Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Not sure that guy knows what 'definitive proof' means. Its just more vague tweets.

Retracted it as I found something way more interesting .. the truth will come out .. perhaps the new link is just it ?! ;)

User gossi posts this:

I packet captured my PS4. When the servers are online, no player movement data is sent to servers, either in space or planet side. It simply doesn't transmit where you are, or any world sharing information.
It does transmit your Discovers, and a diary of planets you have visited. I imagine that is for the Easter eggs.

Packet capture confirms that the sever does not track your movement, nor does it even know your location. It cannot match up two players and put them in the same instance. There is simply no netcode to support multiplayer in the PS4 version of the game with the latest patch.

Seems I might owe Fuzzyspider an apology.

So, according to "a programmer" we have definitive proof that you can see other players. Based on dubious parsing of tweets... the same thing that STARTED all of this.

Look at the comments section there. You guys wonder how people can believe this game is multiplayer? There's your answer.

I have said this multiple times in this thread.

Missed your post on that fact .. can't rep you for this one either - need to spread the love, so have a virtual one for the post that you did say "no netcode"

Makes me wonder .. why ?! Clearly something happened as the box was ready to ship with MP .. then labelled out; code removed ?

As a result I have cancelled my PC order until HGs explains themselves - that's how fkin annoyed I am right now. FD all over again !

Yes, 1500... but... JOURNEY! "Sean" defines multiplayer differently than you or I! HOW DO YOU KNOW THERE ISN'T ANY!?!? IT'S AN ALPHA!

Oh wait, wrong thread.

Perhaps when a developer talks about a feature that will never be in the game we should call it "putting on the Chris Roberts wig".

Example" Sean just put on this CR wig when talking about multiplayer.

I love that the most upvoted response to that is some nonsense about "they simply disabled the "matchmaking" features for day one while they ensure that the servers can handle the load of people discovering more species than exist on Earth every day."

And then someone chimes in with "Apparently I was told that Hello Games couldn't implement it because Battlefield's multiplayer destruction physics took a lot of resources."

Uh huh. Sure. They just have to flip the switch! Also Sony ate their homework.

EDIT: Good lord. Someone actually said that, too: " So, no, just because it doesn't work now doesn't mean it won't work or it will never work. it literally just mean it doesn't work NOW. We might get multiplayer in the next update, or the next one. Maybe we will get it tomorow. For all we know, it's as easy as flipping a switch..."

Not sure how people got the idea that people would be able to meet up in this game. It was quite clearly designed as a SP game with some netwokring to handle discoveries. Are people really getting salty that meeting up is not possible?

Not sure how people got that idea? Well because they were told that.

I can't help but think that Sean Murray must be bashing his head against a wall right about now. How many times does he have to say 'Single Player' and 'no multiplayer' before it actually sinks in?

No Man’s Sky Dev Stresses Game is Not Multiplayer

"No Man's Sky is not a multiplayer game," reminds Sean Murray. It's meant to be "very very chill."

I'm finding the level of wilful stupidity painful to watch, so he must be beyond exasperated and well round the corner of hysterical.

NMS' advertising campaign, with it's vagueness about what the game actually *was*, has created a situation where people have created their own vision of what the game would be for months now. All games have this problem to a degree, but NMS seems to be off the scale when it comes to expectations and assumptions. I don't blame the developer, necessarily - it is what is is.

I don't have a lot of interest in NMS myself, mainly due to the art direction which really isn't my style. Also now that I know that the core of the experience is basically a survival kind of thing.... ehhhh.... just not for me. Could be for anyone else, of course, so more power to you if you're into it. :)

Yeah but months ago he said something different, so he must be lying now! /s

I don't see it as wilful stupidity, I see it as people wanting something to be true and hoping that ignoring evidence to the contrary will make it true. There's also the effects of bandwaggoning, people who cannot bear to be "wrong" even if it was an honest mistake on their part, and just flat out trolling by people who don't care either way and are doing it for the lulz. I fully expect to see a tweet by HG where they fixed their servers or whatever, followed by gloating by people saying that HG wrote netcode just because of them.

What HG did was as well as creating a procedurally generated game they also with the hype created a massive procedurally generated set of user expectations. But the two did not fit together very well in the end...

LOL 3 of those are just blogs about the tweet that happened the day before the game launched. If you want to ignore the multiple times that Sean Murray said there was multiplayer that is up to you.

Edit.
And the first one. Did you even read it? It actually said there would be multiplayer.

Murray describes the multiplayer of No Man’s Sky as having all of the online players “flying around with an open lobby,” but since the game world is so huge those players will almost never run into one another. The game is equipped to handle another player or two flying past, but there’s no need to make it capable of handling thousands or even dozens of players on screen at the same time.

I've followed NMS since I first became aware of it just after it was first shown, and at no point have I ever got the impression that the game was meaningfully multiplayer in any shape or form. For me the biggest clues being, it's described as a single-player game, and you can play it off-line.

As as aside, and feel free to call me shallow, but any game with Bill Bailey in an ad for it gets my vote immediately - c'mon, what's not to love!!

On a more serious note, it's really nice to see 65 Days of Static getting a good boost from this game, I have had their 'Heavy Sky' EP for a long time and I often play it whilst in the ED-sphere - it fits really nicely (for me at least).

I don't think there's enough information to be able to tell either way. Servers have to be aware of your location somehow, otherwise how would they be able to tell you the player-given names of the various astronomical objects and animals? They're not going to just send you a huge list of everything in the entire galaxy, it would be insane. The names you're getting into your console must be of things nearby.

I'm currently watching the twitch stream of Angry Joe ( youtube game reviewer ), and so far he thinks that planet flora and fauna are very samey, the inventory system is a pain, the flight mecanic and combat is poor, and you get lost very easily.

So far it doesn't bode well for his future review.

Edit : He just stated " state of the game is an obnoxious grind ".

You heard it here first.
