The Majority of Players, Play Elite as a Single-Player Non-PvP Experience?

I recently purchased a second account on Steam because of the US$7.49 sale, and started off with the n00b area to see what it was like. I saw that it was defaulted to Open, so I figured I would give it a try. And you get a free advanced docking computer too, so I figured I'd try that out too.

At the main hub station, damn near every single time I used auto-launch, I would get stuck in the departure queue, with the "leave or die" counter ticking down relentlessly because of some blocking the mail slot, until I took manual control and went past them. I imagine that's got to be a nice welcome to the game for new players to get blown up because of a traffic jam.
So I switched back to solo play and didn't have that problem.

This is not surprising. P2P matchmaking often doesn't work. Multiplayer doesn't work. No player trading, no social tools. Player factions are cumbersome and meaningless.
Players that prefer playing socialy left years ago and they're not coming back.

I play in open usually, but tend to be more singular. I don't really like PVP or doing stuff with other players for extended periods of time, but I like other players being on around me. I'd prefer short business interactions with other players, strictly in character. No acknowledgement it's a game. That's what ruined the whole guardian stuff. They introduced it in game stuff but 99% of the conversations happened out of universe in internet forums.

There needs to be an in game completely in character Message board built around in universe interaction within the Galnet. Especially for fuel rats and other such services. I hate that they are all out of universe. Same with expeditions.

With this, player factions could offer specialized missions to get no affiliated players to help them. Frontier could use this to give the people we read about on the Galnet a presence.

Agreed. PG and Solo only. Open is just a joke and doesn't really satisfy anyone. It only creates false expectations and broken dreams. But we weren't going to talk about modes here, were we?

Nono, course not. I mean theres always the [redacted], and the issues with [redacted]/[redacted], as well as the [redacted] and [redacted] which leads to [redacted], not to mention all the [redacted]... But yeah nah, not for here.

Personally. I don't like people all that much in general. Individuals, sure, but the human beast? No. Even in full on no issues with instancing with others etc MMO's, I'd tend to be off doing my own thing, only very rarely getting involved with other players (unless someone was picking on a newb, in which case I'd organize a gank the jerk-a-thon).

Too many blown offs when i tried to reach an engineer.. people are dumb -.-

The problem for me is not pvp, the problem are high-specialisied engineered ships from shady people so that the victims not stay a LITTLE chance after the first 2 hits oo

I play alone because that's the experience that I wanted when I bought the game. Gaming for me is primarily a solitary pursuit where I'm alone with my thoughts and absorbed in the game world.

Although by definition that also means no pvp in Elite, it's not that I'm like 'oh noes! PVP!' and trembling in fear at the thought of it - it's just a complete irrelevance because the experience I want from the game has already precluded it without any additional considerations being needed.

I'm a solo only player and this poll does not surprise me.
These results are likely caused by a combination of 2 factors.

a) ED has a more adult playerbase than most online games and therefore the playerbase is less interested in pew-pew gameplay. I would also wager most adult gamers have already had their fill of griefers/idiots spoiling the online experience so find it best to stay away from online gaming altogether.

b) Poor instancing and netcode hampering the online experience.

do you even have a choice in most cases of playing alone?

even if you wanted to play with other people, the structure of the game makes that difficult to make work, not to mention difficult to coordinate given the lack of in-game communication hubs.

Most of the time group play's main benefit is just not being bored, rather than there being a real need and benefit to playing together.

So yea, most people play sessions by themselves, whether they want to or not.

Majority of my many hours (about 75%) have been played in Solo these rest in private groups. The game to me is a co-op/single player game with no interest in pvp.

I've played mostly 'solo in open', but enjoy a little casual banter and silly conversation while sitting on a dock in a station between cg runs. 2 years in, a ship literally named 'runaway' and still mostly harmless so, not you could say i'm not much of a PVPer. although i enjoy that its there despite having been its victim here and there.

Playing a bit more in actual solo with Odyssey atm until i get my feet under me a bit in terms of dealing with base missions.

My main account has had some amazing times paying with my friends in Loren's Reapers, this account with the Teabaggers (of course!) as well as a handful of players who prefer 'socialising' in a PG.

But, I could openly admit that most of my play is alone, mainly due to the times I play, mostly...

I have over 130 in my friends list and typically have about 10 in game when i am playing. By far the majority will be in pg or solo.
I have noticed this for a long time nothing new here

If you understand the nature of Open, you also understand that this statement is completely pointless, no matter if true or not.
Btw, who was the first one who stated this? Sandro?
I think it was during one of the community streams. It may have been Sandro.

I take it you mean that it is tough to instance with someone in Open, so Open isn't really Open?

I miss MMO days with dozens of people in city centers or collaborating on big boss fights.
