Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Meanwhile, back in the game.

Someone found a natural monument to Jar Jar Binks.

NOWHERE do I see him EXPLICITLY STATE That players could interact in a meaningful way....in fact he says he wants players to (and I'll stress these words as I believe they are the crux of the issue) "FEEL like" your playing with other players....no, to me that is an explicit statement that ACTUALLY playing with another player was NEVER in the game.....jebus H on a donkey can people get some common sense on this subject.

Haven't really posted in here before, been following NMS devlopments for about a year tho' and I do think Sean has been, if not overtly dishonest, then at least somewhat cagey and evasive about the multiplayer issue. He's always said stuff like the above or else has avoided the question by falling back on the size of the NMS galaxy and how incredibly unbelievably unlikely it is that two players would ever be able to meet (although in practice it took just 10hrs - which is another matter). If someone had said - "yes but, if, just if, two players had got to the same place, and one of them flew past the other and did a barrel roll, would the other player see that ship and see the same manoeuvre?" - I'd have liked to have seen Sean hold his hands up and say no. The answer is that simple, either that level of multiplayer interaction is coded into the game or it isn't. There's no ambiguity. That would have been the honest thing to do. I can understand why he hasn't been that explicit, it's a marketing issue. A flat out statement to that effect would have affected pre-sales, even if it didn't really go against the basic claims about what sort of game it was. Nevertheless, the way he avoided that answer has left some people feeling cheated and I can understand that too.

Which means people "read between the lines" and got it wrong THEMSELVES and are saying he's a liar....utter and complete stupidity IMO.

If someone replies "Yes!" to various questions relating to multiplayer features planned for the game - how can there be any reading between the lines?

I mean the sheer FACT that in Elite players fail to see each other, in a game that TRULY EXPLICITLY stated MP and MMO gameplay then I just don't understand the storm of insanity and stupidity.

Oh dear, I'm going to get sucked into this despite myself (damn you internet), but let's just put that argument to bed shall we.

Truly explicit proof of Elite Dangerous multiplayer interaction incoming (hardly necessary I know but nevertheless) ...

Yes I know, rolling this video out again. What can I tell you. I like it alright! :)
Yes it's buggy (no pun intended), but ED is undeniably MP.

And as for MMO gameplay, well I don't know exactly how massive the Massive has to be but I think Distant Worlds probably vindicated that claim.

You missed my point, I was stating that a game (Elite) that was explcity stated as being MP and MMO based can have players NOT see each other, thus a game that never explictly stated the aforemnetioned ever happening has 2 players not seeing each other and the Devs are lieing scumbags?....

That was my point, not specifically ragging on Elite, just in comparison to the empty headed storm over NMSs issues.

The collective crapping on this game is out of control and probably by people who haven't played the darn game yet. God damn it. They running around like headless chickens by the looks of it. Then we have salty media promoting exploits. Geeez!

Because he never said WHAT you can do.....my god I'm really getting a sense IQs are dropping at an exponential rate here!! It is SO reading between the lines that I'm already seeing the Simpsons esque dictionary page:

"reading between the lines"

See mp complaints about NMS.

Wow, so mad such anger.

Q. Can you see players you meet up with?
A. Yes!
Q. Can you communicate with players you meet up with?
A. Yes!
etc

These are multiplayer features, just because he didn't say there will be co-op missions or player to player trading doesn't mean that people were reading too much into it. You're just trying to ignore the obvious by claiming there's other stuff that he didn't address. A proper strawman argument if there ever was one.

People talk about hype, well you should never believe trailers.

None of that creature interaction happens in game, nor have I seen that kind of diversity or number of animals on a single planet.
Awesome example. A trailer rendered on a PC using hand-crafted assets and pre-scripted events. This isn't the console game they sold.

I think it boils down to: Procedural generation is mostly boring if it's there to save costs.

As this is the ED forums it's natural to compare the two, but the faults of ED should not be excuses for NMS.
I've seen trailers for ED, too...

Has anyone thought that the "meeting" and "cooperating" could be like this:

A player finds a room with a floor switch, he stands on it and a lift comes down, he steps off and the lift goes back up....he CAN'T go up the lift so leaves.

later...another player enters the same room and SEES a "ghost/apparition" of the other player stepping in the switch, but the lift DOES come down, second player steps on lift and goes up to get the goodies.

entirely plausible from what Sean has said IMO.

I just cannot understand why, when he has never explicitly stated player INTERACTIONS, that people are so up in arms.

yeah because I don't deal well with stupidity,

Firstly, do you KNOW if that was a glitch that stopped those 2 people meeting? If you don't KNOW that one way or the other then it proves NOTHING.

secondly same glitch could        that up, then again does he state the comunication is IN GAME or via external tools (like what the two who tried to meet up did).

Also that seemed to be from a quick fire yes/no answers interview where he couldn't elaborate whatsoever, hence being vague was guarenteed, hence people READING BETWEEN THE SMEGGING LINES.

These are my last words on the matter as I'm putting you and fuzzy on ignore, bye bye.
