from the NG squadron.

... Much more people would play PvP when FD would make it more interesting. Nothing is more dynamic and unique as challenging player interaction.
For you maybe, many of us don't want to interact with other players at all, you might find it dynamic and interesting, i just find it annoying to be interrupted by someone who just wants to shoot at me.

First up this isn't about solo vs open, so don't even go there. :D This is about how people play regardless of mode.

Here's an interesting stat. Naturally it's from YouTube, so comes with all the usual conditions (non scientific etc).

30k votes so far, representing a sizeable chunk of players.

Now, I'm known for being a solitarily exploration player - some of my video content is aimed at that. You would be excused then for assuming that my viewers are naturally similar. So, to balance out the audience, here's a question from Exigeous a very social player who is PvP focused.

And finally, another question from Exigeous about PvP.

Very Interesting Numbers!

I never understood the whole solo open pg debate in this game it has all three options why the fuss
That was mostly a group of the open players annoyed that the solo players were safe from them, the big debate was back when FD cancelled the single player offline mode which had mot to do with it then needing an always on internet connection rather than anything to do with multiplayer.

I originally started playing in our PG because you can't take HighRes photos in Open.

As an explorer, that's a must. Sure I could switch but given how rarely I interact with other people as an explorer, I just stay in the PG automatically now.

I always play in open, apart from rare occasions when visiting known griefing hotspots (engineers) in deliberately weak (explorer, racer) ships. Multicrew with new folks is also brilliant.

I recently got involved in the mass battles in open in the anti xeno conflict zones in the Pleiades, which is an amazing experience; loads of commanders in the same instance, no problems. A more experienced xeno hunter did (rather pointedly) kill my npc ship launched fighter because it was getting in the way. Pretty effective way of saying, “friend, stop it with the SLF...” :)

I’ve killed other commanders. They had it coming. :)

Sadly I have no deadly enemies in game, although I was considering becoming a shadowy assassin on an opt-in basis. So if you’d like a well prepared, ruthless enemy who could turn up and assassinate you at any time, let me know :)

Gotta take into account that this poll is conducted after 6 years of barely functional and mostly non-functional P2P netcode that has decimated the Multiplayer community.

It's like taking a poll asking "who here is a dinosaur and who is a mammal?" 6 years after the Chicxulub impact event.

Solo/private player here. 99% Solo though being that none of my friends play anymore...

That said... 30k is more than the game's all time peak on steam, which was very recent (Odyssey launch). I'd say it's a fair body count of the population.

Not surprising though, between connectivity issues among other... 'concerns' theres plenty of motivation to just solo it with out a reason to go open.

Honestly, I think I'd like ED way more if it was a purely offline experience with co-op baked into it. Wish they never abandoned that.
