Good Idea?

fter the ejected piece immediately. Wrong... now I mine, once nothing is coming out anymore, I collect (so all parts are 'still' in space and move around anymor :)

You don't want to spend too long though since (like cargo canisters) the chunks of rock decay and eventually vanish

agreed, but after two-three roids, you get the hang of rapidly picking them all up, I think I get them all (10-12) in about 60 seconds, less if I don't have to look right to assign a refine.

But yeh, did forget to mention they disappear, I think its 5 mins in space, so mine 6 and then collect, if you are not confident to collect, or if it is any of the good stuff you don't want to lose out on

I have a feeling that mining is really intended for the larger ships, there are rumours that there will be cargo drones,I think these drones will be utilized for the collection of the mined fragments, this all makes sense when you consider that anything smaller than a hauler has barely enough cargo space to collect enough mined material to make real money that and lack of module space.Just my opinion of course.

Oh and I forgot to mention the large ships are not very nimble and would have difficulty picking up the frags via the scoop.
There is indeed a mention of a "cargo drone" in the game's files, but it could simply be the cargo hatch disruptor, or even that drone that is supposed to move cargo around in stations that we've seen on concepts. But I'd bet on the first, considering those files were already being used in the beta 3.

Otherwise devs have made it pretty clear that you'd have to scoop your ore.

yeah mining is fun. what i would love to know is how much i can gather from a roit. i mean ether the Roit vanishes when its empty or scanner that tells me "ok you are done... i kow there is still a huge rock and you can see the metal on it´s texture but belive me you are done" . but i geas that will come before release.

I presume mining is low yielding at the moment because we can not yet detect the vest roids and seams in them.

I dont think the mining mechanic has been thought out just to mine willy nilly as we all seem to be doing now. Done in this simple way it make sense that the feeling is yields are low. But after they release them, get those probes and sensors to detect the best roids/seams as described in the DDA and we should be hopefully back in business.

Either that or just my wishful thinking :D

yeh, hopefully a roid scanner of sorts (ditch the planet/star scanner for it maybe, or another slot.... or adapt the standard scanner to be able to do this).

Will be interesting to see where this 'mining' goes in future updates

Found a system with rings that had silver, gold and palladium...too bad scooping is such a chore.

What I'd like to see is a fire-able grapple (L1 weapon hard point) with a restricted range (say 100 meters) and you must hold lock until contact and snare...auto retract to cargo bay. Would be faster and a bit more fun than scooping each chunk.

or we could have a big space net and drop it over all the rocks like a trawler.. lol just joking a big space bamboo pole with a net on the end would be fun we could swish it around like catching butterflies..
really cargo scoops are fine they are `elite` massey fergerson beams are star trek
my problem is brightness of mining laser cant we have sun canopy i may be a vampire because im finding beta 3 too bright in a lot of places

I kinda like these ideas, the grappling is a good one, but aslong as you still have to do something, like the mentioned target keep in sight, a bit like the KWS

I found everything I need at chu station and I had to get rid of my scanner to get the refinery :( why oh why I could not use a free slot is beyond me

Would you like a bot to play the rest of the game for you incase that is too time consuming? I mean you will have 400 billion systems to explore!!

My dear friend,
i presume you aren't below an average IQ and depending on this i wanna write u an answer. Of course i did not mention about a bot. And its Space simulation which is you cant use auto macros / key pressers / etc . There are several types of players in E : D some of them are bounty hunters some of them pirates, some of them are smugglers and some players are miners like me. If u played any space sim before you should be noticed miners are always having hard work. tons of ores, vulnerable ships , low maneuver capable ships, etc etc its mostly like a herbivore among the predators...
and yes i am involving with exploration of 400 billion star systems... especially ones with the rich asteroid belts. in this condition i was just asking "are there any ways to improve mining speed and fragment collection?" That is the main question here.
And i did like to thank you for your kind answer up there...

New Player Mining Help (Where's the Stuff?!)

Hey everyone,

Just started playing a day or two ago. Very awesome so far. I did some trade runs, ran a few combat missions, and decided to buy a hauler.
I have a mining laser and a refinery on board. My issue so far is finding something to mine!
I've been out exploring for the last couple hours of gameplay, making some decent creds off of the information I'm gathering, and its fun and all... but the reason I'm out here in space in a flying shoehorn is to find Gold dammit! (or, you know, other more valuable things.)

Where do I find something to mine? What are the objects in space that have mine-able materials? I investigate unidentified signal sources here and there, but those just seem to be criminals hanging out with the po-po.

Advice? Just trying to make a buck.

Cheers,
KombattWombatt
