A month after their offices at Elwood's Vision were bombed, The Marlin Standard is back from an undisclosed location.
The dictatorship Close Encounters Corp has announced "snap elections" in the Marlinist Capital of Concordia to seek justification for their invasion and proposed annexation.
This comes over a month after their invasion of the Marlinists began. On September 13, 3308 Close Encounters Corp. “claimed” Concordia, demanded the democratic Marlinist government disband, and that the Marlinists accept that they are now a “protectorate” of Close Encounters Corp. Since that date, they have also claimed the Marlinist Colonies of Haven and Beatis Secundus and have worked to overthrow the Marlinists governments there as well.
The Marlinist Constabulary has been on the front lines fighting since the beginning and were able to reduce the fighting to fringe skirmishes until Close Encounters Corp. made an alliance with fellow dictatorship Union Cosmos. The combined forces have stretched the Marlinist defenses thin and has given the usurpers renewed life.
The authorized militia of the Marlinists, the Dark Wolf Marlinists, has vowed that they will “never again submit to live under the thumb of a dictator” and that their fight will only end when the enemy is removed from Marlinist territory. Praetor Gyfiawn Gryfudd stated, “we will fight until the end of our days if necessary.”
Back in Union Cosmos territory, it appears the fighting is not favored by regular citizens as many factions have started challenging Union Cosmos for control of systems over the last few weeks, including the system of Maris where Union Cosmos is no longer in control.
A Marlinist Auxiliary Militia has been formed for any independent pilots that want to formally assist in the defense of the Marlinist Colonies.
Otherwise the Marlinist Consulate is asking for any independent pilots sympathetic to the Marlinist plight, to head to Concordia and work to undermine this “election” called by the invaders.
